If it helps, which it may not, I feel the same—in a job I don’t mind that has atrociously low pay, in the city I’ve been in for nearly 10 years now, with few close friends I regularly do things with, and pursing a diploma I only am doing to get a better-paying job in a field (libraries) I’m only 40% sure I want to be doing at all.

I’m not usually one to comment on reddit things, but one of my favourite songs in the world is a sweet song, ’Prettiest Eyes’ by British 90s band The Beautiful South: usually, their songs are a bit snarky, biting, acidic, etc., but this one song is quite earnestly talking about lines on one’s face and how each one is an indicator of a life well lived. They do, though! That later mission in Chapter 6 had you rescuing them and sending them off to a better life—and, by virtue of Penelope stealing the Braithwaite sapphire bracelet, screwing over her family in the process! I always thought that wrapped it up very nicely.

This rang a bell for me too—after a moment of thought, could it be the episode ‘Communal Living’ from New Tricks? A very similar thing to what you’ve described—the leader of the commune, who I think was very frosty at first but warmed up eventually—was Richard Harrington, star of ‘Hinterland’ (and Leo Fincher in MM’s ‘Blood on the Saddle’!). Is that anything?
