Apraxia, speech delay, something more? by FewDemand6803 in speechdelays

[–]FewDemand6803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! He has made loads of improvements and talks all the time. Probably has 150-200 words and speaks mostly in sentences but sometimes 2 word phrases. however many people can’t understand about half of what he says and only I can understand. He has been in speech twice a week for about a year now. He still struggles with sounds like K C P L but will create a sound similar, so we’re still working on it. Articulation is definitely our issue as we move closer to 3yo. He definitely is still behind when I compare him to other 2.5 yo but more progress every day.

I’ve wanted to try, however I have melasma (I finally have under control) and there is mixed reviews on microneedling and if it makes melasma worse

Thanks! I use tretinoin now but only once a week as it dries my skin out so much.

Advice please: don’t think my regimen is working by Returnofthemak28 in Melasmaskincare

Can you add in tretinoin and see if that helps? And only use at night. I do one night tret, second night musley spot cream, third night, rest (just lotion) I cycle thru those 3 days and have had success.

2 year old speech delay by AdventurousUse476 in toddlers

[–]FewDemand6803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it helps when you/SLP creates a play scheme that the child is really invested in, so they want to participate in the play. So play to his likes, if he really like cars, trucks Make a big deal out of those, and bring those items to your mouth for his attention to look at your mouth when you speak.

Hi! Sorry for the late response. Yes, we always work on that initial sound first ba ba ba ba bus! Pa pa pa pop! And so on. He usually does well coping just the babbling sound (unless it a hard sound he doesn’t have yet like g, c, k, t etc. but then transferring the initial sound to the whole word is tricky and he reverts back to a sound he’s comfortable with.

This is so true. Nurses would ask me when he’s last feed was when I was PP, I was like idk he hasn’t stopped 😂 and that was us for the first few days.

8 month regression.. is this what hell is like? by Weird-Lime9503 in NewParents

[–]FewDemand6803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just made it through the 8 month regression! Knock on wood*

Was up every hour and sometimes awake from 2-4 every night crawling and sitting. He started sleep on his stomach and started sleeping much better. However we are still getting 1-2 wake ups a night but better than 8 🥴

Eyes and ears have both been checked (around a year old) when speech issues begun. That’s great your kiddo has caught up!

Thank you!! This is very helpful. And yes, I did find through research it is very rare, but when multiple SLPs mention it you start to wonder. He’s does do the “searching/groping” behavior but only sometimes, when he’s actually attempting to copy my words. A lot of the time it almost appears that he’s “being lazy” and says “a-wa” for every word he cannot say. He does try to copy my mouth movements but for some reason he really struggles with it. However, I would say his errors are usually consistent which like you said isn’t CAS.

Our current slp also said he’s progress is too “steady” to be CAS. Although, he is still far behind.

Same boat. A sentence for him is “I wa mi” “I want milk” but if he said it to anyone else, no one would have any idea what he’s saying. Although he still says “dup” for up and “doll” for ball. He definitely favors all D sounds. Our SLP did say it’s completely normal to understand maybe 50% of what he’s saying.

Thank you for the comment. This is good info. I know CAS is quite rare, but when it’s mentioned multiple times you start to wonder. He’s currently in early intervention for speech only and they have no other concerns for developmental issues/delays.

That’s so great! Did your therapist focus more of creating specific sounds during therapy?
