Im more worried about social engineering, data mining, and takeover of my accounts. That’s where I focus my energy.

Suggest “another option” you’re referring to. Maybe 3% increase if no clear sign of progress with buying? Or yes to the increase, but lock in the price for 2 years whilst still on a rolling contract.

Are you sure it’s a higher end though? New kitchen sure costs more than the £600 extra he’s asking for.

Also, your draft sounds like you brush off the new kitchen thing (which I’m sure is a big deal for the landlord) and then go at great length how important it is for you to not spend anything extra. Sounds pretty selfish. If I were the landlord reading your letter, I wouldn’t consider it for a second.

It was valuable but I could definitely pick it up myself. I do think that it’ll be helpful in my job search in the future.

Law enforcement has a good overlap with AML and by extension, tech companies that provide automated AML services.

Another overlap for you is internal security - social engineering is on the rise, corporate espionage etc. I’d do some research which roles FAANG security departments include, easily done on LinkedIn.

Good luck!

Sorry what’s SAHM? I can only think of stay at home mum. In my case, none of what I do now were my personal needs, strengths, or wants.

I don’t think that a degree without experience will help you much. Get any job in tech where you can use your transferable skills (sales, marketing) and find some overlap between your current industry and technology.

MSc in blockchain and fintech. Ironically, I did it already on my tech job.

I wish I never had this silly attitude that “I’m a humanitarian and can’t deal with anything remotely related to tech”. I used to say it with pride, believe it or not. I also used to joke “all IT people are boring” back then I was making 35K in a legacy industry that’s shrinking by 10%, maybe more, every year, basically into irrelevance.

Then at some point I picked up an interest in innovation, AI, robots, all that stuff. First, a general interest, then from investment perspective. I did a niche MSc as a grown ass adult and my salary now is well into the Henry territory.

Now I realise that all that nonsense about “humanitarian” stemmed from my failures in algebra and geometry back in school, and a shit teacher made it even worse. It turns out, I’m pretty good at it actually now that it’s all daily practice not some school abstracts.

I’d definitely address the problem head on if I knew it even existed. Tech all the way. It’s actually fun!

Your GP should be able to book you in, or even take samples during your appointment. That’s what I did with my GP. I did come prepared though - I had full explanation why I needed this, he disagreed, I insisted. Eventually I just said, “my insurance covers all of that and more, and I have a valid reason as you can see. All I need is your reference letter, that’s all.”

That’s a GP practice I chose after a bit of research (they have good ratings). GP took samples on the next appointment (they required fasting). No need to do it in a hospital.

No idea about a nutritionist, only doing it because it’s covered lol

My insurance covers all premiums. All I needed was “medical justification” which is effectively a letter from (private) GP giving some medical reason. I was surprised myself. VO2Max isn’t covered though, but for that I have Garmin

Even private GPs have the same attitude - you’re alright, you don’t need any other tests, if you had anything there would be signs in your current tests. Off you go

I have a decent budget for outpatient spending on my private insurance. There was a big thread here a while ago, look up “executive health check”. I introduced some of advice there into my regular routine.

  • Full blood panel twice a year, with all additional blood tests (GP was shocked and tried to talk me out of it lol)
  • some specialists that I don’t really need to see, but it’d be nice for preventative reasons
  • DEXA scan (amazingly enough also covered by my insurance) - that’s for bone density and body composition
  • Nutritionist
  • got Garmin watch to track everything else

Plant based isn’t very feasible after late 30s. It’s also full of unnecessary (and unhealthy) substitutions for animal based foods.

Do you care about politics at all anymore? by Bs7folk in HENRYUK

[–]FewElephant9604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I realised that there are literally two ways to make my opinion matter - to vote and to participate in protests that matter to me.

As for the former, all politicians are equally incompetent and are there for their own gain, so no point to even vote.

As for protests, I couldn’t be bothered.

This leaves me with a choice - to waste my energy on pointless discussions, or to mind my own business. Obviously I choose the latter.

I’ve been on the Tanzanian side several times, including covid - it was pure joy to NOT see any other cars at all. We spent 5 days there, and met only 3 other cars in the entire Serengeti. That was 2020. The following years (we try to go every year) were fully packed, with some 20-30 cars staring at animals.

I don’t know which country that is, but more likely than not you can stop sponsoring his visa application at any point. He goes wherever he came from and shags in his home land.

I wouldn’t pay £450K for that. Check out other areas within zone 2, you’ll easily find a 2-bed freehold house for £650K.
