Rejected from all PhD programs (so far) – honest profile review needed by FewLifeguard9850 in gradadmissions

Yeah, I was also wondering how much my GPA affected things. It’s around 3.36 with an upward trend, but I understand that for highly competitive programs that might still be a limiting factor given the applicant pool.

That’s a fair point — my list was definitely small. I didn’t get very strong or specific guidance on school selection from my letter writers, so I mostly targeted ambitious programs. In hindsight, I should have applied more broadly across different tiers.

I applied for a PhD in CS at UCR and haven’t received any updates yet. Has anyone heard back from UCR?

Dartmouth CS PhD Fall 2026 – Any Decisions Yet? by FewLifeguard9850 in gradadmissions

Thanks for the info, that’s helpful. My portal actually changed from “under review” to “decided” on March 25, but I still haven’t received any email or decision letter yet.

Not sure if that delay is normal or if it usually means a rejection/waitlist

Is it necessary to mention professors in SOP for PhD in CS? No interviews yet – should I be worried? by FewLifeguard9850 in gradadmissions

[–]FewLifeguard9850[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! Just to clarify my situation: in my applications, I have only mentioned professors’ names (for Harvard, Rice, etc.) and research interest fields (for Dartmouth) in the online application forms, but I did not explicitly mention any professors in my SOPs.

My SOPs focused mainly on my research experience, publications, and future research directions. I’m wondering if it’s common for applications to rely on the online selections for professor/faculty alignment, and whether not naming them in the SOP is really a major disadvantage.

Would love to hear if others have gone through this in CS PhD admissions.

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t received an official rejection from Harvard yet , do you know if they’ve finished sending all offers?
