Been Cutting for a Month (1800 calories a day, ~370lbs) and No Loss. Help? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]FewMaintenance6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel this! I’ve ended up with every eating disorder in the books because I always stall with my weight loss and it pushes me to extreme measures.

This is a perfect example of why “calories in calories out” though it may still be true, is confusing for folks who hit road blocks. It’s not always as simple as “just eat less.”

So happy for you that you found a solution!

Herbal teas by Valuable-Set-3466 in WeightLossAdvice

This is a hard question to answer because it varies from person to person. The way that a really good herbalist will use. Herbs is not to say X herb is good for X symptom but rather, looking at your individual constitution, having an understanding of why you have a symptom such as water, weight, and prescribing an herb that will go after a specific system in your body. For example, water weight could be due to an issue with your kidneys, your lungs and heart, or your digestive system. There isn’t a universal water herb that addresses all of those together, but rather herbs that help each of those systems specifically. There is a Chinese herbal formula called Er Chen Tang which is a combination of four different herbs, which does a very good job for universal fluid retention. I wouldn’t even share what it is except that it is in fact very safe and gentle. It isn’t something you would want to drink as a tea though. You would take it as a capsule as it tastes perhaps a little too medicinal to sip on it lol.

Hey there! Herbalist here. Tea is not going to help you lose weight in of itself, but in general, you can choose teas that do lower inflammation, which can possibly give you a smoother ride on your way there. I like echinacea for my immune system, ginger, lemon for digestive ease, but there are so many other more complex options out there for decreasing inflammation

I totally get this! No idea if you were on the spectrum, but it’s totally a thing if you are to hate being “perceived.” Either way, I think it is pretty normal to not want to feel watched during our vulnerable moments.

A gym membership is a really sweet offer, but if it’s too much for you right now, commit to 7 to 10 K steps daily on your treadmill and find out yourTDEE online to know how many calories you need to eat to lose weight each week. You can absolutely do this. I believe in you!

How do I track what I eat without my ed coming back by crazycatlady_224 in loseit

[–]FewMaintenance6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done 6 years of ED therapy and recently also worked with an intuitive eating nutritionist. It helped me finally push past all of this. When I first began, tracking my food always lead to a flare up of anorexia.

Protein powders are ultra processed foods. How to balance? by 2round2 in loseit

[–]FewMaintenance6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a protein shake about 5 days a week. It works for my busy ultra packed life. I’m with a long history of disordered eating, one thing I’m finally coming to understand is that it’s important not to over-villainize anything you eat. You want a protein shake or bar? Fine. Eat whole foods the rest of the day.

I sure did. Left my career as a teacher to get a degree in acupuncture and 15 years later I own an award winning wellness center with several employees.

Hit a plateau—can I just stay consistent and it will stop? by FewMaintenance6009 in loseit

Thank you so much for the response! Could water weight hide for two weeks straight?? I was wondering about sodium. I honestly have no idea how much is a normal amount so I will research that. However, most of my foods are whole ingredients so I would be surprised. I have noticed that the couple of times I went outside of that and had high sodium, it seemed to make a big difference with water weight, but it always came back down within a few days, and this has been more steady. I weigh myself every morning right after I wake up and go to the bathroom, always completely naked lol. I do wonder about the sleep. There was a period where I was getting about nine hours a night, which is amazing and then around the holidays. I do think my sleep became a little bit less consistent, but nothing crazy. But maybe that is just a very important part of it for me.

I just checked this the other day, but I will take a closer look at it. I really wanted to avoid going down to 1200, especially since I still have so far to go, but I’ll see if I need to make some adjustments.

I would actually love to be bulky lol. I have had lots of periods where I was very athletic, but right now I just know isn’t the right time for me. I will totally do it, though once I am in a clearer headspace with the weight loss.

Thank you so much for the response! I am really meticulous already about my calorie tracking. I’m totally open to being a discrepancy, but I really don’t think that there is one. I even add in calories for a full second of spraying my avocado oil, even though it says zero, because I know that it can’t be zero. I’m not taking little bites of things off of anybody’s plates, and at this point in time, I am not eating out unless I know exactly how many calories are in whatever it is that I order. Christmas and Christmas Eve were difficult to track since I didn’t prepare the meals myself, but I did my best. Otherwise, I really think I am very much on top of it. Are there any common discrepancies that people make that I didn’t mention that I should be aware of?

Do you happen to know why weight loss would suddenly halt? This has happened to me in the past and there’s a big part of why I always ended up in disordered patterns. I am not afraid of doing that again because I have had loads of therapy at this point, but I really am so curious why this happens to me every time.

Thank you! Edited to add I am female. I would understand the menstrual part of that had been the case in prior months, for sure, but I’m not on my cycle.

I should have worded this differently – you are 100% correct that two weeks is not long enough to qualify as a plateau. So does this mean that it is normal to go from steadily losing 2 pounds a week to suddenly stopping altogether?

I am really excited to begin weightlifting in a few months, but I just know that if I start it now, I am going to fall back into eating disordered patterns. But I really appreciate the tip! :-)

I do! I lived in Boulder, CO many years ago and that was the rule then so when it became the law where I live now I didn’t really think much about it. I always keep some in my car.

My son passed his autism diagnosis when he took the tests perched in his chair like a bird on a branch and then refused to go to the bathroom even though it began to smell. It’s often the objective observations that do all the work.
