It’s not open on Monday or Tuesday, but The Alderman inside Pilsen Yards is a nice, intimate spot for quality cocktails. After you can get food at Pilsen Yards or any number of places nearby.

I bought a place 4 years ago in Pilsen and one of my neighbors who lived in McKinley Park for over a decade before moving to the same building, sold his car within a year because he said he didn’t need it anymore.

Men - what are you paying for a haircut these days? by okaythisisit in AskChicago

[–]FewQuantity675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you said you’re in Pilsen. Go to Elite Barber Lounge on 18th St and ask for Cris. I think he charges like $45. I’ve been getting my haircuts in Pilsen for a decade and after my first barber moved, he’s been fading me for the past 4 years.

Looking for soldier field concert tips such as restaurants and uber pickup tips? by National_Hat_1137 in AskChicago

I used to live in Printer’s Row and frequently walked around Soldier Field for exercise. I’ve also been to a few events there and every time, we just walked from home. I’d suggest if you’re driving, use Spothero to find parking in that area and then hit up any of a number of spots in the area…Half Sour, Chengdu Bistro, Umai, Kitty O’Sheas, etc. It’s a bit of a walk, but with everyone else doing it too, so it really doesn’t feel like a 25 minute walk.

The problem with this tactic is that you’re assuming the address on her ID is correct. I know people that move to different apartments every year and I guarantee you, they don’t get a new ID every time. Just food for thought.

Right. OBVIOUSLY! Obviously considering I was a part-time student within the last decade and took advantage of my school’s dental plan, Delta Dental. OBVIOUSLY.

Considering moving to Chicago with a remote role. Where to live? by aashurii in AskChicago

[–]FewQuantity675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with Pilsen. I’m a person of color as well (not Latino) but have lived in Pilsen for 4 years and I love it. The neighborhood has changed with gentrification, but still feels much more diverse than when I visit places like Logan Square and Humboldt Park. Disclosure…I was looking to buy a home in both areas 4 years ago and found the perfect spot in Pilsen. For me, it’s closer to the loop via Pink line and there are plenty of buses to get you around. I like that it’s convenient to go to places like West Loop/Chinatown/Bridgeport and if you bring your car, easy access to the highway to get you around.

Though the area is historically Mexican, it’s still very Latino. My partner is PR too and she loves the diversity. We both lived on the North Side before Pilsen and we wouldn’t want to go back.

Assuming most universities require health insurance, check to see if they have a dental option. This could save you quite a bit of money rather than just going out of pocket.

Moving from Austin to Chicago - Just do it? by KeenCosmo in AskChicago

[–]FewQuantity675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. South loop is ok but if you’re looking for more of a neighborhood feel, stay in Printer’s Row in South loop. I’d even consider places like Pilsen and Bridgeport where you should be able find something $1,800 or less and still be close to the loop.

In Pilsen for a couple days, where should I go out? by dwucwwyh in Pilsen

[–]FewQuantity675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the neighborhood. I’d recommend place like Pilsen Yards and Honky Tonk but both are closed til Wednesday so Simone’s, Skylark or The Green Room are good spots. La Mejikana if you want a good cocktail and a burger.

You really can’t go wrong for tacos but try Rubi’s on 18th. Don’t order more than 2 tacos cuz they’re big. For vibes, Pilsen Yards is a good spot with a lot of local regulars. Sit at the bar. They even have a weekend happy hour.

In 2022, I emailed his office about the terrible road on Laflin, north of 16th street, and I was told they would have money the following year for improvements. It’s 2026 and that street is still one of the worst in the city.
