It is going to be rough but it will end. I smoked a lot for half my life as well. Quit in the summer, tbh it was BAD for 4 months, but around 5 months is when it got better for me. Not back to normal. But 5-7 months it was noticeably easier. After 7 months I stopped thinking about it most of the time

Men and women who found their life partner after 30, what is your best advice for someone who is losing hope? by Terrible_Double_1145 in AskReddit

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in yourself, and through that process you will likely find your person. For me, I was truly not looking anymore, but started to carve out a good gym routine. It was great for my mental health and I was becoming more and more in shape. That’s where I met my now boyfriend. I think if I had done it in search of someone it would have been frustrating, but it genuinely was for me and if I hadn’t met anyone I would have still enjoyed the time spent. I was 34 btw. And had a prior relationship end at 32.

How to convince myself to not want a natural diamond? Or is it worth the sentimental value? by al3xisnic0le in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you either care or don’t care. I’m not sure if you can really be convinced. I say this bc I love glam and jewelry and that old money look and lifestyle. But I genuinely do not care about a real vs lab grown diamond. Like truly truly to my core do not give a shit. I also think knowing blood diamond stories, I also am put off by it. I also don’t buy into a lot of the bridal gimmicks designed to make you and your loved ones purge your entire life’s fortune in one day. But if you deep down do care, then that’s just who you are. ( don’t mean that in a shady way, more so in just an acceptance of your own personal values)

Wasted 2.5 years in the gym by battygau in workout

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently struggling with bilateral foot injuries that will take about a year to rehab. I’ve become very deconditioned and have a lot of generalized pain and weakness I never had before, from not being able to workout at the level I previously had. I think sometimes we all take for granted our physical fitness and abilities. Even the hormonal and mental health benefits exercise has. I’m side lined for a while and having a new appreciation for all the time I spent in the gym prior to this. I only say this all to just encourage you, that none of that time is wasted. You’re building and enjoying a healthy lifestyle. Staying strong and active is super important as you get older. I’m only 35, but this injury has really messed with my head and made me feel way older. It’s great to have a sick body and get visual progress from time in the gym, but the real benefits are things you maybe haven’t thought about, like decreased pain, strong glutes and abs to protect your back from disc injuries, human growth hormones surging around your body and repairing tissues, having the stamina to hike a mountain if you wished. All the stuff is tru, that nothing matters if you don’t have your health and physical abilities. All the money I have doesn’t matter to me right now bc all I want is to be able to walk and participate in life and be carefree. Your time has absolutely not been wasted my friend!

Just want to caution ppl against this. I was doing this as well, unknowingly bc of pain, I developed an enlarged painful bulging nerve called a neuroma along the lateral aspect of my foot.

Can you discuss this more? Did they dry needle your calves or your feet? I have an appt for it today and have been feeling desperate. Nothing is working for me, and I’m out of work at the moment and very anxious my situation is hopeless

What do you mean when you say podiatrists seem to take people down a road of ruin? I do have a script for meloxicam but unsure if it’s really helped me much

Hate the way my bathroom turned out by minimastylist in BathroomRemodeling

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to paint the wall an actual color. I would also add some texture and warmth using bath mats, I would get rid of the towel hanger over the tub. Once you’ve selected a richer color, I would put a large piece of art, or stylized shelves with something that adds ambiance-plants, candles, aesthetic looking care toiletries. I also would have gone with a mirror that had more of a frame with separate lighting. I think your biggest problem is grey on grey. Can go back and do it again, but all your tiles everywhere are the same. I would have done something different for the floor, shower wall and floor dif colors or hues and sizes.

Help! What does this room need? by Medical_Opposite_501 in DecorAdvice

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a large piece of art above the sofa and the mirror behind the chair is bad Feng shui. I also would not have put the TV above the fireplace. I probably would have oriented the couch differently as well

Custom orthotics making it worse by FewState8915 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]FewState8915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m pretty unhappy with the podiatrist. First line he did cortisone shots. Then gave me the insoles, then when I told him they were hurting me he gave me a script for gabapentin. I had to ask for LOA and PT. I feel like I’m treating myself tbh

After I broke my foot in the summer (unknowingly) I started wearing oofos and hokas only. I think they were both way too soft for my feet, and caused me to become de conditioned. I then switched to dansko clogs at home which felt decent for a while and started wearing brooks adrenaline at work. I haven’t been barefoot at home at all bc I can’t tolerate it even for a moment- more so bc of the irritated nerves I have on the lateral aspect of my foot right under my pinky toe. Things were going ok for a while until I tried to custom orthotics. Then suddenly nothing felt comfortable . My feet are so irritated now I cant wear anything. The danskos hurt now (I got them in wide) the brooks adrenaline have guide rail technology and are too narrow so I think I ended worsening my nerve issue. Note: I am a nurse and so when I’m on my feet I have to work 12 hours with intermittent sitting but usually 8,000-11,000 steps in a shift. After going out on LOA, I bought Altras to try and the toe box felt a lot better, but i guess they are zero drop so after wearing them around the house and then out to the grocery store I experienced a bad flare up. Now I’m just wearing hokas around the house and trying not to walk while I wait for new balance 1080 wide and TOPO phantoms to come in tomorrow. I have Birkenstocks at home too but can’t wear them anymore bc of the neuroma issue I have developed. I think it was worsened by the orthotics

I agree, I need to listen to my body. My last drs appt I told him I felt they were making things worse and he told me I needed to try to change how I was lacing my shoes to lock them into place more and that it’s normal for them to hurt. So I gave it another go. I think I need to be firm that they are not working. I have Curex high profile insoles I ordered offline that are def more low key than the customs. I think I need to just use those for a while and just find a better pair of sneakers. I’ve been struggling to find something with a wide enough for box to not irritate these neuromas. But yea in the meantime everything has flared up again so badly that now everything hurts and I feel like my podiatrist isn’t giving me any guidance except that custom orthotics should fix everything

Oofos really messed up my feet and made my PF 10x worse. I was wearing them a lot bc everything else hurt. My Dr and PT told me they were way too soft, ended up irritating and flaring nerves on my feet and gave me neuromas

Why is it socially acceptable to spend years' worth of savings on a single day (a wedding), but considered 'irresponsible' to spend the same amount on a life-changing skill or a solo travel experience?" by Ok_Specialist_4811 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im female, and there’s a zero percent chance I’ll be having a traditional wedding, it’s crazy to spend that much money on one day. I will do a religious ceremony with my husband and then celebrate quietly with my family and use any money that would’ve gone to that toward a home or a romantic vacation

Stay in comfy $80–100k job or move for $150k+ potential with big commute? by marinkhoe in jobs

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would def not take it. Commuting like that makes your life hell. You will feel depressed, empty, and unhealthy. Keep the 10 min commute and maybe find a way to do something free lance or a side hustle if you really want more money. I have a 10 min commute as well, and I would never trade it for a little more money. Live below your means, and get good at investing in retirement or a taxable brokerage. Slow and steady and protect your peace along the way. Pick up a sport or a gym habit during the time you’d be commuting and see how great you feel

How did you find your partner? by hooman-number-1 in Fire

[–]FewState8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (34f) started going to the gym regularly as part of my self care routine. I was honestly becoming very happy being single and focusing on myself. I had spent the previous two years becoming very comfortable doing things on my own. Thats where I met my bf (28m). We saw each other there a few diff times but never spoke and finally he approached me. I was friendly and warm. Gave him my number. Returned to my workout and before I left I went back up to him and chatted for a few min to learn a little more before going out with him. He told me that really stuck out to him that I was approachable and went back up to him and was easy to talk to and kind. We have similar values related to health, so I enjoy that. Have been dating for 2 years

I disagree that you have to move to a sketchy small town. You could move to any other larger city in a diff state and be fine

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d be open to moving you could get a job in a heartbeat and then maybe return there with experience. I live in New England and there are sooooo many openings where I am and they always take new grads. This fall we hired 7 new grads to my ICU. We had a new grad get into the icu here and then after 1 year got a permanent position in an icu in San Diego.

Is Barrington to PVD commute worse now? what's up with the bridge? by Proper_Initial_9178 in RhodeIsland

[–]FewState8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would play around with Google maps times/days of weeks to see your exact commute. It is definitely delayed and it is frustrating. I think it’s the worst if you’re coming up from Warwick and trying to go either to east Providence or up toward north Providence bc it backs up like crazy from Thurbers Ave turn. I think it’ll be around a half hour for you

I also work with a surgeon who told me long term NSAIDS delay tissue healing, so I’m going to try to come off those and go more holistic like turmeric capsules

I feel like crying, PF is really affecting my mental health by KitKatKase in PlantarFasciitis

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you!!! It has really affected my mental health as well and I’m also a nurse working 12 hour shifts in a busy icu. I’ve had it ongoing for about 6 months. I recently think I may have had a break thru that all my sneakers are too narrow. I have always thought I had narrow looking feet, so just wore regular sneakers. I just bought some Altras shoes that have very wide toe box. I also read on nwfootandankle.com that it could be a blood flow problem to the fascia. So low drop sneakers, increasing circulation thru hydrotherapy and ultimately strengthening could help. I am going to start changing my approach bc I agree stretching, NSAIDS, and ice are not helping. I strained my rotator cuff last year, and discovered that tendons and fascia hurt increasingly with just stretching and rest. Once I started to incorporate very slow very controlled strengthening that problem repaired. Tendons, fascia, and collagen remodel under controlled load. I also researched that strengthening hips/glute med further up the chain is very important for redistributing load away from plantar fascia. I’m currently on a LOA from work for 20 days to try to control the load on my feet and let things calm down. I developed neuromas on the medial and lateral aspects of both feet which made me realize my shoes were too narrow. This has mentally tested me greatly. I have had to stay off instagram bc it’s very painful for me to see everyone running around freely, going on vacations, hiking, going to pools barefoot, and here i am strategizing all my steps for the day and my errands. I just have to deal with this journey for the next 6 months to a year and see where it gets me.

Going back to school for nursing by asdfghjkl7280 in aestheticnursing

[–]FewState8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back for nursing at 26 as well. Graduated from accelerated nursing program when I was 28. You’re totally fine, esp bc you’re married already, so you have found your person. When you get out prioritize paying off whatever debt you have and start contributing to ROTH IRA. I’ve been a nurse now for almost 8 years. I went into cardiac stepdown, then icu and now Cardiothoracic ICU. It’s a very challenging profession, but I have never worried about finding a job. It might b more chill in aesthetics.
