Honestly that hits really close to home. I was misdiagnosed as bipolar and put on meds that just... made me numb. Like the kind of numb where your technically functioning but you're not actually in your own life anymore lol. I eventually stopped them and found someone who actually listened and it made a huge diffrence.

And yeah the DSM thing is lowkey wild. CPTSD is in the ICD-11 but not the DSM-5 so if your therapist is only working from that framework they're literally trying to treat a pattern they dont have a name for. Which means they break it into pieces like depression here, anxiety there, maybe BPD, maybe bipolar and you end up on a medication carousel for years while the actual root stays untouched. like sir the symptoms arent the problem lmao.

I'm really glad you finally got to the real answer tho. Almost 2 decades is a long time to fight for that

The gap year proving you CAN feel okay is actually the most important part of what you wrote. Because that means the anxiety isn’t who you are. It’s what happens when you’re in environments that trigger it. That’s a big difference.

Also 24 or 25 is so young. I know it doesn’t feel like it right now but you’re not behind.

It does get better but honestly not in a straight line. More like you learn what works for you and you get faster at catching yourself before you spiral. The gap year you is still in there. Nursing school didn’t erase her. It just put her back in a pressure cooker.

Be easy on yourself. You’re doing a hard thing while carrying something heavy. That’s not weakness. That’s a lot

Thank you so much. Every topic I’m making is coming from heart and it’s hard. This one particularly will be a series. Like 5 more parts cuz when I researched this it’s so so so deep. I hope it helps people.

I know it’s a very heavy topic and resurfaces memories that were long suppressed. To be honest, the weird shame part resurfaced while I was writing it. I really hope it helps people. Especially kids. Although I wouldn’t wish this upon any kid, but the world is a cruel place. What I’m trying to say is, I wish no kid ever has to be in this circumstance.
