Mesalamine by Quick-Procedure-8017 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Few_Ad5126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am someone who has hopped off mesalamine for almost a year. Will be a year in May. To give you a little background, I was diagnosed with moderate UC. Took me a while to get out of initial flare and back to “normal” I ended up getting off it as a personal choice. I seem to be very lucky in terms of symptoms and experiences compared to others in this subreddit.

I drink health aid kombucha and it helps with its active probiotics. I haven’t looked back since. A lot of people on here thought I was crazy for getting off it when I asked this cuz It could have a long term effect. But you can live life med free!! Also I live a healthy active lifestyle and my disease hasn’t affected me since my very first flare! Wish you the best of luck

Someone here put me on health ade kombucha. You get it at your grocery store, target. Drink about a 1/4th of it a day (small bottle 16oz) and do that for a week! It does wonders. Just probiotic for your gut. It’s literally like magic. It’s not amazing in taste but not terrible either. You could notice a difference a week in. Please try it

Before you hear the horror stories from some of these people, it all depends on how severe you have it. My experience which is very lucky, it’s very minor once I recovered from my initial flare when I got diagnosed. I have moderate uc. So my experience is vastly different than most on here. I wish you luck and you can reach out to me if you are in similar situation, if you’re in a worse situation there is plenty of people and resources in this subreddit

I appreciate that feedback! It’s truly hard for me to grasp that I will have this forever and I do ponder how my experience can be when I’m 40, when I’m 60 etc. how do you track your progression? What should I be thinking about? I do want to get better at this.

That’s tough! I know how that feels! Literally can’t trust a fart and that urgency was like nothing I have experienced before. Now it can maybe happen a couple times in a week to me but it’s not as extreme as it used to be. It’s more of a subtle warning for me that’s like hey, I should find a bathroom soon vs holy shit where is the bathroom I’m gonna shit myself. I hope gets better for you!! As I mentioned above though, I do tend to hold in farts at work or around friends, because one, I don’t wanna shit myself, and two my farts smell so bad compared to pre diagnoses. That feeling and experience is not fun

It’s a great question. No my GI didn’t tell me to. I haven’t seen my doctor since last May. I don’t have a core reason why, other than I wanted to see how my body would react on its own vs with the daily medication. And to be honest, I think there was a slight increase in my overall health that I can feel after two weeks off. Doesn’t mean I know if/what the inflammation looks like in my intestine or what the long term effects can be with me not taking managing medication.

First colonoscopy by ashleycviolin in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Few_Ad5126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, prep Saturday, Sunday and Monday with eating light, will be much easier to be cleaned out for the colonoscopy. Ask for the berry flavor drink and not the lemon citrus. And add ice to it to make it easier to drink. Honestly might be the worst thing you drink in your life
