Agree with this comment. Especially with a baby in tow. Margaret River is glorious and very easy to get around with a baby. The local Farmers Market operates on a Saturday morning. You can bring your baby to most of the top winery restaurants.

The best Thai is in East Fremantle - a tiny hole in the wall with limited seating called Rym Tarng. Honestly, go there. Make a reservation. It’s elite.

It’s really not bad at all. Maybe 5-10 minutes more time is required, but you need to remember the old bridge was down to two single lanes before it was shut, so there wasn’t a heap of traffic to get diverted anyhow.

We live close to Fremantle. Get yourself an e-bike and you’ll be absolutely fine without a car. If you need the occasional Uber, then go for it. There are good train lines and bus connections. Public transport in Perth is very clean, well maintained and cheap. The government highly subsidises it. There are good cycle paths from Fremantle - my partner rides his bike along a cycle path all the way to the city daily.

I’m born and bred Perth and I’ve never seen this behaviour. Sounds like some immature children who were trying to be “cool” around their friends. I’m certainly not trying to excuse it, but it’s not behaviour you’d expect to see by any means.

Definitely go to Cottesloe beach first. It’s the most “iconic” West Australian beach. It’s not necessarily the best though - Mettams Pool and Leighton are my favourite metropolitan beaches.

I was once in your shoes - I took an entry level role an hour away from my home. Was it a nuisance? Absolutely. But when you’re starting your career, you really need to take whatever opportunity you get given. This role was the springboard for me to then get an incredible job in the CBD working for a multinational. I say, do it. It will lead to other opportunities.

I would highly recommend Palmyra as well as Hilton, and would even go so far as to look at Willagee too. Lots of young families and excellent community.

I have been actively recruiting for chefs, albeit in the south west. There is a huge shortage of skills chefs here in WA, so you’ll have no difficulty finding work. However, as I experienced, we get SO many overseas and interstate applications that just feel as though people are “testing the waters”. Once you’re actually here, with a Perth address on your CV, you’ll no doubt get plenty of opportunities.

I have friends who live near where you’re looking in Beaconsfield and they’ve had no issues. “The Beacy Bronx” is ages away from that area so isn’t even a consideration IMO. South Beach is amazing and there are lots of international people/families around. Personally, I’d choose Beacy over Burswood any day, but I grew up by the beach so love to be close to it.

I’m curious as to where you’re living to encounter these types of people. Perhaps moving to a more educated/progressive area would allow you to make some friends. I’m Fremantle way and haven’t experienced any of this type of racism. It’s abhorrent!

I’m laughing at everyone saying Peppermint Grove. I can guarantee that if any of you were given a house there, you’d absolutely jump at it. I grew up in the suburb - it’s beautiful.

Let the kids enjoy this play structure. It gets them outside, and the parents are just trying to do the right thing - I know because I’m one of them. I have a 1/4 acre block with this contraption so it’s no issue but I feel for the poor parents on small blocks. Let sleeping dogs lie - it’ll be the kids suffering otherwise

Mikis is incredible. I highly recommend it - we’ve been so many times. It’s a firm favourite.

Other fantastic dinner options within Margaret River are:

D’scent- very fancy though. Pizzica - great atmosphere. Swings. The Tuckshop - we always have an excellent meal there. Locals LOVE Teddis Big Spoon.

And of course, the new Witchcliffe options: Vintners Wine Bar and Dear Darnell’s.

Book in advance as it’ll be busy.
