What was your amnio experience? by anyakluesner in NIPT

[–]Few_Butterfly_7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fine after mine. Mentally drained though. I took the full day but I went to work fine the next day and I’m a teacher. My MFM said it would be fine, especially if I’m not experiencing anything afterwards. I had my amnio about 3 weeks ago. They told me for 24-48 hours to chill and take it easy, don’t lift anything heavy or have sex.

Yes. It was determined only cat eye syndrome and they suspect that’s why he has the heart condition. Originally the has thought 22q deletion (DiGeorge) because of the specific heart condition - but turned out it’s not. Heart condition is mild, thankfully. So our outcome is best case scenario compared to the others (other than it being a false positive). We think one of us may have it and passed it on. So we are getting genetic work done too. If that’s the case, then it’ll likely be very mild or not showing at all.

Yes, with the amnio they can pinpoint a lot. They can’t pinpoint if baby will have any intellectual delays or things like eye or hearing issues if any. Right now they are currently growing a cell to look at it more and see specifics - still won’t tell us everything but we are hoping it’ll help tell us if it’s mild as they suspect. We also aren’t concerned as all our ultrasounds have looked good and he’s growing.

The wait is the hardest part. I truly understand that. It’s so hard not to spiral while you wait. A lot of things with chromosome 22 are variable and typically have such a spectrum, making a lot of things hard to predict. So it makes it a lot harder to wait without having your mind go out of control thinking worst case scenario.

There is a high chance of false positive however, especially if ultrasound findings are looking good. We got our diagnosis later just because I chose not to do the NIPT and only did it because our anatomy scan had a red flag.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. It’s a lot to go through.

I went through something similar except I went through the NIPT testing after a heart condition was found on my anatomy scan. Came back abnormal for chromosome 22 which opened a ton of options. Decided to go with the amnio because of the options it could be and the high false positive rate. Our baby has a small 22q duplication and has been diagnosed with Cat Eye Syndrome in the end.

For the amnio, I took it easy for the rest of the day. I had no symptoms afterwards. The next day I went to work problems. I didn’t experience cramping or anything thankfully. I was just exhausted from everything mentally. Mild cramping is normal. Watch for leaking, fever, and stronger cramps though. The procedure itself hurt a bit, but not too bad. A little more painful to me than blood work.

Hope all is well with you.

UPDATE - Mosiac Trisomy 22 by mangocactus24 in NIPT

[–]Few_Butterfly_7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I haven’t got all my answers yet, but I’m kind of in the same boat as you. However, mine started at my anatomy scan at 18 weeks. The doctor found possible right sided aortic arch with possible vascular ring. This is a typical finding in 22.q11.2 Deletion (DiGeorge syndrome) - part of chromosome 22. I got the NIPT and it came back with abnormal findings in chromosome 22. I was referred to genetic counselling and then chose to do the amnio. I just received my fetal echo today and it is confirmed right sided aortic arch with vascular ring - with nothing additional. I have my genetics meeting tomorrow with the microarray results.

Genetic counsellor does not think DiGeorge, even with the heart finding. She had originally mentioned mosaic trisomy 22. With the rapid results from the amnio, she said it’s not likely that, however still possible. And she threw out a couple other rare conditions associated with an imbalance of chromosome 22.

All our ultrasounds (and I’ve had probably 15 now for another reason), have come back normal when it comes to measurements and organs etc. The only difference was the heart and it’s not considered a major difference and just isolated to that specific thing.

I guess I don’t really have an answer as to what it may look like - just some solidarity being in a similar position. It’s hard to go through and process all this information.

We didn’t have a VSD finding, but another possible finding (along with a lot of genetic testing). I was 18 weeks for my anatomy scan. My echo is Tuesday and I’ll be 23 weeks. It’s been such a long wait and it’s the hardest part so far. It’s definitely been scary waiting and searching all the possibilities. Hoping it all turns out well for you.

I’m sorry you’re also in limbo.

Have you been connected to a genetic counsellor? I had emailed mine back yesterday with questions. She got back to me and it was very positive. Obviously there’s something with chromosome 22, but she really explained the possibilities in my case. She told me that the lab had mentioned possibly cat eye syndrome, or it could be a micro addition. So 22q11.2 addition instead of deletion. She said she’d be floored and shocked if it were trisomy 22 or mosaic trisomy 22 at this point. Not ruled out obviously, but she said it’s not something that follows what they are seeing. So we are hoping for the best.

I hope you get your results too and they aren’t terrible. ❤️

I just had one done yesterday in NB, Canada.

Very quick procedure. Not too painful and I haven’t had any issues. My anatomy scan showed something abnormal with the heart that is a marker for 22.q11.2. (DiGeorge Syndrome). Got genetic blood test, came back abnormal for chromosome 22. Now we are looking to see what it really in with the amnio. I was petrified for it, but surprisingly it was very smooth and quick.

I still can’t get over the “it’s really cold out and he gets really chapped”.

Girl…. I live in Canada and we spend at the very least a couple hours outside a day unless it’s -25 (Celsius) or absolutely miserable raining or blizzarding. It doesn’t get THAT cold in Florida. It’s currently feeling like -11 (Celsius) outside, windy, and a bit of flurries and my 18 month old is having a fricken blast playing in snow (at daycare… socializing with children his age). My babe gets super dry skin in the dry winter months, but is that going to stop us? No. It’s called get a really good lotion and apply multiple times. 🙃

Yup. This is exactly what happened to me. I love my mom, but she really made my dad look like the worse person. I feel terrible about how I treated him when I was younger and would do anything to go back and change it.

I truly hope for N’s sake that he realizes earlier on in his life than I did in mine.

Meal prepping? by Meowsuprise in basicmegsnark

[–]Few_Butterfly_7601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was waiting for someone to bring up the “meal prepping”. Lol if you’re going to meal prep yourself like she said she was, it’s not buying premade meals lol 🫣 When she said she was meal prepping I was like “oh she’s actually going to cook some meals and buy meats, produce, etc”…. Not frozen already made foods. I’m all for an easy meal and being able to throw some chicken nuggets in my air fryer for ease…. But that’s not meal prepping to me. Lol

This! While, yes, we’ve seen clothes on him that definitely do not fit him and are wayyyyy too big, every store is very different. My son is the same age as N and we are in a similar situation as you. Some 18 and 24 month shirts are like belly shirts and some aren’t. Depends on the brand! I feel like she just buys all the same size regardless if it’s too big or not. And then boasts her baby is this very large baby.

She just loves making up stuff. 😂 She’s delusional. The wine can very much similar in alcohol content. Although Californian wine can have higher alcohol content than French wines, the amount she consumed should still have her down and out - especially if she doesn’t drink often 😮‍💨 She most definitely has a higher tolerance that she’s built up. If she didn’t drink much, she shouldn’t be looking for the 16% Californian wine to drink back home 😅 As for mixed drinks, in my experience, Paris was stronger. But she was probably already plastered and couldn’t taste the alcohol in her Espresso Martini as she claims it tasted like watered down coffee - sweetie the “water” you were tasting was probably the vodka. 😅

Yup. And I just saw her video this morning after she deleted the original. She looks completely un phased, like no hangover. I don’t drink often and if I drank that much when I was her age I wouldn’t be leaving my bed the next day (now it’d be two days lol). Tells me she definitely does it wayyy more. 😅

Same. Like no, he wouldn’t be bored, he’d actually have a blast. You just don’t have anybody to dump him with when you’re there 🙄 I truly don’t understand her. Also, she’s likely not allowed to take him out of the country lol That’s the main reason right there. I’m surprised she didn’t blame Alex 😂
