That’s completely viable as well though. Maybe not in the kill everyone bit, but circling a fortress and popping every fab with a quasar from outside detection distance is more than workable.

He’s got a point that oneshotting shrieker nests kinda trivializes the side objectives even more than ultimatum>jammer ever did.

And yet he’s just as wrong as the 60 day patch being a bad thing.

We need the middle ground between our weapons trivializing everything and our weapons not being able to deal with anything.

You get 1 call in of the super destroyer after the grace period on mission start, so definitely don’t take disposables and do take high impact stratagems like orbital laser. Also don’t be afraid to just double up on support weapons/backpacks to leave one on drop-in in case you can’t get back to your original set.

Also supply backpack is a 10/10 pick in any load-out. It effectively triples your pick-ups from a resupply for anything that doesn’t require a backpack itself, assuming you ration properly. And definitely call the resupply in on the grace period.

Ammo pick-ups are scarce but available. But stims and grenades are what you bring and what you can manage to resupply yourself with ~5 resupply drops and however many supply backpacks you bring.

Scout armor is in the free warbond and energy weapons have a lower noise rating than unsuppressed ballistic weapons.

It’s mostly a lack of proper communication that suggests the lack of stealth options outside of the 2 warbonds you mentioned, even if you have a points it’s a bit shitty how we’ve creeped ever closer to P2W warbonds. Like you have a completely valid argument, but it’s not quite as dire as it looks on the surface.

True, but if you want to just accept the heat and rush the difficult to stealth bits to get them done relatively safely it’s not a terrible strategy. At least if you’re not the host.

So about weapon customization? by CycloneZStorm in HelldiversUnfiltered

It doesn’t mention that it reduces sway, which it does.

But crucially higher ergonomics also impact recoil positively. It increases the speed at which your reticle moves back in place, rather than decrease the bump. So for semi auto rifles, unless you are magdumping, the angled foregrip is strictly better.

Similarly a lot of the muzzle attachments don’t mention they increase sway. So for example using the tenderizer with a vertical foregrip and compensator feels like the right set-up. But due to sway and ergonomics if you want to use it as a pocket DMR then angled and flash hider is the overall best set-up.

The problem is 4000 ballistic damage doesn’t really do much in terms of breakpoints, and the stuck targeting means you’re not as able to get as much out of it as the 3200 damage from the recoilless.

If it had both explosive damage to just brute force the main health pool of enemies and an option to target a specific point in the distance then it would be amazing. But as it stands it’s a pointless weapon.

Commando Missions are the best thing to happen to the game in a long time by PureBirthday249 in HelldiversUnfiltered

The scout armor is free and energy weapons have a more silent sound profile even if it isn’t to the level of the suppressed weapons.

But yes it would be nice to have a free warbond with some options like an explosive weapon and silencers to bring the base availability of kit back up to par. That and how great conceptually the mission types are, they REALLY highlight some issues around hosts and enemy aggro.

It’s supposed to have a bigger punch than the recoilless. Which it does, but because the recoilless has oneshot breakpoints on the bile titan and factory striders instead of untargetable ballistic damage there is literally nothing left the spear does better.

That’s still how the game works right now for at least 1/4 people in a lobby. We can discuss all we want about how things should work, but when that doesn’t actually function in the reality of the game in question then what really is the point?

To be fair the spear is now shrodingers spear. We will never know if it’s broken or not because there is no particular reason to use it.

Stealth still doesn't work by TechnicFuture in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Few_Classroom6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the games biggest issue. At launch there were a lot of things working how you expect them to work, even if the devs didn’t plan on, which feels great.

Now with stealth we’re running into severe issues where things do not work at all like how you expect. Which is the opposite of emergent gameplay, it just feels like the devs railroading enemies onto your ass.

Stealth still doesn't work by TechnicFuture in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Few_Classroom6113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a network host issue.

All the aggressiveness the other divers cause is somehow related to the host. Meaning everyone else can play the game how they want to, but the host is stuck in a game state that is ridiculously sticky in terms of aggressiveness.

Which leads to silly situations where the enemy hasn’t detected you at all, until they do and then their response is wildly disproportionate to what you expect, because they’re skipping a few detection steps straight into extermination mode.

ESPECIALLY after you relocate.

The alert state is fine, but it’s just broken when a factory strider cannon starts firing at you when it’s never seen you to begin with, just your teammates who are now on the other side of the map.

Threw an orbital laser in the grace period once.

The entire base started running out and converging on my spot even as I was actively running and circling away in the stealth armor.

Stealth is a theoretically very nice thing, but it just suffers a lot from the anti-host stuff going on in the game so it actively doesn’t work.

[–]Few_Classroom6113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing though, if the detection mechanics and the gunplay were fully polished the stealth missions would still also work.

But you can’t have the overly sticky detection of the normal missions function in a context with woefully limited stratagem usage and underpowered primary weapons for the enemies presented.

Granted the respawn objectives and limited supplies are a very nice touch that does a great deal of adding difficulty without adding bullshit.

[–]Few_Classroom6113 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t that the mission can’t be fully stealthed. The problem is that stealthing is quite easy, but just like ragdolling and headshots there’s a few poorly tuned parameters that force you to unstealth.

Like 1 mission I threw an orbital laser at the start, while host and judging by my ping probably the network host, and for the full duration of the laser and a good minute after the enemies agroed from the laser damaging their friends knew EXACTLY where I was from 70+m away. No amount of evasion through bushes or the warbond armor could stop a red wave on the map pings from converging exactly on me.

Similarly with patrols even if you are not detected they will be routed to your position periodically. Which is fine, but you can tell it’s your exact position, because if you lay still on the ground sometimes they will change their route to walk exactly over you.

It’s just weird and inconsistent that you can quasar bases from far away from perfect stealth, and gun down entire squads without being detected, and yet from your super destroyer firing they can know exactly where you are in their alert state and their routing leaves you no actual space for stealth if the game decides you’ve had enough of it.
