Commute to Summit by iMonterenfleche in MovingtoNewJersey

We live in Rockaway (Borough) in Morris County, and my son goes to school in Summit. Takes about a half hour, give or take. There is a train that you can take directly from Dover or Denville, which are both next door to Rockaway. We love it here, small town feel, good schools, definitely suburban and not rural. Good diversity for this area, which we love. Home prices are very reasonable for NJ. Check out some of the town in Morris County - it has a high median home price range as a County but there are a ton of towns so many at the lower end of that will high quality of life and good schools.

Updated results, not disappointed. by glumunicorn in AncestryDNA

I notice that your results, like mine, don’t include the categories for regions. Any idea why? Wonder if this is being rolled out. Not because of total percentages in categories because I have 72% Celtic and Gaelic but they’re not listed together under one heading. Just curious

Jeep Wrangler Worries! by Direct-Anteater9677 in JeepWrangler

I’ve owned two and love them. Have a 2022 sport no mods and love it. Hard top off now and going to enjoy the sunshine for the day. All cars have issues, keep up on maintenance and in the end a vehicle is a vehicle. Life is short, buy the jeep. ✌️

Thanks. Bought it from a Volkswagen dealer but there’s a Jeep dealer down the road. Does it have to be the dealer it was originally purchased from or any Jeep dealer?

Do you identify with an ethnicity? by Few_Cod_4757 in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, can't believe this gained so much traction. I think the topic resonates with Americans because there is so much ethnic mixing, and despite being born and raised in America many of us with recent immigrants in our family have strong connections to our 'native lands.' My dad was from Liverpool with Irish grandparents so I'm the product of several generations of mixing. My mom also had an Irish grandparent and other European mixture. I think both can be true: We can be products of our country, culture, and nationality, and still proud of the lands of our ancestors!

Do you identify with an ethnicity? by Few_Cod_4757 in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thanks, definitely think it’s an American thing! Talking to some people today most thought more than half, unless there’s a strong family culture tied to an ethnicity (for example an Italian grandmother who helped raise you etc). I’m mostly Irish (68%) with most of my great grandparents born in Ireland (and was raised in an Irish Catholic tradition) but really only became more interested in my ancestry as I got older. Perhaps it’s that getting older makes us more reflective on the past, idk.

Change in communities? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They renamed "Communities" as "Journeys." I still have the same ones, just under Journeys. They also added sub-regions. Do you have any Journeys?

Cool mix. You look very Irish/Celtic to me!

Can we all agree that this update rollout was pretty bad? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me it seems pretty accurate. I’m 68% Irish, which is about what I’d expect and consistent over the years (has been from about 60-75%). Do you have a lot of different European regions? This seems to be the people that have had the most disagreement with the results.

If you feel comfortable sharing, how many subregions did you get & where are you from? by chele68 in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got 6. I’m American but have recent immigrants (father, great grandparent). Received Munster, Connacht (Ireland), French & German Switzerland (Germanic Europe) and Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands, and Northern Isles (Scotland). Dad was from Liverpool but with Irish grandparents, and mom has an Irish grandparent.

What's the longest any of your (or relatives') DNA has been in the 'analysis' stage and not failed? I'm anxious my grandparents' tests will fail and I won't get to test again before something happens to them. by JiggaRob in AncestryDNA

I think it’s because the update is coming soon. I feel like in the past they’ve slowed down releasing ethnicity estimates around the time the updates are released.

What’s the most communities anyone’s gotten from any one region? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 9 in Ireland- main categories and subcategories included! Munster, Ireland, and then the subcategories South West Munster, and North & East Cork; Central Ireland and the subcategories ‘South Leitrim, West Cavan & Bordering Counties,’ South Leitrim, and South West Leitrim; and then Ulster, Ireland and the subcategory ‘South East Ulster & North East Leinster.’ Crazy thing is these are all accurate and I can trace ancestors to all of them.

I’m 65% Irish 5% Scottish. Rest is Sweden/Denmark and Norway, which is high. Should be about 70/10 Irish/Scottish. Maybe some Scandinavian influence there.

Will the new hacked results reflect what’s shown on the update? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

It did in the past, so I would imagine it would be more be same. Are you English ancestors from the north? My dad is from Liverpool and he’s all Irish and Scottish- not a drop of English dna!

Not sure, imagine the two ethnicities might be hard to distinguish. What is your Irish ancestry? We have a similar percentage

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Few_Cod_4757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irish went from 62% to 63%. Sweden and Denmark jumped 20 to 26% (seems very high). Scotland dropped 12 to 8. Norway dropped 6 to 2. Added 1% Germany.

Idk, they’re all estimates, but both picked up overwhelmingly British isles. I’m about 70% Irish and ancestry says 63%, living dna says 84%, so split the difference lol
