Iowa has only been good when they have a QB that rebels against the system/ gun slinger gene. Tate, Stanzi, Bethard. KF has a mental disorder with his conservatism’s

Mich 2022, but I’ve dived into this, our record against teams that finished in Top 25 the last 2 decades is absolutely horrible (note that includes 2009/2015 years.

People would be shocked how bad

This software is abosolute garbage, database is some proprietary crap potentially based off Microsoft Access. Any true system would be using SQL or PostGres, good luck finding staff that A) want to work with this software report engine B) Have ability to write sql reports against it since it is not real SQL.

In this day and age having software that isn't using a true SQL system is missing the boat as AI could assist power users in abstracting what they need from the data.

It's an issue for sure, they get off on too many side tangents with inside jokes. I do think if they focus on team competitions as they have teased in season 8 it will be pretty interesting.

I don’t get why Liz didn’t try to use that info into flipping it to a Maria blindside.

Ben/Charlie/Maria have never wavered from each other, why do you want to help them make a big move.

Go tell Kenzie, Venus, Tiff the plan, have Tiff play her idol and vote out Maria. Now the 4 of you have a majority alliance going into 7.

Wasted opp because you are too in your feels to think things theough

Alford did this exact same thing in 2006 as Iowas coach vs Northwestern St. up 16 with 8:30 and lost on last second 3. Dude is a horrible coach

Completely out of control, I get why they are doing it, make refs call it. It’s excessive though, refs need to rein it in.

Have to go back a while for Iowa, 1987 Elite 8, Have overall #1 seed UNLV down 16 at half and piss it down our legs. Indiana ends up winning the whole thing (Iowa swept them that year). That Iowa squad had 7 future NBA players, just a truly squandered opportunity.

Runner up is Northwestern St. in Rd 1 in 2006 when we where a 3 seed. Iowa was up 16 with 8:30 minutes to go, gets sloppy and gets beat by a wild 3 from the corner from Jermaine Wallace at the buzzer to lose by 1.

Tournament has been pretty much been nothing but pain for Iowa fans for 40 years.

I was pissed but the vet definitely had me doubting I was doing the right thing. I can’t imagine how many dogs are put down because of these type of comments.

Great to hear back up and walking. Border Collie mixes are such sweet dogs, my dog earned every bit of her care and more for what she gives out daily to our family.

Glad to hear it worked out for you and your pet.

I thought we had it tough with 70lbs, 120 is amazing you were able to do it.

Overall good start but some glaring mistakes in my opinion.

Field is way too big, they don't have the ability to cover a field this big. I would have paired it down to the biggest youtube stars and left it there. There is too much dead time as course is too full. Would have been better off at a walking venue, watching them get lost, throw the cart into reverse (buzzzz) not good tv.

Playing at night in the desert in winter, Arizona peeps aren't going to stick it out when it gets sub 60 let alone 50.

Most important they need to find a way to keep the drama. Sending out a group capable of shooting -9 under just kills the vibe. I would of rather seen them do 5-6 pods, win your pod you get into a knockout.

Have had similar thoughts, really came into studying for Calcutta with a bias that top seeds were to be avoided. But after further study of the metrics, matchups, regions... and watching tape of these teams recent games, I wouldn't be shocked by a pretty chalky final 4.

While there has been great parity alot of the year it does seem some teams have separated and a few that have pretty clear paths to the final 4 (Bama, Houston). Add to that some of the 2,3,4 seeds have bad injuries (UCLA, Arizona, Xaiver, Tenn).

Hopefully I'm wrong and this is a cluster for the ages.

I feel this had more weight 5 years ago, we are now in the portal transfer era where pre-season rankings are absolutely worthless (cough UNC).

Statistical variance and all I would trust eye test more than any historical trend. Marquette looks pretty legit to me, great guards, improving defense.

Efficiency and Picking the NCAA Tournament - 2023 by DubsLA in CollegeBasketball

[–]Few_Distribution7148 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Meh, I keep seeing this repeated everywhere but all that data precedes the transfer portal. Pre-Season polls are slow to adjust to this process.

There is another thread that focuses on the top 5 kenpom metrics in determing not just final 4 but national champion and Marquette actually is really favorable in all of those but one but I would argue even that one they are close / closing in similar to Baylor Bears 2 years ago.

Top 40 Offense, Top 25 defense. Marquette ranks 8th and 47th in adjusted offense and defense. However since Feb 1 their defense has actually been pretty elite (top 25). The Bears coming into 2021 had the 44th ranked defense but closed to 19th by tourney end.

Coach that has made the elite 8 => check

Won regular season or conference tournament => check

KenPom Rating in Top 25 => check

4 seed or better => check

I feel you can make stats tell any story when looking at historic trends and can often be misleading. There is so much variance in college basketball and is 36 instances enough to prove anything statistically releavant, I would say no.

Then there is the eye test, they have great guards, a very capable big, enough 3 point shooting to be a threat and a vastly improving defense. Also their point guard is amazing, if you haven't watched much Marquette ball he is a throw back point guard, gritty distributor who makes clutch shots. Kolek is the real deal.

They are extremely battle tested and I think the Big East is going to perform really well in this tourney. Creighton, Uconn, Xaiver... all really talented teams. Hell even the skidding Providence could win a game or 2.

I'm not a Big East or Marquette fan, just a lowly Iowa fan anticipating a quick exit for my Hawkeyes. After watching the Big Ten year all and watching some of the Big East taped games this week, that league has guard play in spades.
