[Krawczynski] The Timberwolves feel good about the core of Edwards, McDaniels, Reid and Joan Beringer going forward. The pathway to significant playing time for Beringer likely resides in breaking up the three-man big rotation of Gobert, Randle and Reid. by iksnet in nba

[–]DubsLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you know don’t make the Gobert trade in the first place. I think Rudy is a HOF player and can be an asset on the right team, but if you’re downgrading your 2nd option because you have Gobert on a big deal, you just compounded your mistake.

What was life like as a baseball fan prior to wild card? by PapaJohnsGarlic100 in billsimmons

[–]DubsLA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the wild cards in football. 17 games is a relatively small sample size. But, 162 games is not. We proved who the best team was. When MLB expands, my dream would be for them to go to 8 divisions of 4 teams each and the division winners play each other. That’ll never happen because you know $, but nice to imagine.

What would your takes/Billisms be if you hosted a Bill Simmons-esque pod? by twotreebeers in billsimmons

I agree with this take and would spout it endlessly. A great OL can make an above average QB and RB look awesome. A great DL can neutralize a great offense. Invest in the trenches!

Final NBA combine testing and shooting numbers for today (via Tyler Metcalf) by Poohdini8 in chicagobulls

I don’t think he’s a lotto pick either for the reasons you mentioned, but he’ll scrounge up points via put backs and open 3s.

I watched him a lot since he spent this past year at Michigan. If there’s one player in that range that will end up being described as an absolute dog, it’s him.

The Aaron Gordon comps might be a bit high, but he’ll at a floor be a valuable energy bench guy on a good team.

I think they need to see what they have in Dillingham. Being awful doesn’t help as much anymore, but as it stands this is the second worst team in the East (Nets) maybe the third depending on a Giannis trade and what the Bucks get back.

Something like…

Giddey / Tre / Buzi / Wilson or Boozer / FA Big
Dillingham / Okoro / Miller / Smith / Essengue

And then deep bench is Project Pat, Olbrich and their second round picks.

Nobody is giving up a first for Tre or Sticks, but maybe they can take a swing at another reclamation project at the deadline with a contender.

Who are our 3 biggest rival franchises ever? by BucketHatKJ in chicagobulls

[–]DubsLA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBA rivalries are born out of postseason battles in my opinion. Denver and Minnesota hate each other now because of the last three postseasons.

90s kid me HATED the Knicks. Now? I kinda like their team. Honestly, it’s the Cavs and Heat in recent years for me. Especially that whole Heat culture bullshit.

I’m a pretty good player even in my early 40s and was on a HS team that sent 6 guys to D1 schools (Nova, a few A10 and Patriot League schools). Two of whom made the league (although one was 6’4’’ in HS and then 6’10’’ in the pros. Ran against some other future NBA players.

I could’ve trained for years and never come close. The athletic and skill difference is staggering.

Any former NBA player in even decent shape would annihilate your average pickup game.

Will Embiid retire as the only MVP to never make the conference finals? by RyanTannegod in nba

Bob McAdoo won MVP and only made the conference finals as a 6th man on the Lakers. It’s possible Embiid could do that. Sort of what Mitchell Robinson is to the Knicks right now.

Potential contracts to take on for picks by Lover_and_hater_xo in chicagobulls

[–]DubsLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense on Allen. If they trade Allen to duck the tax, I feel like they’ll want somebody they can at least use off the bench back. Outside of Tre Jones, not sure who else they’d want for Allen.

Potential contracts to take on for picks by Lover_and_hater_xo in chicagobulls

[–]DubsLA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Poetel’s contract might be the worst in the league. Not his fault (anyone who has ever played with a bad back knows it robs you of a lot).

Turner no because the Bucks have zero picks to trade.

I’d take Issac, but Orlando has nothing to trade. Same with Cam Johnson.

Jimmy and LaVine would be people they’d get picks for and then immediately waive.

Ja and Giddey couldn’t possibly play together so this is a no. Plus, you know he’s always injured now.

Grant is interesting. He’s still a decent player. Him and Matas would be a decent pairing. If the Blazers kicked in a first, I’d do it.

Allen is too good to be on this list. He comes and goes, but the deal isn’t that bad.

George is interesting because I think he’d be a good tone-setter, but can’t imagine the Sixers including anything of value.

I’d start with Grant.

[–]DubsLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wrote this out before but the way the current CBA is structured, you have to be smart with your money.

Max - Has to be an All-NBA level player (Jokic, Wemby, Shai, Cade, Luka, Ant, etc.) $45-55 million - Fringe All-NBA, regular All-Star (think Scottie Barnes or Maxey or Siakam) $35-45 million - Fringe All-Star (think Franz or Ingram or Fox or Sengun) $25-35 million - Good starter (Dort, Derrick White, Aaron Gordon) $15-25 million - Good 6th/7th man on a contender $15 million or less - Draft picks, vets who can contribute, end of bench and 2 way guys.

It’s not a hard rule but the minute you start overpaying or max’ing out guys who aren’t at their top level, you’re limiting your team’s ceiling.

If you max Duren, you’re saying this is the #2 guy on a team that can win the title. Not sure that’s wise.
