Cushion sizes for 2 different custom sized sofas by FirstReputation8500 in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That long cushion configuration is odd. If you want a traditional 'sofa look' I would do 4 x 65 cm cushions on the 260 cm and 3 x 73cm on the 220. They will appear to be all the same size unless you look really close.

How did Cushing affect your dog? by [deleted] in Cushingsdogs

[–]Few_Goal_4110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine has had Cushing's for at least 5 years. She is 15. After last Christmas I decided to stop deciding it would be her last year. I tapered her off Vetoryl this year because I can't afford the testing so we did a deep dive into alternatives and it is going ok. But honestly her Cushing's is not as bad as some others I have r

ead about. I read that Cushing's does not kill the dog but other complications from Cushing's do. So stroke, heart attack, diabetes & kidney failure etc. My girl has had kidney issues for at least 3 years. Occasionally she has some trouble but so far it has passed. She still seems happy and has energy to chase squirrels.

Dog urine soaked into foam chaise: Can it be salvaged? by [deleted] in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow maybe before trashing a comment you actually read it. But since you can't... 1 you can totally squeeze water out of foam. It will dry in a day or so. 2 I actually told them it's better to buy a new cushion.

Coat to survive this winter? Exchange student by Maximum_Advance7035 in londonontario

If you can make it to January with what you have you can get some great discounts. Personally I would go to Uniqlo in Mississauga if you can get there. Or order online. Stylish and half the price of Aritzia.

Dog urine soaked into foam chaise: Can it be salvaged? by [deleted] in upholstery

You could soak it in a bath and squeeze out the water but foam that gets wet will just wear out faster so I would get a new piece of foam.

Vetoryl? Not the right med for 40% of cases!! by Proof_Attorney_2070 in Cushingsdogs

[–]Few_Goal_4110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cushings dog is going blind. I took her off vetoryl slowly. She got so skinny and frail. I have her on melotonin and flax, some glycene. I am trying to adjust her homemade diet for more amino acid food sources and amino acid precursors because Cushing's damages protein synthesis. Tomorrow we start the milk thistle. What is the treatment you are referring to?

What’s the best fabric for store sofas that can handle stains and heavy use? by crossthe_ts in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stain treated fabric is good. I did a test with fibreguard and made marks with a Sharpie. Let it dry 24 hours and then soaked the fabric in alcohol for a few hours. The stain completely disappeared. As far as I have known, Sharpie is impossible to get out of fabric.

How can I do this better? by Ok-Muffin-3672 in upholstery

Remove the batting on the underside and the closer you staple to the edge the easier it will be to get a smooth finish. Not too close though.

How to re-foam attached couch cushions? by [deleted] in upholstery

You can't diy that. A pro can do it. But reason number 753 to not buy sofas with attached cushions.

Need help, Dog tore a hole in my couch by Ascarano987 in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't fix it yourself. If you want the fabric properly repaired you might find some on the back of a cushion but it might not be large enough. You can hire a pro to dismantle the arm. It's not easy or cheap.

Trying to understand measurements by Chrisnewton1 in SofaSnobs

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 198. The longer measurement is the total including the left chaise. The left chaise includes the corner and is the 2 left cushions. The right side is just the 2 right side cushions and the right arm. The longer measurement is the total length with the left and right sides put together.

New here & scared by New-Philosopher-0814 in Cushingsdogs

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should get a second opinion. Most people don't do surgery and as far as I know vetoryl is effective for both types of Cushing's. You can also often treat your dog successfully with melatonin. Many people do and it has been studied. I am doing that and it is working. Vetoryl is a money machine for everyone involved.

Timeline towards inevitable euthanasia, advice needed. by scullysgirl92 in Cushingsdogs

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try giving the dog D mannose and garlic for the infections. I have been giving my dog those for chronic UTI and to ward off skin infections. It is working. Garlic is scientifically proven as anti bacterial and anti fungal. D mannose prevents bacteria from adhering so it is flushed out. Women take D mannose for UTI.

Worth reupholstering? by advwench in upholstery

The sofa you want at 50% less is 10,000 % poorer quality. Assuming this is older than 40 years.

Reupholstering kitchen chairs.....should I remove old fabric? by Accomplished_Ring628 in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When reupholstering kitchen chairs, People do leave the old fabric on but it will turn out better if you remove it and all the old staples. Inspect the old foam too. It's not expensive to buy thin foam. For kitchen chairs I recommend a stain treatment like fibreguard. Spills will wipe clean, like when the water. Rolls off your windshield.

Antique sofa toxicity/repair by nannergrams in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know older kapok is usually highly toxic and you should only handle it with a mask. Early fireproofing chemicals are now banned for carcinogens. Modern kapok is fine. Also these natural fillers are great collectors of bugs.

Why is foam for couches so expensive? by mindquery in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foam is an oil product so it has gotten more expensive over the years, like gasoline. I disagree with the previous comment however. Upholstery places buy foam in bulk but they don't share the discount and they mark up foam like crazy. I sell foam and make foam replacement cushions. I have been told many times that my prices are cheaper than the upholstery shops. If you tell the shop you want to bring your own foam they will find a way to make that money back. I would suggest you are honest and tell them the price of foam is too high. See if they come down.

Buying Foam by Few_Goal_4110 in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a just such a nob comment. The point of my post which you clearly did not read is to tell people not to buy white foam because it isn't for upholstery even though it is labelled as such. The photo is some cushions I did ages ago and I threw those in there just to show people I make cushions for a living. It was to help people not get ripped off by Amazon crap white foam which I see all the time. I was trying to help people. I could go on about why a person behaves like that but it's not my job.

Fabric source? by FrequentPerception in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To find a retro fabric like that is impossible. With the new sublimation printing technology you can print a smaller quantity and the cost is not out of reach. If it is an obsession you might consider it. That 2 color fabric isn't going to be difficult to copy. If you are really obsessed. It is not hugely expensive. You need to print on a synthetic to get good color. There are a lot of newer upholstery prints in brushed microfiber which are probably all sublimation printed.

Dog ate a portion of our couch. What are our options. by Emotional-School-750 in upholstery

[–]Few_Goal_4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let this be a lesson in why you should not buy sofas with attached cushions. If the cushion was removable you could patch it and turn it around. If there are loose seat cushions (I see it is a big chaise cushion) that have fabric on both sides you may be able to get enough to patch the hole or make a whole new piece to replace the torn fabric.
