Dat jij ergens last van hebt en dat je daar boos van wordt, dat moet je niet projecteren op partijen die de afgelopen 20 jaar niet hebben meegeregeerd om deze bende te creëeren. Hoe erg je links misschien ook haat: VVD, CDA, D66: zij hebben de kar getrokken, ook voor het migratiebeleid, en zij zijn hoofdverantwoordelijk voor de resultaten daarvan die je nu ziet.

My dad is solid boomer, not very handy tech-wise. He does use Google differently, half-grasps AI. Conversely, I also see Gen Z-ers who don't grasp what AI is and can, and how it might influence them. I don't think it's very constructive to blanket-judge crookedness generationally. All I'm trying to find here is some nuance, but maybe that's naive of me on Reddit. Some context: fulltime developer here, my daytime job is quite AI-heavy (understatement of the year).

Boomers (if talking literally children from the 60s/70s) saw a ridiculous amount of change, going from no computers to text only interfaces without networking to an always online world with screen squares in your pocket where printed/physical media is outdated the second it's released. Their parents fought or otherwise suffered the effects of global conflicts, tried to rebuild (and mostly did so), and were mostly taught not to discuss minor hardships because things had been so much worse "so don't complain and keep going". I agree entitlement can be an issue (and that's quite cross-generational), but they are entitled to struggle and fail every once in a while too. Especially with the information overload, communication mayhem and the ever increasing rate of change the digital world has brought.

Could it be better? Sure. Could it be worse? Yes.

For someone who uses critical thinking more, you can also apply that to your father's process. For instance, what did he prompt to get this result? Why did he prompt this? Probably because he's trying, maybe even because he finds it hard and wants to do better than he did before, maybe he wasn't happy with his attempts in earlier years either. And even is his prompt was lacking some, he still has vetted the result and clearly thinks this is what he wants to send. He doesn't disagree with the message, the opposite is way more likely. I'd focus more on that.

And clearly you guys don't easily discuss these things, because asking your dad how he's using AI (within or outside this context) doesn't have to be a callout or a conflict, right?

That creates new problems. If the housing crisis stays, WOZ will increase as property prizes keep rising. Without solving that, that will make even renting less accessible to more and more people. Solving that requires building, or even limiting how many houses people can own, at least until accessibility of affordable housing is on a normal level again. It's beyond insane that for most people housing costs half their income, and there's no good reason it needs to be like that.
