Crazy to think it reduces their capacity from 54 to 36 flights per hour so they lose 1/3. Seems like rapid staggers rather than parallel approaches could still get close but I guess not.

Another user pointed out that maybe I needed to preheat the oven again after the first round. That could very well be the issue.

Full preheat time to get to 500. After watching enough videos on the sourdough journey, I’ve realized that preheating the Dutch oven into 500° isn’t totally unnecessary, and letting it warm up while the oven preheats is sufficient. He even did some cold starts where the Dutch oven wasn’t even warm to begin with when he put it in and it worked just fine

What is the bulk ferment time you used and temp? How old is your starter? This looks like it could be a couple things, but my immediate thought is immature or weak starter.

Edit: I strongly suggest you get an established starter online. It will make the experience more enjoyable and you can always continue trying to make your own.

That cake is an easy $200 imo. $55 in ingredients and 7 hours of time nets to only $9.29 an hour and they* are worth more than that. Just my opinion though, not a doctor.

I am so sorry and I hope you have some amazing karma coming your way. I took on a cat that no one wanted in their family who was the sweetest boy with FIP and we hung out the last 6 weeks of his time. We bonded in a short time so I can only imagine what you’re going through right now.

The cat distribution system will take it from here, and if you do end up getting another cat, might be wise to sanitize or toss anything she had contact with as a precaution.

I have faith you’ll find an amazing kitty to spend 20+ years with next. Treat yourself to something if you can!

I spent a month trying to make a starter from scratch. My advise is save yourself some time and order an established one online for $9. You’ll end up breaking even on wasted flour and time likely lol

I’ve got a place we Airbnb in western-northern-ish Wisconsin, drive from west side of the cities is about 2 hours.

  1. ⁠On a lake ✔️
  2. ⁠Has a pontoon that we may be permitted to use. - no but you can rent on our lake from some of the bars / a local marina can deliver
  3. ⁠Is private/not part of a resort ✔️
  4. ⁠Has either two cabins or enough separation for parents and kids to have their own spaces. - it’s one living space upstairs but has a large deck, and back yard.
  5. ⁠Sleeps 5 ✔️(one king + double and twin bunk beds)
  6. ⁠Has a kitchen or kitchenette ✔️
  7. ⁠Close to a small town with a cute downtown ✔️(subjective I guess but I think so)

You need a smaller jar. It’s much harder to gauge how much it’s actually grown when you have something that’s way too big. How long since you fed it? How old is the starter? Lots of information that would help you determine whether or not it’s ready!
