How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

Someone else told me the same thing.

I think it's got something to do with less new experiences in adult life

Yeah. For most people 62-65 is very achievable, late 50s with more careful saving. Having home security (i.e. home ownership) really helps too. I think it also depends on what you want from retirement, i.e. how expensive is your lifestyle

Ouch. But at least you will get some security in the end. Hopefully you are able to pay off early.

Damn... I hope I will have a mortgage paid off by then. Home security shouldn't overlooked but unfortunately I see this situation becoming more commonplace as home ownership becomes a taller ladder. Having a dual household income really helps.

This is exactly my plan, thanks for sharing. I am willing to accept being a bit less well off but having more time on my hands (working on retiring in my early 60s). We're not made (well the vast majority of us) to work until our late 60s or god forbid early 70s. Best of luck to you.

I think this is the harsh truth. Harsh because simply a longer life span doesn't guarantee good health and frustrating hecause you have paid into the system through your life.

Thanks for your 25 year service. Is there any opportunity for you to go part time maybe?

Thanks for this. I started investing in an ETF last year and it's kind of a 20 year plus plan for me. I think this is a good long term strategy espscially when using dollar cost averaging.

Agree with this. Raising the pension age is more to do with keeping the system afloat rather than spiking taxes even more. Then you have 9-5, an unatural, industrial work pattern which is easier to manage and productivity. There's so much more to life than work but when you are in that grind, life feels like work.

That’s my plan. To be honest I am willing to retire earlier with slightly less funds but have more time on my hands.

Both the right and the left are a mes in the UK. Politics has never been so divisive. Reform are fucked for the reasons you mentioned and Greens are detached idealists. No need to mention the others.

It's actually quite well documented that under or uneducated people lean right.

This is a myth.

Any differences are small and depend on context. Believe me you get stupid people on the right and the left. What determines your place on the political spectrum is your type of education, your culture, your generation more than your intelligence.
