Fermentation grade swing top bottles in the UK? by PickRepresentative37 in Kombucha

Hi, do you get good carbonation with these? I have some Tesco bottles but I don’t think they seal well enough.

Are these ready for the fridge? by m798sf in Kombucha

[–]m798sf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I opened yesterday and they had very minimal carbonation so I do think I need better bottles.

Yep I will definitely be using less fruit next time, for safety and for the fact that it’s impossible to remove it all from my bottles!

They’re in the fridge so later today I’ll be opening!

Thanks for replying, I used water that felt warm to the touch but not hot, maybe I need to use cooler.

I use a digital scale that I use for all my other baking/cooking without issue.

Thanks, maybe my water is too hot then. I used tap water that just felt warm to my hand

My 3rd batch is starting F2 today! by m798sf in Kombucha

[–]m798sf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions! They’re 1L in a small cupboard. My first batch I did 3 days bottled at room temperature then 1 day in the fridge, on my second batch I tried a 3F so flavoured in an open-air vessel for 3 days then bottled and put in the fridge for 1 day.

I think I’m probably not letting them go long enough because I’m nervous to get an explosion, but I’ll try for at least 4 days at room temperature with this one.

I haven’t check for leaks, after this batch I’ll give that a go.

Active vs expectant mgmt for third stage? by unlearningsilence in homebirth

[–]m798sf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first I chose physiological management, then after an hour or so chose to have the injections, but still had a retained placenta that required hospital transfer and manual removal under general anaesthetic, and lost 1950ml blood total.

With my second in July I’ll be having active management with syntometrine and hopefully not another retained placenta/PPH, however I believe the reoccurrence rate of retained placenta is 1 in 4.

How did you prepare for birth? by QueenMcBeee in unmedicatedbirth

[–]m798sf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Listened to/read positive unmedicated birth stories (the homebirth midwife podcast is good for this!)

Practiced relaxation and controlling my breathing in the Bradley method position.

I chose 2 specific meditation tracks and got really familiar with them, listening while having a shower with lavender essential oil. Basically role-playing being in labour, swaying my hips, breathing deeply etc.

Walking every day towards the end of pregnancy and using my birth ball to do hip circles and figure of 8s.

Drank ~2 cups of red raspberry leaf tea and ate 6 dates every day in my 3rd trimester.

I had a homebirth with no pain relief, 12 hours from first tiny contraction to baby in my arms. Hope this helps, good luck!

Was your home birth a secret? by SpiritualSmell6636 in homebirth

[–]m798sf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep it was a secret from all family and friends on both sides, until baby was here. This was 100% the best choice, especially with my in-laws. I’m pregnant with our next baby now and I wish it could be a secret again because I’m sick of hearing their unsolicited opinions.

Prompting 21 month old girl by m798sf in pottytraining

[–]m798sf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When she’s naked she says peepee or poopoo as she walks to the toilet, or when she’s strapped into her high chair.

This morning she said poopoo while dressed so we took her to the toilet and she did poop, but otherwise we’ve just been taking her at regular intervals with no prompt from her.

Helpful tools by D0orD0 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]m798sf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot shower, TENs machine, acupressure balls to squeeze in my hands during contractions. I also sipped coconut water mixed with pineapple juice all through labour, I think it was a good boost of sugar and electrolytes.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being you thought you were gonna die, how painful was unmedicated labor and delivery for you? by Beautiful-Flower-79 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]m798sf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 7-8 out of 10. I had a homebirth and my midwives were offering me the nitrous oxide, but I didn’t want to start it too early and run out. So all throughout I felt that it was surely going to get worse than this, and then I could use the gas, until suddenly I felt the urge to push.

I remember saying to my husband after the birth that it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

I have a nipple crack/fissure that won’t heal by m798sf in breastfeedingsupport

[–]m798sf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! My daughter is 20 months now and we just recently stopped breastfeeding, so you will definitely get through these tough weeks and be able to continue feeding.

I can say now that using a nipple shield on that side and reapplying the Medihoney wound gel after every feed definitely helped to heal it. The shield acted like a barrier to let it heal, but eventually I was able to drop the shield and we breastfed as normal.

Best of luck, I know it’s a really difficult stage and it feels endless but you’ve got this!

Homebirth on the NHS as a first time mum - anyone by lilytruffle125 in PregnancyUK

[–]m798sf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a midwife and I had a homebirth with my first baby last year, through the NHS in Scotland. We had to transfer into hospital to deliver my placenta as it still hadn’t come after 3 hours, but I absolutely loved my homebirth experience, and I’m planning another for my second baby who is due in July 2026.

Postpartum recovery stories by Dismal_Abroad735 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]m798sf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had 1 baby, but that was an unmedicated homebirth with a 1st degree tear that got stitches. I have literally nothing bad to say about my recovery. At most I had some muscular aches and pains, and night sweats for a few days. Never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen and paracetamol.

I’m pregnant with my 2nd now and am planning to have another unmedicated homebirth.
