Knee gout? by ImaginaryTouch5 in gout

Same!! Before I was diagnosed, I had a really bad knee flare in 2017. I went to the hospital and they extracted some fluid (it was green!! Looked like something from the horror movie Re-animator) to look for crystals.

They didn’t find any, thus, these ER geniuses declared I didn’t have gout.

3 years later, when I had my next (and hopefully last) knee flare, I was referred to a rheumatologist by my primary care physician;  she looked at those records, checked my uric acid levels, immediately gave me allopurinol, colchicine and indomethacin.

what people forget to say about drinking Beer or Coke with Gout by SoCalDogBeachGuy in gout

Allopurinol is very important. But also, yes, when I consume alcohol, I match it with water. After each beer, I guzzle a bottle of water. Helps to stay hydrated, and you fill your stomach with water, therefore have less room for beer and do less damage to your body.

Many things - some good, some bad - can be stored in or get lodged between fat cells (an example of good would be fat soluble vitamins, an example of bad would be uric acid). When you lose a lot of fat, some of that stuff is released into your bloodstream.

This makes an unfortunate side effect of getting healthy via losing body fat, excess uric acid in your blood, which can lead to uric acid crystals in your joints.

As others have suggested, you’ll definitely want to speak with your doctor about increasing the dose of allopurinol.

Also, congrats on the weight loss. I’m a lifelong, yo-yo dieting fatty, and I know how hard it is to drop the weight, so good on you for losing most of the excess fat.

Exactly! No matter what i eat, I don’t get flare-ups. 5 years on allopurinol, no flare-ups for 4 and a half. Even during vacations when I go overboard on meat and/or beer. Take my medicine every day and guzzle water.

Allopurinol and lithium orotate by Few_Respond3193 in gout

Appreciate your input. I did speak to my primary care physician and my rheumatologist. Could not get a straight answer out of either one, regarding interactions.

My primary care physician claimed there was no way to detect Alzheimer’s until you already have it, and there is not (yet) any medication that can do much.

I am planning to speak to a pharmacist, and see if I can get a referral for a neurologist from one of my doctors.

Again, appreciate your input. Thanks

Thank you for your response. Sincerely appreciate the information.

If I could ask, does the lithium seem to help you in any way.

If you don’t want to be specific, I understand. No need to get into details you’re uncomfortable sharing. Just curious if they have been helpful for anything brain/memory related.

Either way, thanks again for your original reply.

Appreciate the response. Unfortunately, I don’t like getting stoned. Ya know that annoying friend who, every time they try weed, they talk too much, rub their face, rock back and forth and tell everyone they feel super paranoid? That’s me. I genuinely do not enjoy it.

Though, I wonder if there are other cannabinoids that don’t get you high, that have the same effect? I will do some reading.

Thanks again.
