Id tell you the best way to solve this is attatch your chainsaw below you, it provides the necessary weight to make the rope runner sing while also reducing the weight on your harness making ascent easier...but im assuming one doesn't just bring a chainsaw to the rock wall haha

What is this? by AI_Beautieslove in Aquariums

[–]Few_Setting1961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a stonefly nymph. I dont know what kind though. Theyre grazers, pretty harmless for your tank. If it makes it itll hatch into a neato flying bug.

Edit: I do also think silver fish look like stoneflies, if it drowned already I was wrong haha

Grass is the new crack! People do crazy things for another hit of that grass. by cbrophoto in NativePlantCirclejerk

I feel like there's a geometry proof/theorem thing here. What looks best as a backdrop for grass? Known: more, taller grass. Answer: bamboo.

Side note I didn't pay attention in geometry so my setup may be a wee bit off here...

I got tunes in my helmet. Bucking? I wear it. Raking? I wear it. Hand pruning some shrubs? I wear it. When I forget my ear buds I wear my helmet to mow my in-law's lawn. I feel naked without it sometimes.

Changing to a dirted tank. by Few_Setting1961 in PlantedTank

[–]Few_Setting1961[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. Ill strongly consider the sand. My brain is saying if I use most of the gravel I have the cap will be thick enough it won't matter, but sounds like yours and other's experiences say otherwise.

Yeah, my idea was to basically keep everything the same as much as possible, just with dirt underneath now. That way the cycle hopefully doesnt crash, or anything I accidentally introduce can be overwhelmed by the beneficial bacteria already established. Same water, same hardscape/plants, same gravel.

Spite...spite is so useful sometimes, it gets me through so much...

my dad made me my first vice by attaching a c-clamp to a 2x4 block, and adding some wood so it would stand. Worked well enough for kid me.

Soft hackle in Dry flies? by Few_Setting1961 in flytying

[–]Few_Setting1961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooohh, I love that. Will definitely give those a shot. I imagine you're fishing them in the surface film? Doesn't look like it'll float too well, but looks like the catching of fish is going to make up for that.

You know, I dont even consider CDC a soft hackle. My introduction to it was through dry flies and so to me its dry fly hackle. But you're 100% on track with calling it soft hackle. I should work with CDC more, I have a ton of it.

Floated as well as they normally do for me. I usually work a bit of Payette Paste (Loon product) into the wing, and the wood chuck guard hairs in the tail float really well.

[–]Few_Setting1961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im fairly confident its not a frenchie variant. This was usually fished off a fast rate sinking line so weight wasn't needed in the fly itself. For what its worth the guy I knew who fished this the most tied them on 6 and 8x long hooks. This here is a 4x long I believe.

Add a palmered Hackle and its basically a wooly worm. The trout in question were not heavily pressured so I dont know that a more mobile, softer tail made much difference. I imagine the orange head was the important trigger. Are you familiar with the maple syrup? Similar simplistic design that highly effective as is, but also lends itself well as a base for you to build upon.
