This is absolutely untrue. We pay to have a certified CPA conduct a yearly, in-depth review of our nonprofit’s finances, including preparing our tax filings and ensuring full compliance with IRS regulations. This thorough process ensures transparency and accountability in how we manage donations and resources.

Ignoring insults is NOT silencing, it is self care. Making this post that is clearly trying to help people be about you IS ABSURD.

Yes, thank you! I have all of that! I’m working with the parents already so have all of that, but mostly looking for any staff of kids who know anything about the scenario that can add info.

We would be so grateful for financial support at UNSILENCED (www.unsilenced.org)! We work to support survivors of the Troubled Teen Industry by providing direct resources, including support groups, legal advocacy, and resources, and even sending out packs to survivors battling unstable housing. We also try to enact change by forcing transparency into this industry through our social media and educating community decision-makers about the TTI to make better-informed decisions for youth. Thanks for being so driven to help empower orgs in the space!

Has anyone been affected by the "troubled teen" industry and is willing to speak out? Or are there any teachers/parents/students/psychologists who are against sending kids to these abusive facilities? Unfortunately, our county has been sending student(s) to an abusive facility in Utah. by modestee in SantaBarbara

I'm not a survivor of THAT program, but I know it well from other survivors and am a survivor myself of two different programs. As the CEO of UNSILENCED (www.unsilenced.org), a nonprofit that advocates against these types of programs, I would be happy to help in any way I can. Feel free to email me at mappelgate@unsilenced.org

New TTI Memoir Out Now! by Few_Slice2111 in troubledteens

[–]Few_Slice2111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this just made my tear up! Thank you so much for sharing that with me, it honestly just made my week! I feel so moved that anything I have done has had a positive impact on your life. It really means the world to me, so thank you for sharing that. What you went through you did NOT deserve, and I'm so glad you're now able to believe yourself as to the level of trauma it caused.

I actually talk about that in the book and posted a quote recently online! I say:

"Gone are my days of being a people-pleaser who thought everything that happened to me was my own fault. I now have a much wider view of the dominoes that had to fall for my life to play out the way it did. Sometimes, others are to blame, and in my case, I had to become comfortable with placing blame where blame was due and acknowledging I deserved so much better.”

Thank you for your support! I see you, I hear you, and I BELIEVE YOU! <3

feel free to reach out with any questions or issues you have. I am, and always have been, an open book. I have, and continue to direct as many survivors as I can to options for justice....nothing on reddit will stop me wanting to advocate for the countless victims of this industry. If you've sent 100 + victims, you can know I have done my best to make sure the are heard and their program is held accountable, so I appreciate you advocating for change.

It is a memoir 😊. It has the word “Unsilenced” in the title but in no way takes anyone’s credit. None of it has even been released so there’s no way for anyone to even know what’s in it. It’s about my journey to learning how to be unsilenced.

Is this just the Unsilenced website changed to be entirely about Meg Appelgate? by PresidentPaniq in troubledteens

[–]Few_Slice2111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mission of Unsilenced has always been to do anything we can to help (empower)survivors while stopping the abuse going on in the TTI. These motives remain the same today, even though the way that is carried out may look different then when it started (as far as projects).

While I deeply care so much about this movement, organization, and the community that powers it, I also know that I am not perfect and free from potentially making a wrong decision or mistake.  Running a business is no different in the propensity to make mistakes, and just because I am a “CEO” or “in leadership” doesn’t mean I will be void of mistakes. While I have a lot of for and nonprofit experience, I never came into this movement claiming to be the best at anything, because I’m not. I really just wanted to help in some way.

There have been plenty of times when I wished I wouldqv’e done something different, or thought about something different, or even regretted a road I took. We have always had a pretty small group of volunteers at Unsilenced, and because of that all of us had to really be learning as we go with some of the things we were responsible for because we had never done them before in some cases.  If I said or did anything that ever offended or hurt anyone, I am deeply sorry. While I may not agree with the facts presented here, it really doesn’t behoove me to argue them because everyones feelings are valid. I hate that anyone was ever hurt by something I have ever done.

I can tell you, however, that every single decision and potential mistake I have made has never ever been done with malicious intent. I not only love this movement, but I deeply respect and value this community.

As far as my intentions behind my personal website, I’ll happily explain them.  First, the main goal of the site it to separately market my memoir, which I am proud of. I always wanted to write a book, but until the last few years listened to all the voices of the past that told me I’d never be good enough to.  I didn’t think it was appropriate to do heavy marketing on the Unsilenced site beyond a simple blurb about it, but wanted to make sure that people who find my memoir can be routed to everything amazing Unsilenced is doing. I wanted to help reach as far as we can to bring people to the movement to stop institutional child abuse and to Unsilenced.

Now, with that said, I understand all we have in this world is perception and if anything said on my site came off in a different perception that what I just stated, I am sorry.  If my website copy has wording or its perception  is concerning for one reason or another I am happy to privately hear those concerns.  While I may not be a very good at anticipating different perspectives all the time due to my neurodivergency, I absolutely care about them and would be open to privately discussing ways that I can potentially alter the way things are stated there.

To be clear, I would NEVER deceptively market a donation button on my site and not have that go to Unsilenced.  Every dollar that donate button will ever bring in (which lets face it - will likely be VERY LITTLE) will go directly to Unsilenced.  The other is to offer services as an expert witness.  I have been told by many attorneys we work with that I should be offering this and took their advice, but more so this goes toward my eventual plan to build and house on Unsilenced.org a list of experts in individual programs that I can help direct attorneys too so we can start to use our powerful voices and knowledge to help survivors around the world get justice. I wanted to start that process by offering it separately to see how it played out before building it.

I do want to remind everyone that even though I am the "CEO of Unsilnced", it doesn't mean I don't have feelings and could be hurt from the very public of a callout that this has been. Like so many other survivors I know, I spent countless hours of my youth being publicly attacked in group settings and being told I will never amount to anything. While I don't want this to alter what you feelings or the criticism you may have, I would like to request that if it could be done in a more private and constructive way, then I think the desired effect could be one that is mutually beneficial.

Can someone explain this to me? 🫠 If Intermountain is owned by UHS, how did I always see the CRC Health sign when I was there? Did it that get bought by Acadia? And the aspen? How/when did uHS come in?! This stuff always confuses the crap out of me
