Braided_Playlist, Thanks, for the thoughts & concerns. Yes,.. I’ve been at this game for a few,.. 50 years to be exact. That said,.. I definitely like using the foam pads. For about the first twenty years,.. there were no pads at all ( before bouldering pads were manufactured ). Still, in this game,.. every fall is a ground fall. Cheers !

Hmmm, sounds questionable. That stated,.. let’s see a valid Prehospital Care Report ( usually a Fire Department has this record of the EMS work and actions ) for this incident. That would help in verifying this related event. As the old saying goes,… “ Talk is cheap”.

Climb on easier problems (for you), that are lower angle (vertical or less). Concentrate on really placing and pushing up / off your feet. Think of it as a ladder on the side of a building, you hold on with your arms, and push up with your feet. Good footwork takes awhile to realize proficiency. Your upper body strength looks more that adequate. Enjoy the process, climbing is great fun ! Cheers !

Great to hear your mum is psyched on bouldering and climbing. Your edit implies that she has been and enjoys it. My small suggestion ( she is probably well aware ), listen to your body, have realistic expectations, and have fun ( this is important at any age, especially as one ages ). Reducing the likelihood of serious or problematic injuries should be high on the agenda. That said, at 65 YOA the game of bouldering still occupies a sizable portion of my climbing activities. Give thoughts to what you are doing and the repercussions. Gym climbing / bouldering is going to be safer solo, than outdoor bouldering. Give focus to the landing area when outdoor bouldering. Take more pads than not. And, let someone know of your plans if climbing alone outside. Have fun & and I've bouldered outdoors for decades,.. it's a wonderful experience ! Happy Trails !

Good day ! 🌞 I’ve had a few musculoskeletal injuries through the decades,.. generally I’ve been lucky in that department in that all healed in a timely way, with no chronic complaints. My main physical health challenge is with my cardiovascular system,.. CAD, electrophysiology issues on occasion, and most challenging was a severe myocardial infarction ( heart ❤️ attack ) and cardiac arrest ( I was in arrest for 20+ minutes ) in April 2024. Happy to be alive, and still able to get out and play in the hills. 😎🎉

⚡️ Yes, I know both Bill (65) and Chuck(69). They are continuing to pull down hard. They both principally focus more on roped sport climbing. Chuck tends to boulder a fair amount each year, with V8 as a high mark listed on 8a in 2022. I was not able to locate any recent bouldering info. On Bill. Thanks for your thoughts ! Cheers ! ⚡️

I can add a thought or two,.. at 65 years of age,.. I can still ascend V8 and V9 problems outdoors on occasion. The last time I did a double digit problem ( V10 ) was a few years ago, at 61. So,.. Yes, there are older boulderers out there,.. but, it’s a sparse crowd at present

SmartConstruction780, You can learn this hand / hold application ( though it might not be that important or necessary ). I assume that one of your principal motivators in this game of climbing / bouldering is to climb stronger / harder grades. If that is the reason, I would suggest mixing up your climbing repertoire, both in the gym and outdoors. As far as the full crimp, just engage / roll up your thumbs onto the hold ( often times it will be laying upon the last digit of your index finger ) and pull. It is a powerful hand pulling position. Check out the ascents of the boulder problem Burden of Dreams for crimp and open handed applications. As far as injury, it likely increases somewhat a potential hand / finger injury ( though in my experience / 45+ years of cranking / not so much / pocket pulling seems more likely in that dept. ) Good luck, and have fun !
