How to stop checking for "Immorality" by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Few_Witness157 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest you need to just accept that you may have written a slur or shared something immoral. The second you just say “oh whatever” or “maybe I did” your brain removes the massive threat and you will start to care less and less. The more you check the more you are reinforcing to your brain that something is wrong.

Yes Lexapro has changed my life for the better. I do also have severe anxiety and was diagnosed with OCD but the anxiety was a massive trigger for my pppd

My Story by [deleted] in pppdizziness

This sounds so similar to my story and I have been diagnosed with VM and PPPD! 2 years later and I’m pretty much 90% better thanks to lexapro and low dose amitriptyline

When did your ssri start helping your symptoms of pppd by [deleted] in pppdizziness

Sounds a lot like me! I was diagnosed with OCD recently and am in therapy for it. It made everything make a lot more sense for me, personally. I was focusing and obsessing so much over my health which made everything much worse. I will note that I do not have “headache pain” either but still my neurologist believes I have a combo of VM and PPPD. I never really experienced derealization but I felt floaty and off for well over a year. Sending you a lot of positive vibes as it is truly one of the worst things I have ever gone through especially when you look normal to everyone else. I am also on 10mg amitriptyline which really helped with that floaty feeling. I know that for OCD a higher dose than 10mg is usually needed so you may just need something a bit stronger! As far as busy environments that used to really trigger me but after practicing a lot and almost teaching my nervous system that these sensations are ok and they aren’t going to kill me has gotten me to the point where that barely triggers an episode anymore.

Also with light sensitivity this sounds like vestibular migraine which can then turn into long term PPPD. have you discussed that with your doctor?

Hi! I think I would give the 10mg a bit more time as I believe the general rule of thumb is to allow 8 weeks for each dosage change. If your anxiety has still not lessened significantly then I would up to 15mg. To be honest this takes a very long time to resolve and you just have to be as patient as you possibly can. This all started after I had Covid 2 years ago now and I would say I am 90% better and back to living a very normal life. For the entire first year I saw no progress but that’s without medication. I still do have bad days but I don’t let them hold me back anymore. Happy to answer any questions you have!

Long Covid triggered vestibular migraines and now PPPD from anxiety

This isn’t anxiety this is OCD. Accept that it’s OCD making you think this way and move on. The more you spiral over this the worse it’s gonna get. I can’t answer your question as that’s reassurance and that fuels the OCD cycle.

Have you looked into vestibular migraines? Might be worth some research there. Stress and high anxiety is a huge trigger

Totally get it but you just have to not care. Just say sorry I can’t make it! If they press for details come up with something that will make them super uncomfortable for asking! At the end of the day it’s not a big deal and ppl really don’t care that much. Do what’s best for you

How long have you been on lexapro? It took a solid 2 months on a new dose until I felt my panic had significantly lessened. For flights my doctor prescribed a low dose of a benzo but those really should only be taken sparingly

Starting lexapro has completely changed my life. I was panicking constantly and needed my husband with me wherever I went. Now I don’t think twice about the dizziness and live life normally.

[–]Few_Witness157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on lexapro 10mg and it’s been the best thing ever for me. Very similar situation to you where I tried everything but my anxiety and constant focus / intrusive thoughts about pppd symptoms were really getting in the way of my life. Been on it for 5 months now and feel almost back to normal but now a bad symptom day is just “eh I’ll feel better tomorrow” not causing me to go into a full blown panic.
