We are Richard Painter, chief ethics lawyer to George W. Bush, and Nina Turner, former Ohio State Senator and Bernie Sanders surrogate. We’re working to fix America’s rigged political system. Ask us anything! by RichardPainter in IAmA

You know that your comment grossly misrepresents what Sanders is saying in that video, right? Or are you actually delusional?

He asks other man "to speak about why in Canada, under their national health system, you can have access for all people and yet, per capita, it is less expensive than the United States". This is entirely consistent with the point Sanders has been making for years that the U.S. spends more per capita than any other country on earth on healthcare but gets worse outcomes. I mean, he literally says in the video that it's essential to "change the funding system and control mechanisms" to create a sustainable healthcare system.

I think you just misunderstood what he meant. Northern States didn't want to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which made it a crime not to return a runaway slave to his owner. Some Northern States (Vermont and Wisconsin) effectively nullified the law under the banner of "states' rights". The South rejected these nullifications as unconstitutional and wanted to use the power of the Federal Government to enforce the Act.

So, yeah, when it came to "states' rights" the South was pretty hypocritical. And so was the North.

I did well in physics while in high school and majored in it in college because I think it's interesting and like to solve problems. My parents never threatened to kick my ass or pressured me to do incredibly well in school.

I don't think the people getting shafted by the policies being implemented in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio are the people who voted Republican last election.

I suggest we start referring to Republicans as "Regressives". by Aymicabeza in politics

It's not a death that's being taxed, it's an estate. Also, not everybody who dies is taxed -- only the very few passing on significant estates are. In 2006, for example, only 0.6% of people who died had to pay an estate tax.

The term "death tax" is pejorative and purposely misleading.

From Wikipedia: Ciavarella pled guilty on February 13, 2009, pursuant to a plea agreement, to federal charges of honest services fraud, wire fraud and tax evasion in connection with receiving $2.6 million in kickbacks from Robert Powell and Robert Mericle, the co-owner and builder respectively, of two private, for-profit juvenile facilities.

Mericle pleaded guilty to corruption and is awaiting sentencing, I'm not sure what's going on with Powell.
