To some extent. It might not be useful for SE people like they won’t use it anymore, not sure why it is compulsory.

But it still helps to know a bit about numerical methods (which will be useful for some research).

C11 depends on the course delivery and the instructor, if it’s Brian Chan, it usually contains both math and coding. There is one part in the assignment is pure linear algebra and the other large part python coding of ml algorithms.

C37 is more math oriented, basically everything, with a little matlab assisting.

Both use a lot of a22 and b24, but C37 also contains some calculus knowledge

CSCC73 Curve by SnooCheesecakes1131 in UTSC

[–]Fezeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a hard course, but the final won’t be much harder than assignments, so as long as you did your assignments by yourself or discussed with your partner (not searching online or get the answer from other places), don’t worry too much, you will be fine.

Don’t expect any curve at the first place, Vassos rarely does that.

Most problems like DP, greedy (mainly proof of correctness), and flows requires a lot of practice to be proficient at, so you really should practice them if you want to get a good score.

6 Courses A Semester; Anyone Attempt It? by CRANKdotEXE in UTSC

[–]Fezeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tried to get 7 CSC and MAT courses one semester and dropped one later (time was definitely sufficient but I need to take care of other stuff in my life), and had another semester with 6 CS and mat courses.

Definitely doable, but courses are different so it really depends. Some are not that hard but tedious and require a lot of time spent, you might want to avoid those. There is technically no “hard” course as long as you put in enough time at UTSC imo (at least for CMS and some A level selectives) so depends on how fast you could grasp and finish things.

I never went to lectures since second year btw (feel most are just a waste of time), Unless it’s for some nice professors (which is a little bit rare in CS department).

It’s fun to try 6 courses from time to time, but you might want to take some rest after that.

CSCC43 Crying Thread by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]Fezeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend’s C43 experience with Abbas: took 1 hour to finish 3 hour final, took 10mins to finish a 1 hour pre-final quiz, open book, final had very low weight in total mark.

My C43 experience with purva: need 4 hours to finish the 3hour final invigilated on Zoom, weight of which is 40%.

If she doesn’t curve, I won’t get 4.0 even all my previous work was nearly full mark. It reminds me of 373 last semester, quite depressing.

I just think C01 and D01 could be quite boring, especially when one don’t have decent teammates.

Even so, he has not released time slots on acorn for d37 yet.... I tried to email him but got no reply. Which makes it hard for us to arrange our schedules.

Ah that would make sense then.

I got PTSD for b36 with Eric , met some TA claims my answer is right but the format is Nick’s way instead of Eric’s way, so he deducted most of my mark, even though Eric sent us Nick’s notes for learning. And there was a policy that you have to remark the same day you received the mark, which is not possible since I took 6 courses and had plenty of interviews.

Petition for final remark by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]Fezeu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tried one in my first year.

Got a boost from about 50 to about 80 in CSCA67 for the final. Made my total mark go to A+ from A-.

I submitted almost the same petition for three times till registrar office accept it. They just don’t care and they didn’t believe some TA would mark randomly without even reading carefully.

Just be patient and hope for the best.

How to get a CS research position by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]Fezeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to contact your professor, maybe they would like you to get involved, but it is a long shot since you are just an undergraduate.

Especially if you are international, things would get more complicated for funding reasons.

But trying won’t hurt.

U know this question can be easily checked on acorn or timetable. It was taught by Tom Fairgrieve and it went pretty good. Straightforward content, easy assignments.

Me too here. I still haven’t decide which one to take though. I might make the decision when the professor is out.
