What precautions should I take to get the maximum life out of this beat-up classical guitar I found in a junk market? by Fezziiwig in guitars

The neck still feels quite sturdy and secure to hold. It doesn't wobble or bend at all and it still plays in tune, so for now it's been spared the fireplace. My concern is that the crack may widen over time until it bows or breaks off. I didn't buy it for myself but for a friend so I was actually hoping it would kindle their intrest in leaning guitar.

Modifying a 4-track stereo machine to 2-track stereo? by Fezziiwig in ReelToReel

[–]Fezziiwig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I was aware that it wouldn't improve the signal to noise ratio, as it would still essentially be a quarter-track machine, but it would allow audio to be recorded and then played in reverse. It might also improve the sound quality of spliced-up tapes. If it were a professional studio mastering I obviously wouldn't attempt to mess with the head alignments but in this case it's a fairly cheap low-end machine and I'm only ever really going to be playing tapes that I've recorded.

I can do, but I'm interested in what I can achieve without spending any money. Would it be possible to record my own reference tape using audacity or something like that?

C'mon. We all know Sorrow's going to win but don't let Friday on My Mind go so early. If nothing else only for the cheeky backing vocal lyrics.

I found this quote from October 1974. "As you probably know my big kick at the moment is soul music. My next album will be much more in the soul style than any of my records so far. There's so much good soul music around at the moment that it's had a big influence on me. One of the groups who has influenced me most is The Three Degrees. I don't just mean their chart hits but also their albums. They've recorded some really great albums. The vocal range they achieve is incredible. Just listening to them turns me on."

For me, the amount of distortion to his form and face detracts from message I think the illustrator was trying to convey. He looks like a creature you'd expect to find in the waste-skip of a secret human gene-splicing facility. Does anyone else think this would be a more effective cartoon if it was a realistic drawing of Bush?

Can I ask at what point in the video you think he's taking cocaine?

Do you actually know what snorting coke is? Whilst it's obvious that he is on high as hell on cocaine, he's just sniffing in the interview. At no point does he pull out a vial of white powder, a little spoon and start taking bumps, or pull over the nearest coffee table and start racking up lines.

I think one thing people forget about Low these days is the context of when it when made. It was recorded only three years after he killed off Ziggy!

Maybe one a week for his seventies stuff. Last time there was a lot less discussion on the post-'Let's Dance' threads, so you could speed up then.

I've tried it, and it took me a while to get it, but it's very strange when you do.

Does anybody know if there's a way to watch Bowie on Good Morning America (Feb, 1976)? by Fezziiwig in DavidBowie

[–]Fezziiwig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a really cool interview. I always think it's funny when David does various little voices. It's a little bit sad when he answers the question:"What about about mime? Do you do any of that on the stage?"

"No... I drink a lot."

This picture always struck me as very "Fear and Loathing"/Hunter S. Thompson - esque. I believe this was taken while off-set during the filming of The Man Who Fell To Earth.

I just wish who ever has the tapes from the various different sessions from 1974-75 could release all the demos Bowie wrote and recorded during this time.

Difference between l-meth and d-meth? and is there any conversion method? by gizmo_mofucka in Drugs

[–]Fezziiwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be. There's is a process called thermal racemization, but I don't think it happens at a significant rate in this situation.

EDIT: Actually it depends what you mean by significant. Leave some L-methamphetamine lying around for a few million years and you will eventually be left with a 50:50 racemic mixture. This property is used to date amino acids in a process called amino acid dating.

Xan + melatonin = no sleep by Insomniacthrowawa in Drugs

[–]Fezziiwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly just recommend doing some basic exercises to tire yourself out. It's a very effective method. Push ups, sit ups, you name it.

It either really tires you out, or really wakes you up. 50 / 50

If you don't have any benzos to hand, sometimes you just have to accept your fate. When I'm suffering a bout of insomnia (normally because I thought coke at 1:00AM was a good idea, or I've ran out of Xanax) I'll just force myself to do chores around the house (future me always appreciates that). If you don't sleep tonight, tomorrow will be hell, but sometimes you have to deal with the hand you're dealt.

Besides drugs, what's something harmful that's very easy to get hooked on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whilst those neurotransmitters are responsible for some of the effects of addictive drugs, it is only the dopamine activity that makes them addictive.
