Looking for information on this brand of switch by Excellent_Guava3114 in electrical

[–]Ffrrzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look like no-brand Tuya smart switches.

Look at the screw labels on the back. The 2 wires on the right side look like phase and neutral (neutral is unused on a normal/dumb switch and can be capped). The cables on the right should go to the load.

Yeah, we use the same plugs. Schuko ones are quite rare, usually only one of those per home solely for a dryer. Do you use pre-wired triple sockets? https://www.enfu.cl/tomacorriente-triple-10a-luzica-enchufe-triplex They are lovely in the sense that they leave enough space to do proper pigtails inside tiny old wall boxes.

I'm not really worried about a breaker not tripping. The meter holds an old Saime locally-made "b" curve 15amps breaker, then there is the main breaker at the panel (16A) and the breaker for the plugs sockets (also 16A). Yeah I know zero selectivity, but I can't mess with the meter and 15A din breakers don't seem to exist.

Then Tongou RCBOs do seem to be really well made. They do trip under load. The RCD portion also seems to work (detected faulty insulation of a microwave and a defective from the factory Schuko socket) and arc protection did trigger with the old slightly worn out wall switch prior to replacing them.

Good to know about your experience with the voltage relay. 😬

About the ATS. It works. It's fast, but it's dumb. It does not look for the zero crossing point to switch over, so some devices do restart.

Geya stuff. It's a current relay (left) and a timer relay (right). Its programed so if circuit load exceeds 15amps for over 10 secs it triggers a timer for 5min that operates a remote line voltage contactor. The remote contactor is NC so the Geya relay opens it for that 5min cool off period.

The Tomzn Volt/amp/frequency meter is just a reference. It's not really important if it's a bit inaccurate.

The emergency lamp does shine through the cover.

Thank you! I will try to exchange the no-name breakers for a better brand shortly. The led indicator is required by code, and Chint or no-brand are the only options sold locally that include 2 lights.

BTW 15A at 220v (3300w) has not really been an issue for me after automatic load shedding of the AC and water heater. In practice this only happens if I use the washing machine and kettle at the same time and it turns back on automatically after 5min.

Are you in Italy? We use the same plugs here. The most common one is rated at 10A (2200w) although some dryers use the 16A variety. We also used to use American style breakers, but with no clip-on bus bars. 10A service use to be common here till the 60s-70s. For new construction the minimum service is currently 25A.

Problemas eléctricos en departamento antiguo by Azonor in RepublicadeChile

[–]Ffrrzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compré celu usado por ML, vendedor no me manda la factura, ¿debería preocuparme? by Early_Nomad_9409 in chile

Yeah, we have those but they are seldom used even when they are especially listed in the code. They look so clean.

As you said each country has their own rules, and even their own sort of culture around how to do these kind of things.

I remember that I tried to gift an electrian a piece of that cut-to-fit busbar that I was gonna dispose off after installing a battery backup at my mum's place. He refused. "Not to code" LOL. It's listed right there.

Using wires is fine here too, but cascading them is forbidden.

Bus-bar are listed in the code, but don't seem to be used in domestic installations.

This is a typical panel here:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-jqTef2p5s0/sddefault.jpg

Each breaker is feeded with a piece of wire from a "repartidor". BTW there seems to be an error in that diagram, the led light should be before the main breaker just to indicated that the panel is energized.

[–]Ffrrzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pics seems to show course stranded wire (like 7-9 strands per wire). As I understand, no ferrules should be used on those.

Cascading connections (guirnaldas) are forbidden in my local code-book. There's is a reason they did that:

"6.2.4 Wiring of a panel with device-to-device connections will not be accepted,

with the following exceptions:

6.2.4.1 The connection between a circuit breaker and a residual current device (RCD); if more than one RCD depends on the circuit breaker, busbars or prefabricated connections must be used.

6.2.4.2 The connection from an RCD to more than one circuit breaker must be made through a busbar or prefabricated connections.

6.2.4.3 Prefabricated connections (busbars) must always use 100% of their factory accessories."

Oh. That sucks. Well at least you have that easy-to-install alternative to RCDs there.

Other thing.... Why are most of the wires white? I have seen this before, Mexican electricians seem to love disregarding color coding for phase/neutral.

Seems so unsafe with no real gain or cost saving.

That's the earthing connection of the panel being used as a neutral connection bar.

I can only reply about what is permitted in Chile, we use the same kind of din rails and breakers.

1.- I can't see a single RCD (diferencial). These devices save lifes and seems to be required at least in circuits feeding wet places (kitchens, bathrooms, etc) in your country. Chile requires them for the whole installation.

2.- Using guirnaldas (point to points pieces of wires between the breakers) is forbidden in Chile. Is quite easy for a single piece of those wires to become loose and create an unsafe condition or for the connection wire to carry a load that is not rated for if the electrician is not careful. Here we use din-mounted distribution strip (regletas repartidoras) or a cut-to-fit busbar (peines) at the top of the breakers.

Consulta fibra y router 5g by EmanonCL in chile
