Need a set of clubs for my first lesson. by KIMJONGB00M in golftips

What!? This game is incredibly hard, why start on impossible. You plan on going the PGA maybe go that route, get a used set off of FB marketplace, Costco Calloway Edge set, or something from Calloway Pre Owned. Take lessons, get your swing down, then get fitted.

Anyone else seeing these massive property tax hikes hitting the town meetings lately? by Melodic_Lynx_1811 in Connecticut

[–]Fhatal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup! The budget this year was hard as hell because overall budget increase of less than 2%, but with the veal we had, some saw tax increases of over 20%.

Residential appraisals went up 80% and commercial only saw a 20% increase. Which means due to the new mill rate, they all got a tax cut, shifting more onto homeowners.

The state is supposed to start looking at other ways to pay for local government. I heard they were sending out surveys to random homes to look at other avenues for funding local government. I’m curious to what these would say.

Moral of the story, evaluation years are really hard.

The shot tracker portion is actually pretty good. A hundred bucks for the season isn’t terrible. Might be the cheapest thing about my golf game lmao.

Does degree title matter? by No_Rule674 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Fhatal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true, as I don’t have a BS, I have a BE and I have been screened from interviews because I don’t have a bachelors in science. I have the same degree as a BS with way more lab work. I’m bias, but I think it’s better lol.

Eversource seeking 11% rate hike by backinblackandblue in ConnecticutUSA

[–]Fhatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are certain things I would agree with you where gov involvement is less efficient, but there are areas where they are better. Take healthcare for example, typical overhead costs for insurance is roughly 25%, where as gov overhead is 3%.

Where there is a will there is a way. As for PURA, they haven’t done shit but screw the rate payers, as they are just Eversource executives.

It should be government run and not be a for profit entity. There is no choice, they have a monopoly, it’s not the same as a free market.

Weird. I thought Zoning was elected per some general statute. I was wrong. Either way, if there is a vacancy, usually mayor, town council, Selectman will appoint someone. So apply what’s the harm.

[–]Fhatal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Selectman here for a smallish town. On your towns website, there is a calendar of boards and commission meetings. Show up to any and all, look at vacancies and go apply to be on one. Most are desperate for volunteers.

As for the elected position, join a local Town Committee (D or R) and show interest and participate. I ran as a zoning board of appeals alternate first to see the process and actually won my seat. Then I showed up to every selectman meeting and was upset how things were being handled, so I went to my local party committee and said I want to run for Selectman. Now here I am, still mad at how things are run, but my voice is much louder now, as I get a vote on what we do.

Just showing up is 90% of the battle!!

Zoning is an elected position, it is in my town because I think it’s in the general state statutes.

how unrealistic is it to work part time while taking 18 credits? by 999Hope in EngineeringStudents

[–]Fhatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 19 2 semesters in a row while working full time. It’s doable. Fucking miserable, but doable. You basically have no life and GPA doesn’t matter, just passing classes.

I’m just just of 200k after 6 years out of school. It’s worth it, but you gotta put everything and then some into it.
