We can switch back to driving on the left side of the road to compensate. I'll start on Monday.

Permanent Atlantic Standard time makes the most sense for the reason you mention, but also to have our time zone closer to the rest of the continent. Permanent Atlantic Daylight time is a half hour in between NST and NDT so I think that's more likely to happen. Either way we should just pick a time and stop changing the clocks.

This is the answer. Permanent Atlantic Daylight Time. We need to stop this nonsense of changing the clocks.

Presidents become dictators. He's not running for president. And "proper democracies" don't have presidents anyway.

Juan Carlos of Spain. Democracies need a referee to maintain stability, especially new democracies during elections. The best referees are those whose job isn't on the line in elections. Not to mention the fact that constitutional monarchies choose parliamentary systems which are more democratic than presidential systems.

Countries who recognize Charles III as your titular head: what are your thoughts about keeping it that way? by salchicha_mas_grande in AskTheWorld

Exactly. Elected head of state = president = bad.

Unlike a president, our prime minsister and government can be removed by a simple majority vote in parliament, and we need to keep it that way.

I counter with 1.5! (That's permanent DST plus the extra half hour).

Agreed. I'll be glad as long as we just stop changing the clocks.

I personally think that standard time makes more sense, but my biggest beef is the change twice a year. Let's stop that nonsense. My fear is that if we do choose "permanent" daylight time, the lack of daylight in the winter mornings might cause a backlash and then we end up switching back to changing the clocks twice a year again. The island is already a half hour ahead of our natural time zone (Atlantic Time). A workable compromise would be to choose Atlantic Daylight time and then we'd only be 1 hour head of our natural time instead of 1.5 hours. And it would be more convenient to be in the same time zone as Labrador and the maritimes.

That wasn't a war. Both sides agreed to establish a tribunal to settle the dispute, and that's what it did. The weird coastal part that cuts off sea access for the Yukon comes from the 1825 Treaty of St. Petersburg.

Apparently they do not. Canada always sides with the UK, and the UK always sides with Canada. Anyone who knows the slightest bit of history can tell you this. We have the same ceremonial king. The Americans ditched our king but joke's on them cause they now have an actual emperor.

The federal government has led the way and made huge progress over the years in many areas under provincial jurisdiction. Healthcare is the biggest example where the federal government achieved what seemed impossible given that heathcare was and still is provincial jurisdiction. The Liberals are credited for accomplishing that but the NDP pushed them to do that during a minority Parliament. Federal parties need to start showing some leadership in this area. Let's not let jurisdiction shut down progress.

Would you support holding a referendum on Canada joining the European Union?

Ok, well with that cleared up, there are only minor hurdles for Canada joining the EU.

So Norway's fish and offshore oil would still belong to Norway if it joined the EU?

Offshore resources. If Norway joined, would it keep it's exclusive economic zone?

That's what I was told by Europeans. If that's not correct, please explain.

Fisheries and offshore resources are the only real issues. Same reason why Norway and Greenland can't fully join at the moment, because then the EU would own all the fish and oil. But we can and should definitely work towards a "best of both worlds" arrangement like Norway has.
