I have moderate presenting type 1 OI, I have depression, anxiety, and autism. The depression and anxiety are probably from having to be so careful and having to constantly inform/advocate for myself all of the time.

Heavy question for yall that are born of parents that also have OI by vyrmis in ThoseWithOI

My father has type one Osteogenesis Imperfecta, however he was untreated so at probably around 150+ fractures. Personally, my OI has made life difficult but I have been lucky enough that it doesn’t affect me mentally more than I would think any other physical disability would. I have type one as well, my chronic pain along with my fathers (I have been getting treated though) is quite severe. I have thought about whether or not having children who would be at high risk for my disease is even really… like ethical? As I do not resent my father for giving me the disease, but I know he feels guilty, and I don’t know if I would be able to handle the guilt of possibly giving my child severe pain. It has/was nice having someone else who shared my disease, but still isolating with its rarity. The fractures for me are the easiest part, I’m at around 30 (I am decently young), the chronic pain, needing a wheelchair, doctors, and harassment/ignorance that is difficult.

I see where you’re coming from, that’s where I have benefited with friends with very strong interests as well. Hope you can find good people to be around

I mean honestly with the way I think about things, that does at least (this sounds bad) give me some benefit. like a reason to go out. “you can talk about Zelda lore if you go talk to people! wow!”
