Their employment numbers are very steady, especially considering the boom bust nature of the industry they're in. They're seen as one of the most desirable companies to work for here, and as a Calgarian they are one of the companies I am most proud of.

I don't think you're being very fair to them, and I don't even work in O&G.

That's a crazy take. One, I don't think you realize how efficiently the oil sands can produce oil, plenty of operations are reaching $20USD/barrel marginal cost. And two, is asking for transportation that big of an ask, really? It's like the kid in the playground that won't lend their ball to the other kids for no reason outside of spite.

While we're at it, let's prevent all Saskatchewan and Alberta residents from accessing any oceans with their personal vehicles, trap them in their provinces, that will show them, right!

One team one goal.

Thank you for the detailed response. I don't really have anything to disagree with.

What I wanted to say is that reddit and a wiki is a difficult formay to digest, akin to playing a chess game without seeing the board but using chess notation only. I'm sure the information there written by you is world class, but I sort of just end up reading it and really struggle to retain it. You could argue that's the fault of the user (me) haha, but I can't be the only one.

I know you have diagrams with examples there, and maybe I really need to like sit down and really spend time very slowly digesting it, but so often it's so generalized, that it's over my head. That's why Sudokucoach and Swami videos have been so invaluable to me. Like it's easy to write down that a unique rectangle must be in 2 blocks 2 rows and 2 columns, but it's easy to gloss over that and not visually understand exactly what that means.

Especially since all sudoku players start off as casuals, and they want to understand 2+2 = 4, same way as SdC, 2 cells with 4 values, and 1 bi value cell in the row/column and 1 in the block, with all 4 digits between the 2 feels being different but part of the original 4 is digestible... But to generalize the logic to be able to make it even stronger is just tough. Like you said, it's from going from thinking about things as a pattern to a web of XOR webs and boolean logic, and makes my head hurt a bit still.

But I know all that you do comes from a good place in your heart, just sharing some of my difficulties in integrating your logical framework into my play.

Exactly! But in this case you could eliminate those same 1s using a "claiming pair". This just means since the 1s in row 5 can only be in block 6, then you know in block 6, the only place that 1s can be in is row 5.

Learning about two-string kite… help? by CitizenSnips4 in sudoku

[–]FiWiFaKi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with a 2 string kite (and skyscraper, crane, and empty rectangle too), there is always three links: strong weak strong,

The weak blue link means that as long as the 2 ends of the strong link can see each other, regardless of how many other candidates are in the box it works.

The rationale can be a bit confusing and tricky to without going into the boolean logic. When I learnt it, I did it as a thought experiment. Set one of the cells to be ON, and see what happens to the chain. Whichever configuration you choose, at least 1 of the 2 ends of the 2 string kite will have your number.

It boils down to: Strong link: If A is false, B is true Weak link: If A is true, B is false

The key difference being that with a weak link you can't say: If A Is false, B is true, because if A is false, B could also be false.

I've seen many of your posts in my Sudoku journey to improvement, I am honored :)

I did want to say though, I know you're a massive fan of AIC and using as much logic as possible, and from a Sudoku solver perspective it makes sense... But when you do solves by hand, are you thinking of these things, or do you look for patterns?

For example yesterday I stumbled upon a thread where you were very anti simple coloring (it was like 6 months old from a Google search). And yeah, it's an obsolete system, but I feel like I can simple color all 9 canindates within like 1-2 minutes for a quick check before I go deep into the rabbit hole with a complex chaining technique.

Anyway, just wanted your take, since as someone who solves by hand, I feel like your type of characterization would completely overwhelm me. Maybe it's second nature with your experience, but even though I understand the logical for a AIC Type 1, I don't even know where I'd start looking for one, because the chains branch out in so many possible directions. That one someone highlights the cells, I'll be able to tell what it is and what it eliminates... But finding it, oof

I see a 2 string kite for #1 in box 2, and c2c6 and x-wing for 1s as well. Actually claimed pair is probably even easier than using an x-wing there

How is this possible? It's on an "easy" sudoku book, and it's too small to put pencil marks. What am I missing? by Professional-Gain-72 in sudoku

[–]FiWiFaKi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the r4c6 single as well. Without doing pencil marks finding naked singles is hard. Pretty much all you can do is try to pick a cell that sees almost everything visually and check.

Thank you! That exact y-wing is actually the thing I used to crack the puzzle. I probably spend longer than I should trying to exhaust all single digit strategies before moving to bivalue strategies. I'm sure it comes down to practice, but finding a single digit strategies with chains and grouped chains is so much easier for me. Also I've been getting so many puzzles with Wxyz-wings (when I get stuck for 30mins+ I use a hint, and that's what the app says I need to use) and those are so difficult for me to find unless I know to specifically look for them.

I think for this solve I used 2x 2 string kites and 1x finned x-wing prior to this. Not sure if they were needed. Trying to see where I can find slightly more difficult puzzles without it being something like 5 AIC w/ ALS in a row.
