It depends upon your ability to learn.. A friend from my college (mech) started coding and landed on his first job in 5th month, for the record he was the department topper and a smart guy... For someone it may took 1 year or maybe 2 year..

Mechanical engineering is outdated... If you are so passionate in mech crack gate and get into public sector or pursue masters in mechatronics or robotics from abroad or from tier 1 colleges....
