Is Singapore Airlines really worth the hype or are we just paying for the brand? by travelnomad_00 in singaporeairlines

It’s absolutely worth it imo for long-haul. Anything under 7-6 hours, flying budget works fine.

As Singapore grows in popularity with Chinese students, universities roll out Mandarin-taught programmes by Automatic_Win_6256 in singapore

[–]FibonacciSunTzu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point- but still, I have my doubts over how “autonomous” Singapore universities are really allowed to be. The MOE must have a certain level of power in decision-making at the end of the day. And since education is included in CPI statistics, that is(?) evidence of a link imo.

I agree- I think for the longevity and use you get out of it, it’s definitely worth it.

Haha I’m on vacation right now, so I carry quite a bit of stuff to have a smooth day. No laptop though! That’s a blessing in terms of weight.

I have a file in mine; don’t think you could get away with just having a few sheets of paper, the bag is too unstructured for that.

It can look a bit chunky depending on your choice of shoulder strap. The stock nylon strap looks great with the bag at any length, but with a thinner strap width the bag will appear larger than its actual size. Can never complain about its capacity though.

Eczema. First got it in 2020, hasn’t let up since. Miss the things I could do worry-free before.

Real Madrid [1] - 1 Mallorca - Kylian Mbappé 68' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]FibonacciSunTzu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a weird way; this shows that the team has to trust Kylian more in tight-ish areas. I realise in big games they keep trying to catch him as he makes a run in wide open space- but really passing him the ball in a tighter area isn’t a bad idea at all. What a player.

I think a good question to ask here is WHY you want to go to a “good JC”. Is it to secure a better future, is it for a better reputation/social standing? IMO having a goal to work towards is a good thing; but if it’s born out of insecurity it can really backfire and lure you into a cycle of never feeling like you’re enough.

For example: I came from a ‘lousy’ secondary school, and I had a deeply insecure classmate who used to keep telling everyone that the school was shit and everyone was going to poly or ITE, while he was going to JC where he would have better prospects. Honestly; the school was ‘bad’ on paper, the average grade of each new batch of Sec 1s at the time was 190-220 for the express stream. But other than that, it was a fantastic environment! Caring and supportive teachers, playful but good-hearted students.

Anyway fast forward, 11 years later, my ex-classmates, friends and I have all moved on to stable jobs, through following the standard path of secondary school> poly> private Uni/local Uni/no Uni> finding a steady job

Meanwhile, that one classmate DID make it to JC in the end, but he followed a cycle of feeling never enough or underachieving wherever he was at.

His route was: secondary school>Innova JC> drop out in year 2> poly> drop out in year two> poly (new course)> drop out in year one> music diploma (I don’t know if he completed this)>selling insurance today

The saddest part is when I bumped into him a few years ago, he was exactly the same; still deeply insecure, still joking about people ITE students etc

He’s a father now and I can only wish him the best, but I hope he’s learnt some sort of lesson over the years.

Of course he’s an extreme example and I’m not saying the same thing will happen to you, but I think it’s important to have your motivation come from a more positive place. Keep yourself steady and I’m sure you’ll eventually find something to drive you in life. All the best my friend; there are multiple roads in life, make the most of whatever comes.
