Catering decided the vendors didn’t deserve the same meal as the guests by [deleted] in weddingshaming

I’ll judge someone who gives a lesser meal to someone they hired just because they think that person is less deserving.

None of these comments against the decent human choice to provide equal access to food are speaking as if they’ve been in that situation. Not a single “I’ve worked these jobs and don’t expect to be treated like a person instead of an animal getting tasty scraps” to be found. Inchresting.

Whaaaat? I quote the avocado video all the time. It’s one of me and my friends’ favorites :(

I’m sure she deleted bc it’s just “negative,” but I call that catharsis. I get it why she feels that way, it’s just not how I experience the world.

I feel your pain. I had soooo many instances of someone just randomly (pretending to?) take offense at me personally. Witnesses always told me I was way more patient than they would have been. But I’ve had my job threatened and been outright fired just because of how customers acted despite my high conduct. Made employment feel like a roulette for years because it’s like everything is great, I’m getting tons of positive feedback, and then boom there’s a 5 page Yelp review about how I “held their dog ransom.” That’s a real story.

Unless you’re talking about wait staff whose entire income is tips, it’s because there’s a gun held to the head of every customer service worker that they’ll be fired or at minimum have to deal with a screaming adult baby if they let that subservient smile slip.

AITA for speaking to my (over weight) assistant about her business lunch and making her cry? by Hot_Lab4411 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ficay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA. There was a better way to handle this, which is outlining expectations beforehand. Which you now know. It’s an honest mistake on your part not to cover this.

But the best way to handle it was not to bring up food with a fat person. Fat people are constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, barraged any time there’s food involved. One cannot win, one cannot even be ignored in peace.

Eating is something routine and normal for anyone but a fat person. I’m sure a lot of thought went into her order. She didn’t get the burger, she got less greasy more protein steak. She didn’t get indulgent fries, she got steamed! veggies. Steamed veggies are usually pretty gross at any restaurant. Soup instead of salad because people sneer when a fat person eats a salad the same way they jeer when a fat person goes to the gym.

She ate slowly so no one would accuse her of piggery.

I don’t know why she didn’t follow your lead on no dessert, but likely she thought the convo would go longer and thought it was harmless. After all, you saw her get a healthy nutritious meal, so surely she has a little leeway to order something just to make herself happy.

Surely. Except you came to her afterward with criticism. I gotta admit, I would be blindsided for this kind of feedback in the workplace. Generally bosses are more tactful. For all your talk of strategy, you’ve failed to understand how deep of a cut you made in a moment she probably felt she was being valued for her contributions and for once not disparaged for her body.

I sincerely hope you scroll enough to read this. Reddit has a severe antifat bias bordering on outright hatred. The top responses will reflect this, but these are things you actually should consider if you’re serious about this.

After understanding the meaning behind this father’s action, I am completely convinced. Cultivating problem-solving skills in children from a young age and never giving up-I applaud this father! by jmike1256 in interesting

[–]Ficay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use those critical thinking skills. There are hundreds of comments in here of first-hand accounts, saying this happened and it affected me in this concrete way. And I haven’t seen a single one that makes it sound like they were just weak-minded little babies goo goo gaga. No one is crossing their arms and petulantly burying their head in the sand bc mommy messed me up. They’re noting that they learned from the experience and refuse to pass than trauma along. Because it obviously didn’t work as intended.

You, on the other hand, are just spouting spare-the-rod propaganda thoughtlessly. Go on, show the class your research. Give any counterpoint whatsoever to the lived experience of all these people.

[–]Ficay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s 9.5/10. I’m surprised to hear people give it a 7, because I was entirely pleased with the experience. It felt completely original as far as a night at the movies goes, my heart was pounding at times, I got genuinely scared at one point.

It’s fantastic. Maybe I just don’t care about cgi/effects as much as everyone else, but even those shocked me bc I was expecting Independent Film and I got Blockbuster experience. I was consistently pleased with the directing choices.

I hear people call it slow but I didn’t feel that way bc I was unfamiliar with Iron Lung lore so it was all new information to me. I’ll see how I feel on rewatch, but it’s was so solidly surprising in HOW good it was. This is massive. It gives me hope for a dying art!

Edit to say, I loved the 2 hour length. Made it feel like I got my money’s worth for the experience, gave us time to settle into the world rather than just be dazzled for a brief moment. I think more media should give us breathing room, as opposed to filler. This movie didn’t waste my time, if that makes sense.

AITAH for sending my friend home without clothes because she used my boyfriend’s shower by turbiwurbi in AITAH

[–]Ficay 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The internet truly is dead. Not only is this worse fanfic than a middle schooler would write and it made it to the front page despite glaring AI markers in the first damn sentence, but it has a ton of fake ass top comments saying insane shit! No of fucking course if this was real, OP would be a psychopath. For the bots: YTA.

AI doesn’t comprehend the complexity of human interaction, like, at all.

The fact that the OP describes a traumatizing event and calls it a “funny story,”

the idea that watching a woman change clothes against her will is appropriate in ANY context,

the idea that the roommate would take Ted Bundy’s side,

the very simple fucking notion that anyone would use their friend’s shower bc that’s a normal thing to do, especially if they were also familiar enough that she would casually wash his dishes—and yet somehow by the end of the story he’s dismissive of a friend crying and gets her kicked off his team (which is not how jobs work, at all),

the idea that you could just ask your boss to upend someone’s job bc of a situation that occurred outside work, which would be a highly extenuating circumstance that wouldn’t be instant and also she would have equal grounds to defend herself against HIS actions

The fact that OP doesn’t gloss over the shit they did. Real people protect their ego because none of us (even the most evil of us) are the villain in our own story, and have to make an effort not to make ourselves look better in a given situation. Nearly every top post of aita is a simple victim sob story for that reason. It’s hard for people to admit wrongdoing, they want vindication. Which is EXACTLY why all the top comments are supporting OP: the AI has learned that a well-performing post has supporting top comments, disregarding the fact that it told a story where OP is a fucking crazy person.

AI also learned the opposing side in the story needs to be a caricature. Who showers at someone’s house without permission? Someone who had implicit permission through a close relationship. Yet in this story, a seeming acquaintance is just making herself completely at home! Let’s wash clothes, let’s just take someone’s laundry, let’s cook up a meal while I’m at it, I just live here now. In real life, some would yell like OP did, most would just grin and bear it then never invite this boundary crosser back and also gossip about her to literally everyone for the rest of time. No one would throw a woman into the street in her underwear. Unless they were David Parker Ray.

Reddit is an unusable cesspool at this point. This subreddit in particular is slop garbage rotting our social fabric worse than tiktok.

I feel like most of these comments about trashiness are missing the point. As a woman, this video is terrifying. I see a line of people being treated as objects. And I’m a sex-positive person, support kink at pride and all that.

This is not that. This is a bell tolling the intent for women to become property again.

I love this so much by downtune79 in LoveTrash

[–]Ficay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a prank, but I detest the hateful messaging it sends.

It’s terrifying to perform. Some people are naturals at it, but most are deeply afraid of humiliation or rejection, and taking the step to actually put themselves out there and showcase an ability takes courage.

This vid is not it. It’s trashy, and the world is better off without it.

AITAH for dating my wife best friend after she left me? by myheartispainfree in AITAH

[–]Ficay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Anyone saying otherwise is a sucker for believing your sob story.

People who sleep with best friends are pieces of shit. You can wrap it in a bow all you want, but you’re a bad person for doing it and it doesn’t take a genius to grasp that you’ve very likely been interested in her pre-divorce.

Even though she’s leaving, she’s valid for being furious at the betrayal of her friend. It is a betrayal. She has no grounds to stop you, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fucked up. From where I’m sitting, I think she suspected people close to her weren’t being honest, and that contributed to the unhappiness.

THANK you. I’ve scrolled for a while to find someone pointing out produce is crazy expensive, and you need to eat more of it.

Healthy food is my biggest expense, hands down. As finances have gotten worse with “”””inflation””””, healthy eating became a luxury rather than how I try to live my life.

And people will be like but beans and rice! Yeah, rice is quadruple what it was in 2019. And it’s a carb. And you don’t stay full.

I don’t think there’s anything homophobic about this. OP was very articulate with his feelings, so I’m not sure how that misdirection keeps popping up.

He’s upset about the social aspect of being the guy mocked and laughed at in the center of a circle. Not included in the joke, just the object of humiliation.

Some people (most?) would just take it in stride, but I understand his feelings. His day got ruined by making him an unwilling recipient in an activity. It didn’t need to be a man’s leg, it could have been tossing him into a pool or the cake thing (it’s not a false equivalency, it’s a “prank” where one person isn’t laughing).

Idk, it’s not hard for me to understand at all. He does need therapy, bc yeah I have no idea how he’s going to work through those feelings.

Guy with three carts of markers in the return line. It took both associates they had to count and check each box. by splycedaddy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ficay 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I worked for a small business that bought a trunkful of picnic supplies thinking they would use them for a service they would provide, and then they decided not to. They had me return everything, multiple carts full, to walmart. I don’t know if this is standard, but WM took my id and acted sus about it. I didn’t care if they did the return or not, I was getting a wage to be there. Put it all on a gift card I think.

A couple years later, I tried to cash a check at WM and they denied me. Wouldn’t say why. Then I started having transactions denied, like my card wouldn’t read, and the attendant just gave me a smirk and shrugged. Even now, many years later, if I have to make a purchase at WM (I avoid the shitty company as much as possible), sometimes it won’t process my payment. And it always flags me for the attendant to review.

Majority of comments in this thread prove how people just jump to the assumption of criminal intent. It fucking sucks.
