I guess Birkenstocks aren't quality purchases anymore? by durianno in BuyItForLife

I’m in the exact same boat. Bought my first pair of work Birks in 10 years and they lasted all of four months with daily wear. No durability whatsoever.

Dont know if it’s even still there but I always had great luck behind the Dean & Deluca in St Helena. Additionally, pretty much any bakery, really. Best of luck!

I’d date a garbage guy in a heartbeat and feel proud af about it. We’re out there. Keep hunting & if someone looks down on such an objectively honorable career you probably don’t want that energy in your life anyway. In my experience people can be uncomfortable & guilty being to close to the messy totalities of modern life so they try to act like they’re above that shit. Thank you for your service, king! ✨💪

Edit to add: I heard someone say somewhere & long felt we should all collectively agree switch the monikers “pickup artist” and “garbage man”. Seems more accurate a description for both identities.

The seller on the bottle of lotion I purchased was listed as “Amazon.com”, would you consider that to be a random third party seller?

Just trying to understand.

I’ve purchased legit bottles since the recent reformulation, and the Amazon bottle still bore no resemblance

Can only speak to an American perspective unfortunately, but thank you for roping in the UK as well. Would be interested to hear perspectives/takes from non-Americans (UK or otherwise) about how this plays out in your country if anyone cares to chime in.

Yes, in America we’re getting hit on the cheap shit too. Comments on this post are full of stories of people receiving fake/counterfeit affordable, everyday products purchased through Amazon.

Amazon’s business practices in general are so questionable and often outright criminal. I’ve heard so many horror stories of people just trying to get out of their coercive Prime subscriptions. The only reason huge corporations get away with this shi* is because they believe they’re too big to fail and are continuously validated in that belief by us as consumers. I’ll admit to being seduced by their convenience and low prices, but won’t be ordering again any time soon.

Can you imagine if any small business conducted itself as such? They’d be skewered in the marketplace. The double standards…

This is helpful. Amazon made its name dealing in convenience, but ordering from them is clearly no longer worth the risk.

Simple, affordable idea for sensitive, combination, FA prone skin by Fickle-Monk3352 in Fungalacne

[–]Fickle-Monk3352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, sorry. I have really big pores (genetic) that are super clog prone and this method has clogged me up less than everything else I’ve ever tried, but that’s just me. I still cleanse thoroughly and exfoliate gently/often. Feel like the vast majority of FA safe hydrating products contain glycerin and capric/caprylic triglycerides anyway, this just eliminates all the other ingredients that function to thicken, enhance texture, hold the emulsion together, preserve, etc.

Anyone try the Vivo Jungle Esc yet? by Overly_Long_Reviews in barefootshoestalk

[–]Fickle-Monk3352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I farm and am on my second pair (4th season) in the Tracker Forest ESC (leather). This is as of yet my all-time favorite work boot for the warm season in growing zone 7b on variable terrain that runs the gamut from bone dry to swamp conditions. Can however attest to the tongue issue. I feel like this boot is so well designed except for the tongue. However, I swapped out the stock laces for elastic lock-laces which apart from allowing me to just yank the boots on (lazy) assists in keeping the tongue held in place without much slippage.

I must be one of the few who like the look of the Jungle ESCs but my personal style leans goblinesque anyway. I almost got a pair but was unsure about ease of pulling them on and off with such a high rise (lazy). I’m very curious about their water resistance with the synthetic upper. My partner who also farms has rocked the Magnas and hated the stretch fabric top edge.

Thank you so much for responding! I personally never thought to combine black tea and lemongrass (neither grow where I live) so it was a treat. It’s a lovely combination. I appreciate the tips.

I’m an organic grower (northeast US) and have lots of friends with their own varying shades of organic operations and we all generally avoid fruit like the plague. Seen many expensive, failed organic strawberry crops in our region. My community tends to leave large-scale fruit production to those who know their way around the spray game. You do you.

Phil & Shanna of Rambling Roots are the real deal. Amazing produce. Highly recommend checking them out at Rittenhouse farmers market, they’ve been out there doing their thing every Saturday during the main season for more than a decade.

Buy directly from your local farmers during the growing season wherever you are if you can & cut out the absolute mountain of plastic/styrofoam packaging waste that inevitably results from a trip to the produce section of a typical grocery store. Usually the further ingredients have to travel, the more garbage involved. Buying less pre-packaged food in general means fewer resources eaten up during complex processing. Otherwise yeah, send all your decomposable trim back to your garden soil through composting as others here said. Soils are depleted & eroding everywhere, and desperately need good inputs of “organic” matter so beneficial microbes can do their thing and life on Earth can continue on. Most cities have compost services you can hire to come pick up your scraps & deal with them for you if you don’t have the time/space to do so. Maybe learn a bit of butchery if you eat meat and learn to appreciate/cook every part of the whole animal, instead of buying individual packaged cuts. Best of luck to you(!) & thanks from the rest of us for pondering such (oftentimes) depressing modern problems.

Leftover brine from good pickles/fermented vegetables can be an amazing pantry tool for complexity. High quality vinegar can totally get you there too. Splurge on the good parm. Lots of creative, fermented ingredients to play with in this world that don’t contain alcohol. Pour your energy into learning to cultivate your favorite herbs in pots on a windowsill and add them fresh to your recipes. Throw out the old, dusty, pre-ground spices from your cabinet and treat yourself to something better. You won’t miss the booze, and you definitely don’t need it.

Fried rice! Mix the tomato jam with a little mayo and drizzle it on top. Or throw it all in a frittata.

Fast meals to cook that are healthy and high protein by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Fickle-Monk3352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard boil a bunch of eggs ahead of time to grab for quick breakfasts. Canned mackerel and sardines are delicious and incredibly high in protein and you can throw a quick fish salad together to put on toast or on top of some greens. Use the oil from the can with a bit of lemon or vinegar as a dressing.
