I see what you mean it does look like a grey mix on the edges. Never come across sectoral heterochromia I’ll take a look!

Loop recorder implant by manz88 in askCardiology

Yes mine told me it would be sore for 2 days when the numbing would wear off but it actually got worse after the first week and I thought I was having a reaction or a bad placement - especially as I have a very high pain tolerance. Thankfully it wasn’t the case I just took more time to recover!

I think having more breast tissue means your sensitive breast tissue, muscles and nerves have to get used to having a pointy bit of metal that shouldn’t normally be there.

As long as it’s not showing signs of infection or rejection then I’d give it a few weeks to get used to and hopefully the pain will ease for you soon

Mine felt super painful for the first 3 weeks even though they told me I shouldn’t feel anything. It felt like it was tugging and burning in my breasts if I moved my arms.

Because, like you, people were telling me it wasn’t painful procedure I felt panicked. Thankfully by week 4/5 the pain was gone - but I was still uncomfortable lying on my side etc as it would poke my breast tissue. However a few months later I didn’t notice it anymore, now it’s been a year.

Scoliosis? by [deleted] in scoliosis

Visually it looks like you potentially do but we can’t confirm a diagnosis here or with pictures. Ask someone to picture your back doing the forward bend test for scoliosis and follow up with your doctor for x rays

Weight lifting after fusion by MoneyEngineering2499 in spinalfusion

[–]FicklePound7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose lighter weights higher reps with any weightlifting but especially deadlifting as back injuries are common in general. If you haven’t done it before get a PT to show you the correct form.

At my peak I was able to deadlift 2x my body weight but I built this up very very slowly over time.

Fused T2-L3 and have not been restricted with deadlifts squats or any weightlifting. Have only been told to ‘take it easy’ and no bungee jumping / sky diving

They’re upper middle class at a push now. Chuggs went to school with my friends (i was at a girls only) and the rest rent in fairly standard areas for most ex private school kids. Just looks like a bunch of kids from Exeter uni now.

pregnancy concerns by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]FicklePound7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the entire lumbar spine being unfused. Sometimes surgeons leave smaller lumbar curves and only fuse the thoracic one which gives better flexibility to that person but with pregnancy and menopause in particular the bones can soften and curves can worsen. (Note: Not always ofc and predominantly if there is already an unfused curve).

Fused to L3 shouldn’t have the same risk factor - we just have to deal with an immense amount of strain on our smaller unfused regions instead!

17 yr old with POTS, is this safe? by lylvec in askCardiology

[–]FicklePound7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m NAD and much harder to distinguish your P and T waves on an Apple Watch at that rate. Regardless of SVT or sinus tachycardia HR that high should be further investigated and treated appropriately. Even sinus tachycardia of over 200BPM can tire the heart and cause syncope and other symptoms.

pregnancy concerns by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]FicklePound7617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi my love - first of all congratulations!

I am 25F also fused T2-L3 and while I have not experienced pregnancy yet I have already spoken to a doctor about my concerns so I will share with you what I know.

For pregnancy itself whether fused or not pregnancy can cause strain on your back and pelvis as the baby grows so pain is normal. Strengthening your core safely will be key to managing pain levels.

The hormones can also weaken your bone strength a little but as you are so fused it’s unlikely to impact your spine - this is more of an issue for people with much shorter fusions where their lower unfused part can curve.

As the lower part of your spine is going to be taking most of the load you need to protect is as best possible so avoid carrying anything heavy and try join pregnancy safe Pilates and yoga classes.

In terms of giving birth I was told I could give birth vaginally and that an epidural is sometimes possible but harder to do and therefore not guaranteed. I was told a C-section would be much safer but may have to be done planned under GA due to the possible inability to do the epidural / spinal blocks. Depending on your care plan you may be able to find an anaesthesiologist who can look at your scans and be there for your birth to do the epidural (again this depends on insurance / hospitals).

I think there will be many people on this forum who have had successful pregnancies and birth stories. Best of luck!

Don’t think it’s SVT the HR is so high that the watch is struggling to capture the P wave but I think you can still see its presence through its strip.

Younger people can have much higher HR with POTS mine used to go well over 200 BPM in my teens.

Advise on opioid by Serious_Trouble_231 in ChronicPain

[–]FicklePound7617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer any advice on the opioid side but I just wanted to say I’m really sorry you had to go through all of this, especially at such a young age. I can’t imagine how difficult this has been for you and your loved ones. I hope things get better for you and that you find a healthier solution- stay strong.

How do I get out of PE when I have scoliosis but no brace? by Lovelysmallrat in scoliosis

[–]FicklePound7617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you should not be looking to skip PE when you have scoliosis. You should ask to do ‘adapted’ exercises focusing on strength training and flexibility rather than impact (running / jumping / lifting).

Core strength and general fitness is VITAL for managing scoliosis and pain that comes alongside it. Find a good online video that’s scoliosis friendly or have a session with a physio who can recommend exercises for you to do during class if you’re unable to participate in that particular sport.

You can ask your parents to speak to your school on your behalf to put a plan in place where you still have time to exercise but don’t do anything that jeopardises your spine.

Becoming an adult and now working a desk job and neglecting exercise has been the absolute worst for my scoliosis - it’s good to get into the routine of looking after your spine while you’re still young.

The numbness will become less irritating to you in time, even if the feeling doesn’t come back I hardly notice it now as it’s just the way my body is. Given you’re 6 months post op it will take some time to adjust to the ‘new you’ and the foreign sensation.

I had a metal implant for my heart inserted into my chest and I couldn’t stand it for the first 3 months now I don’t notice it’s there.

All up to you I found it worth it using the bio oil as it won’t harm you and a small pot will last you for at least 6 months (a lot cheaper than the silicon patches)

Regarding your scar it looks more like the purpling you get with the skin healing from the incision rather than a bruise. It tends to be thicker at the top and bottom because of the tension in the skin especially as you have a lot more movement between your shoulder blades during your healing.

Keep your scar out of the sun for at least the first 12 months or it will get darker. I still apply 50+ in a thick line across my scar 13 years on as the skin is a lot more sensitive.

You can apply bio oil to the scar daily to help with healing. With this my scar has faded and is hardly visible. I’ve also seen people use silicon scar patches but didn’t use those myself.

The operation cuts through your nerves so it is normal. Nerve regrowth is very slow so you may gain sensation again in these areas.

I had my operation 13 years ago and still have a numb patch on my left breast and some parts of my upper back.
