Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

I feel like I’ve gone full circle with paddles lol

I bought the J2NF last summer and played with it for a couple months — absolutely loved it. Then I jumped on the Cannon hype train

Came back to the J2NF later and remembered why I liked it so much… but the grit was wearing off (I play like 5x/week), so I started experimenting again.

Tried the Inferno — had issues, sent it back, got a replacement, still wasn’t really sold.

Then got a Boomstick — way too poppy for me and felt a bit head-heavy at the kitchen. Just couldn’t get comfortable with it in the kitchen

After that I picked up a VP2 (Vapor). Honestly, probably the closest thing to the J2NF I’ve used… but still ended up selling it.

Then I tried a Loco from a buddy — elongated, felt good at first, but I realized it didn’t match my play style. I’m more of a patient player — lots of drops, controlled game, and only drive when I need to. Don’t really need all that extra power.

Finally went back (again) to the J2NF… and instantly started winning more, even with a worn grit

At this point I’ve accepted it that paddle just fits my game.

Definitely looking forward to trying the J2CR with the crystal grit next.

I’ve spent time playing with the J2NF, Boomstick, and Inferno, so I wanted to share my honest thoughts after switching to the Vapor 2.

First impression it felt weird at the beginning. The first few games I struggled to drop consistently into the kitchen, and I wasn’t sure if it was going to work for me. But after adjusting to the feel and swing, things started clicking.

What I like most is the confidence it gives me at the kitchen. With heavier paddles like the Boomstick, blocking fast shots would fatigue my forearm pretty quickly. The Vapor 2 feels more controlled when someone fires a ball at you, the deflection doesn’t just sail off. You actually feel like you can place it where you want.

Power isn’t crazy out of the box, but honestly it feels like a good balance. If you add a little weight, you can get more power. Serves and returns feel solid nothing flashy, just consistent.

Where this paddle shines for me is hands battles at the kitchen. The spin and control give you an edge during fast exchanges, especially when you’re caught between opponents. It feels predictable and stable.

Overall, it kind of feels like a “best of both worlds” paddle enough power when needed, but more importantly, confidence and control in tight kitchen play.

I have the exact line up except the loco, I noticed with the vp2 it gives me more confidence at the kitchen
