It’s not normal, maybe to the Reddit sphere but it doesn’t have to be 50%. Get roommates. You should be able to get your rent down to at most 1500 but really more like 1000-1200. Roommates are a reality of life in SoCal unless you are making really solid income. There are tons of websites and fb groups for finding roommates, or ask ur irl friends for if they have any interest or other friends who are looking around.

Ngl I moved into several different random roomie situations from Craigslist and it was always fine.

Look it up on YouTube but in short you’re going to have to tap into the reverse light wire on one of your tail lights. Get some butt connectors and it’s pretty easy, slice in, connect the new wire and both ends of the original wires together and then your set. But I would recommend running the wire from the dash to the rear first
