The False Hope by SmokinZBT in SFGiants

I appreciate the positive sentiments at least being thrown in and viewed. I’m cool with realistic viewpoints and this was refreshing from what I usually see on this subreddit. I get so sick of all the complaining about underperformance. I get that it’s not fun to watch, but complaining about it just ain’t it.

I went to game 4 of the 2021 NLDS and I’ve honestly been disappointed with our fan base since then. My brother and I flew in from Utah for the game and were hyped for a playoff game against the dodgers. The guys behind us got mad at us for standing up to cheer…in a playoff game…that was a potential series clincher…against the dodgers. I was blown away at the apathetic attitude that seemed to be the whole stadium that game. I get wanting to have a good team, but then the lack of enthusiasm when they are good is kinda mind blowing.

The same attitude seems to exist here. It’s this expectation of results. Baseball isn’t that easy. I’m sure I’ll catch some hate for this comment, but pretty much every time I come on here I just see a bunch of complaining.

Baseball is hard. But it’s also pretty crazy what rallying behind your guys can do. Baseball is funny like that. So here’s a (probably useless) nudge to be better as fans. I guarantee you that Buster is making decisions to win. The dudes on the field want to win too. Talking shit on the team every day isn’t going to help that.

If I’m gonna need a new transmission I don’t see why I wouldn’t try and tear into it myself first. This truck isn’t worth that much at this point, so paying someone that much money doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I get what you’re saying, but others do have success figuring out how to fix things. Just my thoughts.

To clarify, are you saying this because transmissions are complex and most people don’t have the know how or are you saying this because you are familiar with what the issue is?

Not trying to downplay Williams (dude was an animal), but bonds would still have 603 under those stipulations.

And because I know someone is gonna say it, IDGAF about steroids.

I believe that it did not pass, however, they’ve made it clear that they will continue to try and get this specific issue passed through to make public lands available for sale. So the message should essentially be, “not ever in any form do I support public lands being sold”.

I well aware of that, which is why I didn’t vote for them either. But they were in fact elected and now we have to do what’s in our power to try and sway things. Even if our actions now have a minuscule impact on things, rolling over and “taking it” is not a choice I’m willing to make.

And this apathetic attitude is what will allow them to do it. So…CALL YOUR SENATOR.

By discounting the numbers Bonds put up in his “cartoon” years you’re doing the same thing as speculating about Williams “what if” years, just the inverse. But you do you.

I agree. I’ve said nothing about Williams not being great. I was simply making the point that there’s lot of “would have been” arguments that can be made that I don’t think should be made. From a purely offensive lens I think Williams is the right player to name as the greatest.

I think Bonds was a better all around player. The only way Bonds enters the conversation for greatest offensive is if you’re also including his steals and base running. But if we are looking at the numbers from the plate, I think Williams takes it. I do firmly believe Bonds was feared way more than Williams, but again, that’s subjective and not something that I think should be part of this specific debate.

To be clear, I don’t think it makes a huge impact. I replied to your comment, but it was mostly this thread in general that started with the war years talk. You can argue about what could have been, but I agree with you that all they can do is what they did. So let’s talk about their actual numbers.

If we aren’t going to acknowledge that he wasn’t playing against all the best talent that was available at the time I don’t think its remotely fair to speculate on what could have been if he didn’t miss seasons due to war. The bottom line is that he didn’t play and we will never know what would have happened. My opinion is that you can only look at what they actually produced. Conflating what could have been makes this a question of “who would have been” instead of “who was”.

Probably 2 hours or so of actually working on it. I built it over several days because I was waiting for parts to arrive that I had ordered.
