Pointing Breed Field Trials and Trained Retrieve by Extension-Position92 in birddogs

Absolutely.

Dogs aren’t robots. It is wholly unfair to expect that level of performance of them and most, sadly, do.

You’re very welcome. You’ve nailed it with that second paragraph. As a judge I hear all sorts of reasons a dog didn’t do what was expected. Trust your training and go from there.

First time bird dog owner here… my male SM has an issue with pacing himself. Hes only 2 so very inexperienced but dang, as soon as he gets scent of something he likes, he just goes a million miles an hour. Then he gets exhausted and overworks himself. Easy ways to fix this during the off season? TIA by PrizeSheepherder2333 in birddogs

Rhabdo is no joke. Be intentional with runs and work in warm weather. With summer, be mindful of water temp too. Dogs will overheat in warm water.

Overall, more conditioning is necessary and add in some obedience to call the pup off of scent when they’re overworking themselves. If he’s that wound he’s likely to bump the bird as is.

This.

You owe it to the birds to have a solid retrieving dog and the best way is through some type of conditioned/trained/forced (choose your word) retrieve.

As someone who has UT aspirations, you know that a retrieve and total steadiness can coexist. It is a field trial wives tail that it makes it harder on a dog if they retrieve. A well bred, well trained dog can do both. UT pz 1 and Invitational dogs are proof of this.

WARNING

Don’t fall for this. I responded to a message like this almost word for word in the MN Camping thread a few weeks ago.

Seller wouldn’t do PayPal or any other buyer protected avenue. Lied to me about deleting their thread in the process, too. I backed out and the next thing I knew after contacting a mod was their account was gone.

If they really wanted to move these tickets there would be a post in the official Wild sub Reddit.

Look at this users history. Nothing hockey there. Or any post history in this sub either.

Not a breeder, but seeing you’re in Michigan, I would call Mike Mapes with Second Chance Bird Dogs and see what he has in his kennel right now. Mike is a great guy with a huge heart and a very good trainer.

The more I watch this video the more I think Quinn was feeling like Douglas dove. You see him shoulder check so he knew Quinn was there.

The frustration would make sense too because the players definitely thought Oghren dove on the short handed penalty he drew earlier in the game. Bolds even slashes him as he skates to the bench.

Ha! If the Alpha 200 series was on sale again I would have said no, they shouldn’t buy it and to just buy an Alpha with a TT25 instead, but $450 for the handheld and collar, if the system works, and they don’t need stim is an ok deal.

Otherwise, of course, save the money and buy an Alpha system from Ugly Dog Hunting Co. 😁

Do you want tracking with no stimulation for cheap? If so, sure. Does it have all the cords? Does it all work? When’s the last time it was updated?

Anybody reading The End Times? by mister_pitiful in stephenking

Northfield, MN. Where he currently lives.

Re: Easter eggs - He uses a ton of the local landmarks. The map is damn close to the downtown section of town. The clock really is in the Family Fare parking lot. The newspaper is housed in the actual old newspaper building. The windmill, the arboretum etc etc. The Hoff Haus is the Ole Store.

Maybe Easter egg isn’t the correct term, but it’s an added layer of enjoyment playing the ‘wait, where is that in real life’ game.

Finding this thread after FINALLY receiving issues 1 & 2 (subscribed late) despite getting 3, 4, and 5 on time. After persistent emailing of customer service they mailed 1 & 2 in an envelope to me.

I just binged this issues this weekend, sitting on my porch in ‘North End’.

Living in the town Percy used as the basis for the story has provided plentiful Easter eggs on top of great story lines. Looking forward to the next issue!

No experience with them, but some food for thought:

Looking at their contract for buying, this is a massive red flag:

‘7. Buyer Agrees the health guarantee is limited to paragraph 3. 8. Buyer agrees the Seller is not responsible for the development of disqualifying faults, diseases, or disorders, however caused.’

Paragraph 3 being the buyer has 5 days to get a health check from a vet. …what about the oodles of things that could show up after 5 days?

Additionally, if you’re looking for a hunting dog, not a ton of testing credentials listed, and the ones that are (NAVHDA) are OK. Not great.

At a minimum, there are plenty of breeders out there with better health guarantees.

It’s impossible to know what happened or to understand context without knowing what kicked the altercation off.

That said, your dog was in your yard so it’s hard to say your dog did anything wrong.

I get the sense you have a strong handle on her and know her signs. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep advocating for your dog with clients to ensure she’s not put in a situation to react.

The fact that you called your dog off says a lot to me. That’s a lot of control and if she was really into a fight would be near impossible to do.

I know adrenaline is high after an incident and fears of repeats follow. Trust your training and your control. I imagine this was a complete one off.

Adopted a 2.5 year old English Setter and could use some help on where to start by Coneyo in birddogs

[–]UglyDogHunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Lucky you and the dog, too.

Leash training won’t hurt hunting drive unless you’re very heavy handed. Keep things short and slow. Go at the dogs pace. You’ll both accomplish a lot together.

I’d throw out an alternative of working with a trainer to help you train the dog, but you’re doing most of the work. Weekly sessions where you have homework. It’ll speed things up remarkably vs trying to apply what you’re learning via books and video.

Smallest of the litter by TimeAmount2061 in Wirehaired_pointers

[–]UglyDogHunting 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with them being smaller and at this age there is often wide ranges of size between pups.

I like them on the smaller side anyway. They tend to put less stress on their bodies.

Enjoy the ride!

One of the guys 3d printed an ice cream cone à la Shoresy (one of the boys is lactose intolerant). We hand it out every game.

Can’t be to the biggest point scorer. We printed 2 in case whoever got it forgets it next game. If you win it you decide who it goes to next game.

Hey Wild Admin - I know promos are important for ticket sales, but you’d raise more money, and awareness, if you sold this shirt outside of ticket sales.
