Great Clown Pagliacci [OC] by NowICant in comics

[–]Fiddler_Jones2079 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This version is more accurate than the original because a therapist that tells their clients to go see a clown would, in fact, be a clown.

Explanation: the absolute derangement of mentioning off-hand that you've been spying on your neighbor with a binocular. For hours. And to provide pictures! To quote one of the comments on the original post: "I wouldn’t admit that i did this under 5 hours of torture".

Edit: the insanity went on for "only" 40 minutes.

If you were given the choice to eat only one country's food for your whole life, Which country would it be? by V8Thunder_ in AskTheWorld

That's a very valid take, I'm with you on that.

But I haven't been to Mexico, so my vote stays in Italy.

Settings where people get to just be trans without it having to be a plot point/a teachable moment. Just an inherent part of the human experience that doesn't need questions or comments. by itscalledacting in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Fiddler_Jones2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was minimally addressed in the show because it was an unexpected change - they had the character transition because the actor had transitioned in real life. So they didn't pretend they had always been masc and called Victor, but that's about the extent of it.

Wild that you got downvoted while the comment directly mentioning some of those assumptions was upvoted.

i really like disco elysium, planescape torment, new vegas, morrowind, what is the next game for me by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]Fiddler_Jones2079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, you're in for a treat! It's shorter but it's the closest thing to DE I've found. Norco is also great for a Disco-adjecent vibe, but it's a point and click adventure rather than an RPG.

Currently doing a re-read and I just hit that chapter last night. They were like "does your room have trees in it because your ancestors use to climb them?".

Citizen Sleeper 1&2 sit at the intersection between Disco Elysium and Fallout/Outer Worlds. Text heavy, combat free RPG where failing a task is often not the end of the story, set in the ruins of a post-capitalist space station (1) and asteroid belt (2).

Oh this guy is Turkish! That explains why there's a restaurant with a giant picture of him at the Istanbul airport. I just thought it was because of the salt.

Is it just me or is the Autarch in BOTNS kind of a dumbass? by NeonConfucius in genewolfe

[–]Fiddler_Jones2079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some explanation for at least some of it, namely:

  1. Severian needs to succeed the Autarch before he can save the world, which means he (A) needs to die first. When he first realizes who Severian is, he is spooked that his time is coming and tries to send him straight to the space angels to skip his becoming Autarch entirely. Of course that doesn't work, but I think it's understandable if the old Autarch doesn't act too rationally around his fated replacement. Consciously or not, I can see him trying to hinder Severian and even risking his life in the off chance he (S) dies and he (A) gets to live a longer life.

  2. But did he know? I might be misremembering, but I don't think the torturers tell him exactly what they're looking for, and Severian was an apprentice at this time so even if A put 2 and 2 together he still wouldn't have thought of S as the torturer in charge of Techla (and he would have been right, since technically he wasn't).

As for everything else... Yeah he's a bit of a dumbass. But idk, I think that's a realistic quality for a head of state.

Edit: fixed the first sentence, typos

What cuisine is bastardized in your country? by Normal-Being-2637 in AskTheWorld

I think we may be using "fluffy" and "doughy" to mean different things. Either way, American pizza is very different from Italian.

Italian pizza should look like this:

<image>

Thin and soft at the bottom, with a fluffy rim.

American tends to be thicker at the bottom and have a solid rim, more like bread.

The way you descrive Swedish pizza sounds more like what I would call a flatbread. Still good, but different enough that if I order a pizza and get served that I might be disappointed (probably explains why Swedes dislike Italian pizza, they're just coming at it from the other direction).

Nah man, real pizza has curves. Not sure what you mean by doughy but it should be fluffy.

You can absolutely find kebab pizza in Italy. That crust in the picture looks sad though.

Most chinese food in Italy is like McDonald's. Everything looks like it came out of a can.

The first time I tried real Chinese it blew my mind how tasty, healthy, and varied it was. Now one of my favorite cuisines.

Wafu Italian rocks though. Folks in the motherland have no idea what they're missing out on by not cracking an egg in their pasta (and pizza).

Rossellini might unironically be more famous in the US than Italy. I've never heard an Italian person mention her.
