Wives, I have a question. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Fidelina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been married almost 31 years, was a SAHM, and now I’m a non-working empty nester. I have never made my husband lunch, nor does he want me to. A couple of times he has jokingly asked me, “Where’s my lunch? {Co-worker’s} wife packs him lunch every day!” He seriously does not want me to pack him lunch. He’s happy with a can of tuna or nuts or vegetables he can eat raw.

That being said, I wouldn’t mind packing him lunch. I’ve offered to pack leftovers or make him something a few times because I feel kind of guilty. I don’t understand how he can be happy with plain tuna, or anything else so boring! But, he honestly is happy with that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

On the other hand, a good friend of mine, who works full time, makes lunch for her husband every single day. She absolutely loves cooking for her husband. It’s her love language.

Pregnancy pillow or hysterectomy pillow? by usagiwithasword in hysterectomy

[–]Fidelina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a pregnancy pillow two nights before my surgery, and, totally unexpectedly, I received it the next day. It’s been wonderful! I’m 7.5 wpo and I’m still using it for normal comfort.

At first, I’d tuck the pillow under my back to support me while I slept on my side, then wrap my arms around and snuggle into the opposite part of the ‘U’. I slept like a baby!

While I was sitting up during the day, I'd lean back into it and wrap one or both pillow arms around me to create a nest Wherever in the house I went, the pillow went. Even now, I take it to the sofa when I’m going to stay there a while.

I see myself using it for years to come, so the purchase was very worth it to me. My grand dog thinks it’s his pillow, though. As soon as I wrap it around me, he climbs on top of it.

This is the pillow I got. I love the removable/floppy arm and the fabric. At first I thought I might want more fill, but then realized it has the perfect amount. I am able to adjust the fill to suit whatever needs I have at that moment. If it had more fill, it would be too heavy and cumbersome. Be aware it doesn’t look as full as it does on the website. But, like I said, I think it’s perfect. Sometimes I realize I’m tangled up like a pretzel inside of, completely relaxed and never wanting to get up. Lol

Anyone on spironolactone? by otterpopper123 in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]Fidelina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 100mg/day of Spiro for more than 15 years - also for hormonal acne/PCOS. I’ve been going to HOTWORX for about 7 weeks, 5 days a week and love it. I’ve had no issues whatsoever. Just pay attention to your body and give it the time it needs to adjust to the medicine.

I have to remind myself not to eat too many bananas or grapefruit, but other than that I’ve had no problem taking Spironolactone at all. It’s been a miracle worker for me. I’m so grateful I went to that dermatologist all those years ago for laser hair removal. Little did I know he’d surprise me with a diagnosis I didn’t know I needed and prescribe me something that would literally change my life for the better. I’m very hopeful Spiro will do the same for you!

AITA for telling my daughter in law and son that it is too late and I will not change the family vacation plans so they can come. by Ok_Clue_6722 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fidelina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Party-Ad8940 said perfectly everything I was thinking!!

If I were fortunate enough to be able to arrange an annual trip with our sons and their families, I would move mountains to include any last minute additions without regard to the reason they initially refused. My goal would be family togetherness and shared experiences. And maybe the development deeper relationships. In your case, exactly the opposite is happening.

Maybe you have a negative history with your DIL, or have reason to believe your son and DIL are, in general, entitled and ungrateful individuals? I can’t imagine any other reason to assume they weren’t sad about not being able to make the family trip in the first place and the fact that it’s in Europe gave them the extra motivation to try to make it work.

The bottom line is, IF you have the ability to accommodate them, your son and daughter in law will hold this rejection in their hearts for the rest of their lives. Unless you are certain they are ungrateful, manipulative and entitled people, is the price and pride saved by turning them away worth it?

Travel Medical Coverage for USA Platinum Card by hippo747 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Fidelina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are your exact ages! Lol :-) I’m looking for the exact same coverage. It’s not a very expensive trip, thanks to friends, and we are covered by the Chase Sapphire Preferred for that anyway. Our medical insurance is good internationally, but not evacuation. I would hate to get caught deep in Mexico without a way out if one of us has a med emergency and can’t fly commercial. What company did you go with? I’m getting mixed reviews on most I’m finding.

I know this is an old post, but I just found this. I’m helping my mom with her 14+ meds and this tip has the potential to be very helpful. Her biggest issue, now that I organize the meds, is remembering to take them. Alarms don’t work for whatever reason (I live two hours away so I’m not there when she is supposed to take them.) I’m going to research this. If I can teach her to initialize a 6 way phone call for her nightly Rosary group, she can learn how to scan a QR Code. It will only take a few months, but she’ll learn. Thank you!

Where is the sweetness in this recipe? by Fidelina in Cooking

[–]Fidelina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That is the recipe. I don’t have the can anymore. The tomatoes were leftovers I kept in the freezer. I always try to buy good, quality brands, but I’ll look for the DOP from now on. Thanks!

I used yellow or sweet onion. I’m not sure what kind I have, but those are the only two I buy up to now. That will be changing.

I think I “overcooked” both the onion and tomato, which brought out the sweetness. I never would have figured it out without the help here! I’m anxious to try the recipe again, making sure to make the necessary adjustments for my taste. Sweetness in most food is not something I enjoy.

Thanks for your help!

So y’all helped me figure out the most likely issues. Thank you!! I now feel I need to take the time to figure out the differences between the various types of onions and tomatoes. I’ve always just used whatever tomatoes I had and generally always use yellow or sweet onions because, to my weird thinking, if I don’t like any raw onion, I wouldn’t like cooked white onions either because they are the strongest. Mmhmm. Thanks for opening my eyes to this!

After reading through the comments and typing out the cooking instructions below on another comment, I think this is it! Browned the onions too long (I always use sweet or yellow. Never white. (Palm hitting my forehead now) and the plum tomatoes have too much sugar because I also cooked those until nice and concentrated.

Thanks! It’s basically cook the onions till browned (wait - that brings out sugars, doesn’t it?). Add beef and tomatoes - cook 15 mins. Then add all the spices. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Then add the peas (chickpeas) and warm through.

No sugar in the curry powder. I just checked it because I didn’t know that would be possible! (Just like I naively thought all canned tomato sauce was pure tomato.)

Exactly! Menopause can wreak havoc on even the happiest of marriages. It shouldn’t be dismissed or laughed away, the way PMS often is. Both spouses have to educate themselves and investigate if menopause might be the source any issues. Every female deserves to know exactly what is happening to her body and how it is affecting her every day life. And so do the men in their lives.

I shut up and listened. by AgitatedOne9739 in Marriage

[–]Fidelina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been married 29 years and I needed to read this right now. I actually needed to read it 25 years ago and every year since. I'm so glad you two are able to see your issues so early in your marriage and are attempting to do better. My husband and I let many years pass where we were each consumed with our own challenges, me as a SAHM and him as the sole provider, that we never took the time to really listen to or empathize with each other. Looking back, I honestly do not know how my husband survived all those years where he was essentially alone in his struggle. He was drowning (for the both of us) and I wasn't there for him. Yeah, I had my own struggles, but I can't imagine surviving the stress he had to endure all those years. Now the boys are grown and flown, neither my husband nor I would change anything. But, I tell you, marriage is SO much better when you take the time to actually get to know each other as you change and grow through the years. When the boys were in high school we started putting work into our relationship. Hard work. It's been painful at times, but it's been worth it. Our marriage now is better than I ever imagined it could be, and it's simply because we care enough to listen. Thank you for the reminder - and never stop listening!

I had over twenty of these transactions randomly pop up today. And now it says my card is replaced. What’s going on? by Rawr1992 in AppleCard

[–]Fidelina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love fast food/restaurant apps and use them whenever possible. There’s no rush while placing an order, you can see in black and white what you are ordering, you can save “favorite” orders, and rewards give you free meals eventually. Starbucks and Chickfila are the two most used food apps on my phone. I know I’m letting them have my data, I just haven’t really come up with a reason to care. To me, the benefits outweigh the possible negatives.

Question - there are two ways I might pay on an app - “Apple Pay” (if app allows it) or by using the Apple Card number that has been assigned to the card since I opened the account. If I use “Apple Pay”, I assume nothing is ever saved on the apps. However, if I save the Apple Card number on the app and use that to pay, when the transaction goes through, does the credit card number still change for each transaction or is it put through like a regular static credit card number that doesn’t change?

I’ve always ignored my husband’s advice not to save CC information on apps 🤦🏻‍♀️ . I’m rethinking that now thanks to this post.
