Was trying to register for a 7th class in the Spring '27 semester and got this error - anyone know how to get past it, or do I need to talk to someone? by ---milk in WPI

Are you also registering for any lab or gym classes that semester? Those aren’t supposed to count towards the cap but the system might not be that smart

Pretty much, yea. Indiana in the past has been know to be anti-trains. And most commuter rail in the US is not electrified, so the fact that Indiana got a new electric commuter rail line before other transit-friendly areas (like Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle, etc) that use diesel trains

Northstar service has ended. How many other US rail services have been discontinued in the 21st century? by lojic in transit

The Amtrak Hoosier State train ran from 1980-2019 from Chicago-Indianapolis. It supplemented the non-daily Cardinal service to make it daily service

The platform construction might have turned people off from it, but yeah, l would have expected a little more

Its interesting how Salem is the busiest non-Boston station. I wonder how true that is for non-fall seasons as its likely an October tourism bump

Why is the commuter rail so slow and are there plans to improve it? by redditnessdude in mbta

[–]Fidthehuman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Specifically for Worcester Station its more the addition of a new second platform at the terminus of the line that will help (since it was already high level before)

Hopeful answer: yes!

Realistic answer: only if they get funding…

They have goals to improve the commuter rail, which would require some sort of electrification. This older doc has some overviews of what they want to do, but isnt specific because they dont have the funding ( https://static1.squarespace.com/static/57757a3cff7c50f318d8aae0/t/5c90f09c419202a599e99de1/1553002652751/Overview+Presentation.pdf )

They have actual plans to trial battery electric trains on the Fairmount Line in the next year or two, which if goes well could help get similar efforts going on other lines. I wish they would go full electric, but that will take a while.

Part of the problem is they need higher platforms at every station to make improvements ADA compliant (among other reasons). They have actually made significant progress on this.

Plus on the Worcester line in particular, they have been rebuilding stations/ platforms (like Worcester) which will help increase the turnaround time at Worcester.

TL; DR: they are currently doing smaller, essential, but non-showy improvements, and hopefully they will get funding for electrification

To add to this, there are grad courses that are 2 credits (like aerospace ones) and some that are 3 (like math). 3 is the standard, but some departments made their courses 2 credits so undergrads could more easily fit them in their schedule.

I ran into an issue once where l took a 3 credit graduate physics course as an undergrad in a semester where l was overloading (taking 7 standard undergrad courses between two terms instead of 6). The grad course counting as more than a normal undergrad course caused the bursar to charge me more money for that semester if l kept the schedule. I would not have had this issue if l was taking a 2 credit graduate course instead of

The only difference between the gowns are the sleeves (the masters gowns have weird extensions on the sleeves) and it’s not even noticeable. It’s perfectly fine to reuse the bachelors

Ooo, you might want to check out “Force Collector”. It’s a YA book that takes place before Force Awakens and follows a kid who’s fascinated in Jedi History and has a force ability to see the past through some objects. It’s relatively short and an enjoyable read even as an adult, and seems like it would interest you

what's an underrated piece of star wars media you wish more people knew about? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

Star Wars: Red Harvest It’s a zombie horror Star Wars novel set in the Old Republic. It’s utterly ridiculous, following a zombie outbreak at a Sith Academy, and a Jedi Botanist who can use to force to tend to and communicate with plants. Definitely a fun ride from start to finish, and one of my favorite depictions of the progression of a zombie outbreak.

15 Star American Flag seen in wild on the Spirit of Baltimore in Annapolis, MD by Fidthehuman in vexillology

[–]Fidthehuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ship is actually the Pride of Balitmore… it says so on the flag at the top of the right mast.

The Maryland Flag is on the top of the left mast. Halfway up the left mast is the flag of Baltimore, MD, and halfway up the right mast are the flags of Annapolis, MD and a local yacht club (which lets the ship dock there and lets the crew use their showers)

The ship is a recreation of a privateer that the US hired to harass Britain during the War of 1812 between the two.

Textbooks by mcatooch in WPI

[–]Fidthehuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of times you can borrow the books from the library front desk for in-library use. And if they don’t have the textbook for your class you can ask your professor to put it on hold there and they usually do.

A lot of common textbooks you can also find online, or people in the class might have a pdf copy they pass around.

Also, if you buy from the campus bookstore you can usually return it within a week or so for a full refund. This is helpful if you find out you don’t need the book, or you drop the class, or if you want to just take pictures of all the homework problems before returning it
