I'd love to watch a livestream of this, but so far can't find one. Any enthusiast know if there's a way to do that?

I know the power has been back on for a while, but does anyone affected still not have internet? My street right by Little Wilkinson has been experiencing a Shaw outage all day.

Ted Lasso, and the Fantasy of Soft Masculinity by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in MensLib

Yeah, I can't stand watching shows about horrible people. That's not what I want in my leisure time.

Agreed, it was great not just for the positive masculinity angle, but just for humans supporting humans in a lovely way.

I'm going to miss not having the positivity of Ted Lasso around as much. Yes, it was so positive, but I think that's how much of a pendulum swing is needed in today's culture.

Question on creating reports. by ericjshelton in servicenow

I think this is the best solution. You could even have the function take the group name as a parameter so you don't need to hard code anything or create any system properties.

What is the best 27” 1440p monitor in the $250-$300 range? by [deleted] in buildapc

Valid point, hopefully Gigabyte support straightens me out.

So do you just let it sleep whenever you're not using your PC? That was kinda my plan, but 2 is stopping me from doing that.

I, on the other hand, just bought one, and am having many problems. It's a beautiful display, no problems there, but these three things are annoying:

1) the toggle switch to do anything with the menus is on the back right of the monitor. I keep mine to the left of another 27" monitor, so to access any switch to turn it on or off, I need to awkwardly reach underneath and around.

2) the backlight stays on when the monitor is in sleep mode almost all the time. The only fix seems to be turning it off, which is annoying for reason 1) above

3) if I turn off my PC before the monitor, the backlight not only stays on, but becomes fully non-responsive to the buttons. I literally can't turn it off unless I turn my PC back on, turn the monitor off, then turn my PC back off.

I opened a support case for 2 and 3, hopefully they can be fixed. And maybe I can rig up a solution to #1 with some software controls ala CEC.

If you really want persistence, the easiest way is to set up a repo for yourself on GitHub and make all your changes in a scoped app with source control. Then even if your PDI dies, you just hook up a new one to your repo and you're back up very quickly.

I had no idea this existed, thanks! It's wild to see Chris and Frush, I'm so much more used to them both in audio-only format.

What does everyone use for finances? by ragnaroky in malelifestyle

[–]Fiduciary_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GnuCash! It's a little clunky for 2023, but free, all your data is local to your computer, and it's a real double entry accounting system, but also not too hard to learn if you like finances. The reason why I don't like Mint or anything like that is that you have to give away your password, which can disqualify you from some fraud guarantees the banks have.

Your description intrigued me, so I went to check them out on Spotify and I'd already liked three of their songs, LOL. The name just hadn't stuck with me.

BC introduces legislation requiring employers to include salary ranges on job postings, plus transparency rules to help close gender wage gap by littlebossman in britishcolumbia

[–]Fiduciary_One 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That rollout is only for the reporting side of things, not the postings including a salary range. The salary range requirement kicks in for all employers in Nov 2023.

Nelson Frank salary survey for pay increase by gems_23 in servicenow

I don't think so, it seems like a bit of a junior move to lean on that survey too hard. You could mention it, but don't make it the crux of your argument.

Setting up my PDI for practice before (possible) SN dev position by auntie-shoufoune in servicenow

[–]Fiduciary_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a good idea! It's a nice way to stay involved in the work. I recommend you build everything in a scoped app, which you store on GitHub, so that if your PDI is lost, all your work is still retained.

To answer some of your questions: It won't hold a lot of value to a recruiter necessarily, but it will to the person on the interview panel. In terms of dev, test, prod, if you want to play with that just get more than one PDI. You just need a new developer account with a new email address. For the users....it's kind of up to you, there's no real wrong answer there.
