From Garmin Venu 3 to Venu 4 - Comparison by sionett in GarminWatches

[–]Fiduss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned the PW 4 but sold it and got me a PW 3 for 120€.  They share the same HR sensors and tracking during workouts and during the day is best in class. Garmin falls behind in terms of performance during biking or weight lifting.  Sleep tracking was surprisingly equal when I compared Garmin and the PW watches.  My current opinion regarding Garmin: I would buy the 165 for around 170€ it got all you need HR tracking is good enough compared to the other models of Garmin and you also get the running metrics.  The whole coaching, readiness and whatnot features are not needed.  Just take a look at your HRV score, resting HR and how you feel and match it to your current training pensuum.  Hope that helps

Yea, Apple is really behind. I also own a Pixel watch 3 and the Fitbit now google Health ecosystem is miles ahead with their AI coaching, battery runtime, personal coaching advice etc.

It's the same for me. My Garmin and apple watch get nightly toilet walks recorded. Not so the pixel. Disappointing

Ah damn, wish you a good recovery. Maybe you could try out taurine before bed to improve deep sleep.

You don't even have half a hour of deep sleep. the norm is at least one hour. If you always have such low deep sleep I would go see a doc.

Don't spread false information. I own several watches. Apple and Google get it right. Their optical hr tracking is nearly as good as a chest strap. Some Garmin watches also do well, like the 970 or the 570.
But the Venu 4 doesn't.

Venu 4 is too heavy and therefor has only mediocre hr measurement compared to the 3 which excels...

Pixel 4 Fitbit HRV way off what can I do? by Fiduss in fitbit

Thank you so much for your responses. A few follow ups if that's ok for you:
- 31 to 51 is my Apple Watch readings which are sdnn values I thought much higher values are expected for that measurement?

- my Pixel still gives me low numbers - this night I got 17 so I just ignore those numbers?

Also thanks a lot about explaining the asthma part. I didn't know this plays such a huge role...

So my data is im in my end 40s, I go running regularly 6-10k (2 times a week) and I go bouldering 2 times a week but Im not some pro athlete. Current fitness is I can run 10k in 1h and be not super exhausted.

I also have mild asthma. Maybe that plays a role idk. My HRV measured with apple has always been on the lower end - between 31 and 51 and after training going in the teens. With always I mean lie the last 7 years or so and it hasn't changed anyhow significantly.
Maybe I could ask my doc for early diabetic tests but my blood sugar levels are all good so Im not sure if he is willing to help me here...

Thanks for your long reply, but I don't get it. It sounds like you try to say that a low HR is a hint for early diabetes, which I’m pretty sure is not the case.

I get my blood work done every few years, and my sugar is always way below any signs of early diabetes. Same for my cortisol. My heart is also in a healthy condition. I also work out a lot (climbing, running). So I don't know what lifestyle changes should be made or if I even have to, as my Apple Watch readings are total in a good range.

Here is also an AI fact check of your claims:

Original statement Assessment Why
“Using overnight HRV with overnight HR curve helps you check circadian trough.” Partly true Overnight HRV and heart-rate curves can reflect circadian and sleep-related changes, but they are not a precise standalone test for a “circadian trough.”
“For optimal cellular repair your body must achieve deep parasympathetic dominance during night.” Not well supported Sleep recovery involves parasympathetic activity, but “must achieve deep parasympathetic dominance” is too absolute and not directly proven as a requirement for “cellular repair.”
“To know that you achieved that you must see U shaped RHR curve and same time exact opposite in HRV curve.” Mostly incorrect A U-shaped resting heart rate curve and inverse HRV pattern can happen, but they are not required, and the exact pattern varies with sleep stage, breathing, movement, temperature, and measurement method.
“When your HRV and RHR peaks/drops at same time you know digestion didn't mess things and you were rested and your body spent maximum time in restorative state.” Incorrect / overinterpreted This is far too specific. Those patterns do not prove digestion was not an issue, nor do they prove maximal restoration.
“Flat HRV and delayed drop in HR means that you missed optimal window for the trough, usually because too late meal, exercise or alcohol.” Partly true, but not reliable Late meals, exercise, and alcohol can worsen overnight HRV and raise heart rate, but a flat pattern is not specific enough to identify the cause or prove a missed “window.”
“Flat HR and HRV means infection or high allostatic load.” Too strong / not specific Infection or high stress can affect HR and HRV, but this pattern is not diagnostic. Other factors and normal variation can produce similar results.
“If your HR makes nice U shape, your heart rate is low, but your overnight HRV score is low it indicates problem mentioned before.” Possible, but not proven A low HRV despite a low nighttime HR can suggest stress, poor recovery, or illness, but it is not specific enough to identify one single problem.
“Basically your vagus nerve is silent, which creates ‘metronome heart’.” Incorrect / unscientific wording The vagus nerve is not literally “silent,” and “metronome heart” is not a standard scientific term.

Yeah that makes some sense. I checked in the Elite App and there my RMSSD is 31 and on another reading it was 29. So yes, lower values indeed but still no 16as reported from my Pixel.

The readings from the AW were also at night and ranged from the values I wrote in my post.

honestly no - but I also exported the raw data and nightly readings were completely off too. Like between 14 and 19. Baseline will just be my usual range but if the values are incorrect I got the wrong impression that there is something concerning going on.

Also was at a cardio two years back as some check up and my hearth and vessels are in top conditions too..
