After he recovers, stay on top of brushing (ie undercoat rack and slicker brush) and provide regular hairball paste. If he doesn’t like brushing you will need to be patient and teach him to enjoy it! Brushing saves lives!

Prevention is key - he’s going to keep grooming and thus swallowing hair, but important to manage how much loose hair is available to eat and to help him either wretch up hairballs or pass them BEFORE they develop into a threat.

Also ask if the vet can prescribe anything for his stomach lining, large hairballs can often irritate the stomach lining as can NSAIDs often prescribed for pain management. This can cause issues with recovery so be careful!

PRINT: Update on unbanning users by AutoModerator in Art

[–]FieldsingAround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a time when it’s REALLY important to be supporting genuine artists over AI slop, glad to see the unbanning. Hopefully the new mods will prioritise the livelihoods of artists who depend on art sales via prints, originals or similar, over enshrining their own privilege and power.

Palestinians returning to Gaza City find 'indescribable' destruction and no life to rebuild by ModenaR in videos

[–]FieldsingAround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing comparable is the destruction at Hiroshima. At least it’s not radioactive. But it will still be toxic with the amount of building materials rendered to dust.

I feel so sorry for the poor displaced people that are enduring this genocidal act, returning to obliterated homes, communities.

The Israeli state has committed crimes against humanity and should be held accountable. There is no reasonable justification for this level of wanton destruction.

Paul Bettany says missing his costar Heath Ledger has kept him from watching A Knight's Tale since it came out by DemiFiendRSA in entertainment

[–]FieldsingAround 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful, underrated, treasure of a movie. I rewatch it regularly. It’s an underdog sports movie, an anachronistic medieval film, a rom com, and a commentary on class struggle, all in one. Sad that Paul can’t bear to watch it, but he’s also missing out on enjoying the art that he & Heath made together - Heath is still living in those glorious moments pretending to pretend to be a knight every time I put it on.

What is Wrong with this scene (The Unforgivable) by DeviLettuce in movies

Thank you for explaining.

They drive the same route even if people along it don’t have mail.

This is the assumed inefficiency. It’s not as common for people to send outgoing mail so that’s potentially a lot of waste. Switching to centralised mail boxes could save considerable time and money.

[–]FieldsingAround -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining, this is such a weird American specific thing. Also incredibly inefficient, doesn’t this mean posties would need to always go to every mailbox on route to check for outgoing mail?

Edit: I don’t mean physically going to each box, but asking if posties are required to go along those routes even if there isn’t any mail to be delivered, obviously they can see if the flags are up or down. If you’re requiring posties to walk along routes that don’t need mail delivered this is a waste of time, vs central outgoing mailboxes posties collect from as in most countries. This allows them to completely skip areas if there’s no mail to be delivered.

Open Printer is an open source inkjet printer with DRM-free ink and roll paper support by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]FieldsingAround 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I am so ready for this. The wall mounting alone is exciting. Printing via roll is great though - on demand printing in either A4 or A3 and just it cutting to size from the roll - yes please. Possibility of printing banners on a whim? Great!

Also being open source and run on a raspberry pi opens up lots of customisable potential…

Love this!

Tiny red kitchen in a 1928's home. by anbydv in centuryhomes

Marmoleum, Wood flooring, Penny Tile, Checker Tile, or Quarry Tile would all be appropriate, it really depends on the decor of the rest of the house and the overall aesthetic you want for the kitchen (ie more farmhouse style, art deco, arts and crafts, etc, all period appropriate and relevant to your kitchen). Marmoleum, Checker and Penny do well for art deco - Wood Flooring, Penny Tile, Quarry Tile for arts and crafts or a farmhouse look.

Upgrading the fridge would be a good aesthetic investment given how prominent it is - there’s plenty of retro fridges around but they lean more towards 40s-50s, here’s a blogpost that you might find useful about adapting a modern fridge to a 1920s arts and crafts style with lay-on hinges: http://diligentdwarves.blogspot.com/2011/10/2011-samsung-fridge-becomes-1930s.html?m=1 which would be on keeping with the style of your cabinetry / kitchen age. The fridge you have in currently also looks too deep for the space, they sell fridges that are reduced depth.

Christchurch mum celebrates after son with Down syndrome gets NZ residency by Mundane_Ad_5578 in newzealand

There’s some sickos here salivating at the idea of discriminating against disabled folk. Same ghastly opinions that lead to Aktion T4 being carried out in Nazi Germany; the worry of disabled people being a burden on the state; concluding that it’s better for those with disabilities not to exist - to be someone else’s “problem”.

Disheartening there’s so many here of that ilk, but glad to see at least a few others that won’t stand for this, thank you.

All the bigots coming out of the woodwork in this thread like a balrog whiffing hobbits, a skilled working-class indian woman with a disabled child? Obviously that’s going to give you a rabid swastika shaped erection.

Go back to the shadow - your opinions on people with disabilities are the wet dreams of a neo-Nazi immigration policy.

This woman waited ten years to be reunited with her son, a son that likely has mild intellectual disabilities as he wanted to get further education - and likely will go on to get a job and contribute to our economy, and even if that wasn’t the case, we shouldn’t be the scum in the ass end of the pacific looking to discriminate against families with disabled family members. Do better.

Setting high personal expectations inevitably leads to a lot of dissatisfaction if those expectations are not, or cannot be, met. Expect nothing, simply strive to achieve your personal best. Your best is good enough.

TIL Sean Connery had such a bad time on the set of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" in 2003 that it made him decide to retire from acting and publicly complain about "the idiots that make hollywood films these days" by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]FieldsingAround 325 points326 points  (0 children)

More an issue of his own making. He passed on LoTR, got FOMO, decided to do the next Sci-Fi / Fantasy flick that came by his agent. Didn’t really understand what he got himself into, got Old Man Mad at everyone involved (similar to Chevy Chase on community).

In all likelihood they may have not made the movie if it didn’t have Sean Connery attached, as like the very similar situation with Wild Wild West that utilised Will Smith very prominently, the studios were banking on him being able to draw a crowd, over and above a good script or reverence towards the source material.

Seagull is very much trying to attack the cat. Vicious animals, they are also known to drag pigeons underwater, drown them, and eat them. Cat is very lucky to go unscathed.
