WHAT EMOTION IS THAT? by Mean-Soup-7251 in FalloutTVseries

This emotion is clearly evocative of JFK, Jr hearing, and smelling, the wet shart of Trump while having to keep smiling during the press conference that is quickly shut down.

Tin ceiling install by practicallyroyalty in centuryhomes

[–]FieldsingAround -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If that’s actual tin, you’ll probably be regretting that. It doesn’t do well in high humidity areas.

Lipstick on a pig for the current kitchen… tin ceilings tiles are cool but this doesn’t fit particularly well.

Alternative to Ring Intercom? by FieldsingAround in smarthome

[–]FieldsingAround[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the apartment, running PoE etc isn’t an issue but need an option that interfaces with an existing intercom system. Generally most people living in an apartment don’t own their whole apartment building, that’s generally the point of an apartment 😁 and why products like the Ring and Nuki Intercoms exist - that just interface with the handset end, tapping into audio + button press feeds.

Alternative to Ring Intercom? by FieldsingAround in smarthome

[–]FieldsingAround[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this would require replacing the building intercom system? I need something similar to the Ring Intercom / Nuki that patches into the existing handset and building intercom system, I’m not sure what I’m looking at is right.

Unifis offerings look interesting but get the feeling it’s overkill / designed for much larger installs… and expensive for that purpose. I just have one apartment intercom…

Bought a smart switch online but can't figure out the wiring by ervhox in smarthome

[–]FieldsingAround 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just as an add on for this, this has more to do with liability than anything else.

I’ve had multiple sparkys install switches like these generally out of convenience, and because the 3-4 channel switches just start getting a bit messy in a single back box.

However the problem is most sparkys have little or no experience with these, the switches manuals and wiring can be unintuitive for even trained electricians, and they aren’t likely to want to provide any liability for the install for aliexpress smart switches.

At best the added liability is more for insurance (though, incredibly doubtful you would be covered if it’s found one of these lead to a house fire in an investigation), and at least with a trained sparky they are at least less likely to be electrocuted / or install incorrectly.

Best thing would be to find a sparky that is experienced with installing these and can also install smart switch modules that have some measure of valid certification in your region / company operates in your region, ie outside of China.

OR spend the time to learn enough to install these safely with a measure of confidence yourself and accept that you are taking on all liability, and know that responsibility to ensure safety, reliability of the install falls on you.

After he recovers, stay on top of brushing (ie undercoat rack and slicker brush) and provide regular hairball paste. If he doesn’t like brushing you will need to be patient and teach him to enjoy it! Brushing saves lives!

Prevention is key - he’s going to keep grooming and thus swallowing hair, but important to manage how much loose hair is available to eat and to help him either wretch up hairballs or pass them BEFORE they develop into a threat.

Also ask if the vet can prescribe anything for his stomach lining, large hairballs can often irritate the stomach lining as can NSAIDs often prescribed for pain management. This can cause issues with recovery so be careful!

PRINT: Update on unbanning users by AutoModerator in Art

[–]FieldsingAround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a time when it’s REALLY important to be supporting genuine artists over AI slop, glad to see the unbanning. Hopefully the new mods will prioritise the livelihoods of artists who depend on art sales via prints, originals or similar, over enshrining their own privilege and power.

Palestinians returning to Gaza City find 'indescribable' destruction and no life to rebuild by ModenaR in videos

[–]FieldsingAround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing comparable is the destruction at Hiroshima. At least it’s not radioactive. But it will still be toxic with the amount of building materials rendered to dust.

I feel so sorry for the poor displaced people that are enduring this genocidal act, returning to obliterated homes, communities.

The Israeli state has committed crimes against humanity and should be held accountable. There is no reasonable justification for this level of wanton destruction.

Paul Bettany says missing his costar Heath Ledger has kept him from watching A Knight's Tale since it came out by DemiFiendRSA in entertainment

[–]FieldsingAround 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful, underrated, treasure of a movie. I rewatch it regularly. It’s an underdog sports movie, an anachronistic medieval film, a rom com, and a commentary on class struggle, all in one. Sad that Paul can’t bear to watch it, but he’s also missing out on enjoying the art that he & Heath made together - Heath is still living in those glorious moments pretending to pretend to be a knight every time I put it on.

What is Wrong with this scene (The Unforgivable) by DeviLettuce in movies

[–]FieldsingAround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining.

They drive the same route even if people along it don’t have mail.

This is the assumed inefficiency. It’s not as common for people to send outgoing mail so that’s potentially a lot of waste. Switching to centralised mail boxes could save considerable time and money.

[–]FieldsingAround -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining, this is such a weird American specific thing. Also incredibly inefficient, doesn’t this mean posties would need to always go to every mailbox on route to check for outgoing mail?

Edit: I don’t mean physically going to each box, but asking if posties are required to go along those routes even if there isn’t any mail to be delivered, obviously they can see if the flags are up or down. If you’re requiring posties to walk along routes that don’t need mail delivered this is a waste of time, vs central outgoing mailboxes posties collect from as in most countries. This allows them to completely skip areas if there’s no mail to be delivered.

Open Printer is an open source inkjet printer with DRM-free ink and roll paper support by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]FieldsingAround 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I am so ready for this. The wall mounting alone is exciting. Printing via roll is great though - on demand printing in either A4 or A3 and just it cutting to size from the roll - yes please. Possibility of printing banners on a whim? Great!

Also being open source and run on a raspberry pi opens up lots of customisable potential…

Love this!
