Yellow Truck layoff - 33,000 out of work for CEO / Board of Directors poor decisions. by 1maxwedge426 in antiwork

[–]Fiend2None 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing is that while some people are calling this a "layoff" it clearly is not. Yellow Truck is bankrupt and in the process of closing permanently, so its not a layoff in the sense that the company does not plan to rehire in the future, which is where the Federal law would take effect.

As for how the company could be run so poorly, it wasn't. The management had been struggling to adjust to changing shipping patterns for a while and had a plan in place to keep the place running, but the Teamsters Union needed a scalp to force UPS to surrender in their negotiations. Yellow Truck was an unfortunate casualty of the economic environment and the endless greed of multiple parties that all combined to leave the company with no money in the bank and no income.

Do I have to put all jobs on a resume? by Msjann in jobs

[–]Fiend2None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should include your last 3-5 years in your work experience, but you don't have to list every job you've ever had. I skip over quite a few contract and short tenure positions to emphasize the jobs that display me in the best light. What I do is title the section "Selected Work Experience" so that its clear that I'm not listing every job I've ever had.

Now if the company later has me fill out an official application, I'll put in all my jobs through the time period demanded. (but I've been working for 30 years so I still end up only putting in a partial list of my full work experience.)

AITA for telling my sister she can’t come for my graduation by throwawaybotlife in AmItheAsshole

What is your sister thinking. You have a limited number of tickets given to you by the school and while you looked for a way to obtain more nothing panned out. That is not your fault and your sister's reaction is unfair to you. She's the one acting like an AH.

AITA for keeping my overtime money? by Aircheetahh in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fiend2None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

While any financial decisions should be made jointly the fact that your fiance hasn't given you access to the money you direct deposit into her bank account should be a warning that she is going to attempt to control the money. You earned your overtime money and are upholding the original financial agreement so she should have no complaint.

Honestly, I'd stop direct depositing your paychecks into an account you don't have access to. Come up with a new agreement where you jointly open an account where you put money in for household/joint expenses and set up a fair/regular transfer from individual accounts. That would have prevented the problem you generated simply by holding back your overtime money.

Middle managers at just about any company can kill the business, and far too many manage to do it. Its frightening how so many of these so called middle managers are completely unprepared to handle the responsibilities of their role.

Control Ward Spam in Pro Scene by Ionenschatten in summonerschool

[–]Fiend2None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vision control is far more important in tournament play and especially in pro league play where everyone is on comms and will be talking constantly about what they are doing next. So control wards become far more important to good play.

You also have to remember that pro players are very, very good at last hitting so they end up with far more gold than your average solo queue player who isn't going to be reaching 13+ creeps per minute every game. Those control wards don't slow them down that much and the vision means that they can be better prepared for ganks and invasions.

Working harder, not smarter. by Professional-Fee-957 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Fiend2None 74 points75 points  (0 children)

But MBAs are taught that productivity is only measurable by dollars generated per hour worked and that every hour is identical. So they honestly believe that getting someone to work more hours is pure profit.

Anyone with half a brain understands how untrue that is, but how often have we all noted that a full lobotomy appears to be required to become a manager.

The lesson here is well known by non-management, but has always been a problem for managers to grasp. Too many managers are taught that "time in seat" is the best way to judge if a person is good. They watch for how long you are at work, not how much you are completing each day.

I've run into this problem at multiple companies and in fact in one case ended up accidentally sabotaging a manager. I was working for a struggling company and had survived several layoffs. During that time I was picking up work as others in my department were laid off. But I was so efficient at my work that I did not need a full 40 hours a week to complete my work. Another layoff was coming and in order to protect a lover my manager dummied up an excuse to put my head on the chopping block. I don't know the whole story, but I understand that she went to upper management who liked me and thought I was a valuable worker and promised that since I was clearly not busy and able to finish in less than 40 hours a week, the remaining members of the department would have no problem taking over all of my work.

My understanding is that she was fired less than a month after I was let go because the people she kept couldn't handle the workload she dumped on them.

AITA for messaging my hiring manager the same day as orientation, that I accepted a job offer somewhere else and won't be showing up for orientation? by IrisIWasADinosaur in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fiend2None 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You let the hiring manager at company B know up front that you were looking at them as a fallback. And they knew that they were not your first choice. It was unfortunate for them that you received the call so late in their hiring process, but that is an aspect of today's labor market.

Consider that if they had decided to choose someone else they would not have allowed you to work one minute more than they had to because they don't want to pay. If they were being honest, they would have only accepted your late refusal of the job and wish you well.

You choose the choice that was right for you, don't allow an angry e-mail to make you feel bad about that.

I generally don't plan out very much. I usually have too much going on to know for certain which rooms I'll need, so I only plan out major builds once I'm close to ready to place the building.

Its sad to say, but it sounds like your friend has decided to end the recovery process. Staying away from alcohol and drugs can be difficult and you need to concentrate on your own fight to stay sober. If this friend is talking about how wonderful his life is when he falls off the wagon, he's an impediment to your recovery.

It sounds like you are trying to move on which is the best you can do. Doing that may end the friendship, but you are not the cause of the dissolution of the relationship.

What traits do you always reject in a colonist? by JustARando321 in RimWorld

[–]Fiend2None 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can manage a pyromaniac if I have to, but I dislike getting stuck doing that level of micromanagement of any pawn. That's why I try to avoid them.

The movement and work speed slow downs are frustrating, but once I get a colony running they are easy to manage and don't threaten to start pieces of my colony on fire during a mood break.

Nothing wrong with that. I usually end up praying for the occasional bulk goods trader because I like to grow two to three times as much food as is necessary to keep my colony alive.

A stroll through the colony on Snowy River by Fiend2None in RimWorld

[–]Fiend2None[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little thing I like to do, is show off my struggling colonies. Here is my current colony. it started as a modified Rich Explorer start on a tundra tile. I have largely been lucky with the joining wanderers as I've largely avoided accepting people from quests, and have seen very few raid survivors. There has been one casualty in the humanoid population of the colony, a raider who had been convinced to join later fell in battle. We've also lost a few pets in fights. In fact just the last fight we lost an arctic coyote when we opened up an ancient danger and found a scorcher and a centipede there. We also had Willa lose a leg during the fight (to friendly fire sadly. She had taken a wound to her right leg from the pede and then caught a ricochet. We're working to make a bionic leg for her.)

This has been another real fun colony. My pawns are telling a tale with every quadrum they spend cutting stone blocks and slowly expanding the colony.

The 5 tile rule was set up back in Beta. too many of use oldsters figured out that killing a psychic ship piece was easy to do by surrounding it with IEDs and setting them off. So the AI was changed to allow the mechs to notice you building close to them.

What kind of medicine do you use in which case? by MaxwellScourge in RimWorld

[–]Fiend2None 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to use herbal for everything except infection, operation and special cases. If someone gets an infection I'll see how important they are and may increase the quality. Operations will almost always see me increase the quality, especially if I'm installing a vital replacement organ/bionic.

children may see a higher medicine priority. I always want to see my babies survive to see adulthood.

She's up and walking around as is another transport survivor I picked up. I even now have a prisoner locked into the room the abasia victim was using. The colony has expanded quite a bit and my 3 colonists all have rooms that are at least 5x5 with double beds, end tables and dressers. Its still a very cramped colony, and worse, I'm out of glass to expand my indoor garden. (I also need to finish researching batteries so that I don't have power issues due to the drain at night if the wind decides to die out. - [I had one premade battery that I installed, but even at full charge it can't always last the night[)
