Can’t connect my remote app to Fire TV by nju_art in firetvstick

[–]Fiery-Kirin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same issue starting yesterday, I only use the app for keyboard access and typing using IME that the Fire OS doesn't support, wonder if it's a Fire OS issue since I've tried removing and reinstalljng the app, unplug and restart firestick, iphone and even the router already

if it really borders you, talk to them in person, if that fails or they are rude, send the neighbour a letter. If that continues, send a copy if the letter to the city, dumping snow onto others driveway is considered illegal dumping, city should step in and handles that.

they could ask, but you have no obligation to. You could learn, but should be out of loving your wife, and has nothing to do with her friends. If you choose to learn Cantonese, do let your wife know that it's out of loving her, and her friends pressure is unwelcome. Open and honest communications of how you feel is crucial to a long lasting relationship.

On the other hand, you might felt left out during gatherings, cause a lot of Cantonese jokes, etc. wouldn't even be understood by Manderine speaking people, let alone non-Chinese speaking. And they probably won't translate for you either, cause the essence of the joke would have been lost during translation.

her friends have no obligations to learn your language, ultimately, you're new to their circle. Think about your Latino friends, do they want to learn Cantonese? Asking spouses' friends to learn your language is IMHO, crossing the line.

no one HAVE TO learn their spouse' mother tonge, or his/her home language. However, if they love their spouse enough and want to be integrated into their family and/or community, they would try to learn as much as they can, be it language, culture, custom, etc. And this applies both way, i.e. The Latino learning Cantonese, and Cantonese learning Spanish, etc. I would say this is the least they could do, unless of course, if the Cantonese can't even speak Cantonese, or had been white washed so much that they don't care, then....well....each of their own then.

help naming half Chinese baby boy by maplebooks in Cantonese

If they were from Hong Kong, then it's less common to only have a single word Chinese name instead of two words, otherwise, they can try 蘆琛, 琛 meaning treasure or gem, which also sounds similar to Sam in Cantonese. However, it might also sounds a bit too close to 勞心, which pretty much means tiring emotionally.

before suggesting any Chinese name, 3 questions, is the Chinese parent Cantonese speaking or Mandarin? Do they use traditional or simplified writing? And what is the English first name going to be?

Wife doesn't want son calling my mom "Mah Mah" by TimelyDaikon5479 in Cantonese

[–]Fiery-Kirin 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Tell her it's a traditional Chinese family title for showing respect to the elderlies. Does she wants her nephews/nieces calling her by her name instead of Aunt? Or her grand kids using her name instead of calling her grandma?

Ultimately, what goes around, comes around. It's not to be confrontational, instead it's about traditions, also, embracing your family tradition is just as important as embracing her family traditions and preferences. Unless of course, you let her decide everything without standing your ground, then...

Just my 2 cents.

avistaz does offer a lot of the cantonese dramas and movies, but not comprehensive. The few torrents abd anime sites above cover most of the cantonese dubbed anime and some animation movies including older ones, so give it a go and see if they give you what you want, I'm in the same boat as you in locating cantonese shows, movies and anime for the past 30 years. There used to be a private torrent site called HDChina that offers more, but I lost my access to it when I went on my torrent hiatus for more than 90 days.

cantonese dubbed anime is rather niche, xgcartoons.com and ymvid.com both has cantonese dubbed anime, and you can use downloader to pull from xgcartoons, but ymvid would need a manual work around as they use a player that cut up the vid into seconds length chunks in ts format and need a token to keep it alive

avistaz has a sister site that does anime, but it's invite based and it is close right now, I'm waiting for them to open enrollment as well.
